With the New Panda update supposedly only weeks away, is it wise to No Index my products I have not had time to rewrite the product descriptions for ?
-
Hi Mozzers,
I read on SEJ yesterday than apparently the Panda update was due in the 2 - 4 weeks.
I still have a large of my products which I have not got around to rewriting unique product descriptions for. I know these product descriptions are duplicated on other affiliate sites so do it think it in light of the panda update coming , would it wise to put a NO INDEX Meta tag on these product pages until I get around to rewriting the descriptions. That way, I may not hit my Panda and it will buy me a bit more time.
Just an idea , but thought I'd run it by.
thanks
Pete

Yes that's fine, Pagerank/juice will still flow and Google will act as normal on all those child pages.
In an ideal situation you want to have good content on the pages that link to the weaker ones
Home->Landing Page->Weaker page->Child Page
Try to naturally include the most important words on the Landing Page as it will have the most power and you will be able to direct your customers through to the weaker pages.

Many thanks Gary,
Some interesting points ideas here. I didn't realize google would have taken snap shot in advance so yes I could well already missed the boat.
I like the idea of the no index on weaker pages so If I was do that but "Follow" on these weaker pages. Would that still be okay, if any child pages from those pages were left to be indexed ?.
Many thanks
Pete

The real question is...
Has Google already gathered a snapshot of all the data for the next Panda update already, if so its too late anyway.
With Penguin that has always been the case. If you are not ready a month before the update then you miss the boat.John Mueller at Google has always said duplication is not the biggest factor it is more how you represent that content. If there is other content around it that makes your site unique and maybe a better option than others then you can be justified in having that duplicate content.
A suppression because of Panda can be an overall look at your site so it may be wise to noindex the weak pages.
Also if they are all under a specific directory structure such as /products/ you could do a fetch as Google in Webmaster Tools on it or even create a sitemap with just the pages that have changed and do a fetch on that page using the option to crawl all linked pages. This can be a very fast way to get Google to react to your changes.
Hope that helps.

During major update rankings update seem to be on pause ?
Hello, I have read in the past that during a major update google puts all his ressources in the update and it seems that they don't update search results anymore. Has someone noticed that too ? How long does it take for an update to be rolled out fully and have everything get back to normal ? Thank you,

Whats up with the last google update.
I have numerous clients who were at the top of page in the top 3 spots. They all dropped to page 3 or 4 or 2 and now they are number 1 in maps or in the top 3. Content is great on all these sites. backlinks are high quality and we do not build high quantity, we always focus on quality. the sites have authorship information. trust . we have excellent content written by professionals in the industry for each of the websites. The sites load super fast. they are very mobile friendly. we have CDN installed. content is organized per topic. all of our citations are setup properly and no duplicates, or missing citations. code is good on the websites. we do not have anchor text links pointing to the site from gust posts or whatever. we have plenty of content. our DA/PA is great. Audits of the website are great. I've been doing this a long time and ive never been so dumb founded as to what google has done this time. Or better yet what exactly is wrong with our clients websites today that was working perfectly for the last 5 years. I really am getting frustrated. im comparing my sites to competitors and everything's better. Please someone guide me here and tell me what im missing or tell me what you have done to recover from this nonsense.

Mobile Meta Descriptions?
Hi Guys, We have two different versions of each page for both desktop and mobile example: http://tinyurl.com/zkxlxax http://tinyurl.com/zelqcbv We want to create meta descriptions for both versions. However in the CMS (http://www.mantistech.com.au/ecommerce_website_package.aspx) it only allows one meta description. Example: http://s21.postimg.org/ar8bzrh3r/screenshot_1804.jpg Does anyone know anyway around this? To add two different meta descriptions and tell Google which one to use based on device type. Thanks.

To index or de-index internal search results pages?
Hi there. My client uses a CMS/E-Commerce platform that is automatically set up to index every single internal search results page on search engines. This was supposedly built as an "SEO Friendly" feature in the sense that it creates hundreds of new indexed pages to send to search engines that reflect various terminology used by existing visitors of the site. In many cases, these pages have proven to outperform our optimized static pages, but there are multiple issues with them: The CMS does not allow us to add any static content to these pages, including titles, headers, metas, or copy on the page The query typed in by the site visitor always becomes part of the Title tag / Meta description on Google. If the customer's internal search query contains any less than ideal terminology that we wouldn't want other users to see, their phrasing is out there for the whole world to see, causing lots and lots of ugly terminology floating around on Google that we can't affect. I am scared to do a blanket de-indexation of all /search/ results pages because we would lose the majority of our rankings and traffic in the short term, while trying to improve the ranks of our optimized static pages. The ideal is to really move up our static pages in Google's index, and when their performance is strong enough, to de-index all of the internal search results pages - but for some reason Google keeps choosing the internal search results page as the "better" page to rank for our targeted keywords. Can anyone advise? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks!

Google Indexing Feedburner Links???
I just noticed that for lots of the articles on my website, there are two results in Google's index. For instance: http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html and http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thewebhostinghero+(TheWebHostingHero.com) Now my Feedburner feed is set to "noindex" and it's always been that way. The canonical tag on the webpage is set to: rel='canonical' href='http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/tools-for-creating-wordpress-plugins.html' /> The robots tag is set to: name="robots" content="index, follow, noodp" /> I found out that there are scrapper sites that are linking to my content using the Feedburner link. So should the robots tag be set to "noindex" when the requested URL is different from the canonical URL? If so, is there an easy way to do this in Wordpress?

Member request pages, indexed or no indexed?
We run a service website and basically users of the site post their request to get certain items fixed/serviced. Through Google Analytics we have found that we got lots of traffic to these request pages from people searching for those particular items. E.g. A member's request page: "Cost to fix large Victorian oven" has got many visits from searchers searching for "large Victorian oven". The traffic to these pages is about 40% of our Google organic traffic but didn't covert to more users/requests well and has roughly 67% bounce rate. So my question is: should we keep these pages indexed and if yes what can we do to improve the conversion rate/reduce bounce rate? Many thanks guys. David
