E-commerce duplicate URLS
-
Hi
I just realized that my e-commerce products do not have any difference except the SKUS, PRICE and THE PRODUCT name. Apart from each page has the same sidebar and a piece of content ( same ) under each product pages. And this is the reason why i am getting too many duplicate urls warning through Moz analytics.
I do not have any other contents to add for each product because of the nature of the product. Only the price, product name and the SKUs will be different and rest will all be same for each products.
How can i fix this ?
Thanks

Hi Ivor
Thank you very much for your reply.
- Each product have their own title tags and h1 tags ( product name )
- The content is on each product page and it is the same for all the products. So, i think this is something i need to take care of.
-
Thank you very much for . But customer reviews are not going to work because each product is a unique product and only a single customer can purchase a product. So each product is a unique piece.
Also we do not have any attributes of the products. The only thing that is unique is the product name and the SKUs and price.

Hi,
You can definitely do as ivordg suggests and use the product name to create unique title and H1 tags and meta descriptions to get you started. Another strategy would be to combine all of the products in to one page but this depends on the product and what's unique about them. If only the colour and size change for example, this could the way to go. You can then use drop downs to let users select the product they want and add a canonical tag to the page. This is something Zappos.com does very well - http://www.zappos.com/cole-haan-ridley-blucher-sneaker
If that's not possible, a better long-term strategy would be to make each page truly unique which would be a great help to you. The best way to do this? Product reviews. This will not only help your SEO but also increase customer engagement and allow customers to get a better overview of your products and likely increase conversion rates. Econsultancy wrote a really good piece on the benefits of product reviews which would be worth your time reading.
There's also an Econsultancy piece here on how to attract product reviews from your customers.
Hope that helps but let us know how you get on or if you need more help.

Hi,
I run a webshop as well with the same issues (sanidepot.be). All my products are different in the sense that they have unique product names, sku's and prices - just like yours.
- I use the names of the products as my title tags and H1 tags, avoiding duplicate title errors.
- ...yet placing the same text content under each product doesn't seem right. Is it a footer/banner? Or really the same text added on each product page? I'd remove that text or when it's a seperate html, highlight it in your robots.txt to dissallow that page somehow. If you could, i'd disactivate it, avoiding tons of duplicate content.
- Then the result would be that your product pages have a unique character, even through they don't contain a lot of text. But the real juice for your ranking should come from your home page and all the category/subcategory pages and all landing pages that present your (core) products.
Hope this helps a bit.

Main menu duplication
I am working on a site that has just gone through a migration to Shopify at the very same time as Google did an update in October. So problems from day 1. All main menu categories have subsequently over the past 6 weeks fallen off a cliff. All aspects of the site have been reviewed in terms of technical, link profile and on-page, with the site in better shape than several ranking competitors. One issue that i'd like some feedback on is the main menu which has 4 iterations in the source. desktop desktop (sticky) mobile mobile (sticky - appears as a second desktop sticky but I assume for mobile) These items that are "duplicated" menus are the top level menu items only. The rest of the nested menu items are included within the last mobile menu option. So desktop menu in source doesn't include any of the sub-menu items, the mobile version carries all these there are 4 versions of the top level main menu items in source Should I be concerned? Considering we have significant issues should this be cleaned up?

Json LD e-commerce site with Excellent implementation of all markup features
Hi all I am looking for some really good clear examples of sites that have excellent JSON LD markup. Not just the basics but packed to the teeth with markup for every element. I am particularly interested in e-commerce applications as I am re skinning our e-commerce platform written from scratch in house. It is far from perfect, not mobile friendly and well a bit backward but links into everything we have in a seamless way all the way to our manufacturing plant. Take a look have a little laugh and then take pity 🙂 https://www.spurshelving.co.uk/shop/shop.aspx Thanks Pete

2 Duplicate E-commerce sites Risk vs Reward
Hi guys I have a duplicate content question I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on? I work for a small company in the UK and in our niche we have a huge product range and an excellent website providing the customer with a very good experience. We’re also backed up by a bespoke warehouse/logistic management system further enhancing the quality of our product. We get most traffic through PPC and are not one of the biggest brands in the industry and have to fight for marketshare. Recently we were approached by another company in our industry that have built up a huge and engaged audience over decades but can’t logistically tap into their following to sell the products so they have suggested a partnership. They are huge fans of what we do and basically want a copy of our site to be rebranded and hosted on a subdomain of their website and we would then pay them a commission of all the sales the new site received. So 2 identical sites with different branding would exist. Based on tests they have carried out we could potentially double our sales in weeks and the potential is huge so we are excited about the possibility. But…..how would we handle the duplicate content, would we be penalised? Would just one of the sites be penalised? Or if sales increase as much as we think they might, would it be worth a penalty as our current rankings aren’t great? Any advice would be great. Cheers Richard

Replace dynamic paramenter URLs with static Landing Page URL - faceted navigation
Hi there, got a quick question regarding faceted navigation. If a specific filter (facet) seems to be quite popular for visitors. Does it make sense to replace a dynamic URL e.x http://www.domain.com/pants.html?a_type=239 by a static, more SEO friendly URL e.x http://www.domain.com/pants/levis-pants.html by creating a proper landing page for it. I know, that it is nearly impossible to replace all variations of this parameter URLs by static ones but does it generally make sense to do this for the most popular facets choose by visitors. Or does this cause any issues? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance

Duplicate Content on Press Release?
Hi, We recently held a charity night in store. And had a few local celebs turn up etc... We created a press release to send out to various media outlets, within the press release were hyperlinks to our site and links on certain keywords to specific brands on our site. My question is, should we be sending a different press release to each outlet to stop the duplicate content thing, or is sending the same release out to everyone ok? We will be sending approx 20 of these out, some going online and some not. So far had one local paper website, a massive football website and a local magazine site. All pretty much same content and a few pics. Any help, hints or tips on how to go about this if I am going to be sending out to a load of other sites/blogs? Cheers
