Do-follow or no follow?
-
What kind of link i should give when i mention someone in a blog, If they already have a better DA then my site.
-
Writing a blog post and mentioning another site as a useful resource is the very definition of when you should leave a link as do-follow. Makes no difference what the DA of the other site may be.
There are really only two main reasons to no-follow a link:
- You are linking to untrusted content/you didn't create the link yourself - user-generated comments in a blog are a good example of this, or if you're linking to a questionable website to use it as an example of a bad practice.
- Links to websites with which you have a commercial relationship - e.g. links that have been paid for, or are part of a business arrangement with the other site.
The third reason is if you are linking to pages that aren't useful for a general reader, like registration pages, though this aspect often gets overused.
Hope that helps?

Hi Joginder,
If you want to mention someone in a blog you should give nofollow there is no problem and link juice also want to pass. I presume the site is related to your blog whom you want to link.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi there
Never fear a nofollow link, especially if it's on a site that is relevant to your industry / content.
How do you know if a link is quality? Ask yourself the following...
-
Does this link help my website?
-
Is this link relevant to my website?
-
Would I trust this site (that's linking to me) if I landed on it?
-
Is the website or content in which I am being linked from topically relevant to my website?
-
If you check metrics - does anything about the metrics (domain authority, page authority,Majestic, SEMRush traffic/ranking data, etc) make me feel uneasy?
-
Are the links from directory templates? (example)
-
Inspect URLs with blatant spam words
-
Free
-
Porn
-
XXX
-
Submit
-
Directory
-
Paid
-
Links
-
URL
-
Sex
-
etc.
-
Check for multiple domains and URLs on the same IPs
-
This can usually show link farms or spam
If the link doesn't pass the common sense sniff test, it's probably not meant to be.
But never discount a link because it's nofollow. It could be a great opportunity!
Hope this helps - good luck!

If you are writing a blog post for your product / services etc on an external site then this can be viewed as advertising in Googles eyes. For this type of self exposure I would suggest no-follows for any links pointing back to yourself.
If you are writing a post for your own blog and would like to mention something be it a product or person that is relevant to the blog topic etc then there is no harm in leaving the link as a follow version. If the person / site is a direct competitor in a similar market then leaving a follow may boost their rankings, but that is your call.
It all depends on the promotional aspect and location of the blog post for me. Hope this helps.

Rel=canonical vs noindex/follow - tabs with individual URLs
Hi everyone I've got a situation that I haven't seen in quite this way before. I would like some advice on whether I should be rel=canonicalzing of noindexing/following a range of pages on a clients website. I've just started working on a website that creates individual URLs for tabs within each page which has resulted in several URLs being created for each listing: Example URLs: hotel-downtown-calgary hotel-downtown-calgary/gallery?tab hotel-downtown-calgary?tab hotel-downtown-calgary/map?tab hotel-downtown-calgary/facilities?tab hotel-downtown-calgary/reviews?tab hotel-downtown-calgary/in-the-area?tab Google has indexed over 1500 pages with the "?tab" parameter (there are 4380 page indexed for the site in total), and also seems to be indexing some of these pages without the "?tab" parameter i.e. ("hotel-downtown-calgary/reviews" instead of "hotel-downtown-calgary/reviews?tab") so the amount of potential duplication could be more. These tabbed pages are getting minimal traffic from organic search, so I've got no issues with taking them out of the index - the question is how. There are the issues I see: Each tab has the same title as the other tabs for each location, so lots of title duplication. Each individual tab doesn't have much content (although the content each tab has is unique). I would usually expect the tabs to be distinguished by the parameters only, not have unique URLs - if that was the case we wouldn't have a duplication issue. So the question is: rel=canonical or noindex/follow? I can see benefits of both. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Using Canonical & INDEX, FOLLOW meta tag
I am sort of new to this, and working with an overseas development team on an eCommerce site. I am curious if the Canonical tag will supersede the tag, or if it is best to remove this tag entirely for duplicate product pages?

Should links on a family bar be no follows?
I have a network of sites that we use a family bar for to get the user to where they want to go but as I am looking at my link profile, i keep on seeing these links everywhere. (DUH, of course) Question is, should these links be no follow? Could these links hurt me?

Hi . I have a question regarding a surge in 302 temporary direct errors following reactivation of my site reviews.
Hi. i submitted the following question to the support team at volusion regarding a large number of 302 temporary redirects on the SEOMOZ crawl of following the reactivation of product reviews on my website. Here is the question and their response. Any opinions. Thanks TRANSCRIPT: Hi Howard, Looking at the link you have referenced, this page is unable to be accessed unless you are logged into your site, so SEO isn't applicable for the page. We would not be able to change the 302 redirect for this page. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. Thanks,

Here for you 24x7x365 Volusion Support Check out our online support: http://support.volusion.com | 4 days ago (102hrs ago) [8/19/2012 10:06:00 AM] by Customer || Hi . I had a report of 302 temporary redirects when SEO moz did a simulated site crawl. This is an example of the address of one of the many 302 temporary redirect errors which I think consume link juice or have some type of negative effect on SEO. http://www.mrgrabbar.com/reviewhelpful.asp?ProductCode=GT100&ID=562&yes=yes Since it is a live link I cannot seem to redirect it with a 301 redirect in the redirect manager. Is there anything I can do to handle these temporary redirects. They only are appearing now since I reactivated my reviews and I am concerned about the SEO effect that this may soon have.

Page Shaping - No Follow Links
It's my understanding that adding a nofollow tag to pages that aren't of significance to users can help with page shaping and directing google to the most important links on my home page. I have 4 links on my home page that I'm considering adding a nofollow tag to: Privacy Policy, Legal Policy, Anti-Trust Policy, and Help-Desk Because these links are in the footer on every page I think they're probably sucking up some useful link juice. It's doubtful that anyone would actually search for our privacy policy or legal policy to find our site. I'd rather the juice to spread to other pages of use. What do you guys recommend?

Follow up on "Canonical Tag Placement - Every Page?"
But if it is like Pete said, I don't understand why e.g. SEO Moz has a Canonical Tag on this Page http://www.seomoz.org/blog/canonical-url-tag-the-most-important-advancement-in-seo-practices-since-sitemaps Which leads to the exact same page!? What is the benefit of doing so? Regards

Should I show and allow following of deep navigation links?
Hello mozzers, I am currently designing an e-commerce system for various companies, my pilot being www.containerpadlocks.co.uk. I you look on the left in the navigation, you will see only the top level categories are visible (and in the html). Sub categories are only shown if viewing a parent category, or a product in that category/subcategory. My question would be, should I be listing all my subcategories in that navigation (hidden from the user) to allow Google to index my pages easily, and will this promote more PageRank and internal links for my site, or will this just dilute my page juice? Many Thanks,
