National keyword results v local keyword results
-
If the keyword contains the location term like "SEO company London" is it better to use the wider results over local?
Additionally, some best practice examples of national v local result tracking would be great

If your tracking app allows, track as much as you can. Local and non-local will always be given different positions, so always track both.

Hi folks,
I'll attempt to clarify what my question. Apologies.
So what I want to know is...what is best practice when tracking keywords.
Specifically relating to the practice of tracking terms such as "SEO agency" and "SEO agency London" as an example. One keyword without the geographic term, one with the geographic term.
Would it be a better set up to track "SEO agency" keyword positions over time at both the national and local level, than set up to track "SEO agency London" at both the national and local level?
I guess what I am really trying to get at is whether or not a geographic term within the keyword nullifies the point of tracking search positions at the local level.
Does that help?

Hi Darren,
I agree with Andy that a bit more detail might clarify this.
I believe what you may be asking is whether it is better to optimize your website for local or national keywords. The answer to this would lie in where you want to build up your business. If you are hoping to serve clients mainly in your local area, and you meet with these clients face-to-face, then optimizing for your local geographic terms will be most appropriate. If, however, you do not have in-person transactions with your clients and are offering a virtual service on a national scale, then this would point more toward service-focused optimization instead of geographic-focused optimization.
Not totally sure this is what you are asking, though, so please feel free to provide further details about your question. Thanks!

Can you expand on this please Darren? I don't really understand what the question is. Is it better to use the wider results for what?

International Keyword Research
Good morning! I have a quick question about international keyword research. So, I created a keyword list full of terms that we want to analyze in Latin America. My question is around search results. For example, if the keyword I am analyzing in English is "apples" and I choose the region as Mexico, should I submit the keyword to be analyzed as "apples" or the Spanish translation "manzanas"? I am confused as to whether the results account for the translation of someone searching "manzanas" in Mexico to the English term "apples" and how that whole process works. Let me know if I need to elaborate because I understand that the whole question is super confusing haha. Thanks for any help you can give! 🙂

Keywords moving up, except...
The keywords on my page are moving up, except for one. I have routinely ranked between 13-15 for one particular keyword. I am aware that it is a broad term, however, at one point, I showed up on page one at #6, and then dropped right back down to where I was. The website it "sexaddict.com" and, don't worry, it's for addicts so you won't find anything but help and resources there. The keyword is "sex addiction." Thanks, Ryan

Keyword Over-usage?
I have a photography page, where there are a number of galleries. In the galleries and thumbnails of each photo I'm selling. These also include the title. It's built dynamically. However, I've noticed when I do an on-page grade check, that one of the places I'm failing is over-using the keyword on the page. This is mainly due to the titles of each photo containing that keyword. For example, there might be a photo gallery for images of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and 30 of the 40 images on the page have a title with "Golden Gate Bridge" in them. So naturally, the title is displaying this on the page and showing up 30+ times (after the term is used in the page text as well). Is this a really big problem, or is the benefit on each individual photo page outweighing any hit on the gallery page? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Which keyword for title
I'm trying to figure out what to use for my title text. It's for a structural steel fabrication company. Adwords has the average monthly searches for "structural steel" and "steel fabrication" identical at 5,400. It has "structural steel fabrication" at 390 which I get that since its longer and a little more specific will have less searches. My question is if I make the title "structural steel fabrication" does google just see it as 1 big keyword or will it rank for "structural steel" and/or "steel fabrication"? What would any of you go with here? All 3 keyword strings make sense for the person seeing the title. Thanks for any advice you can give, Clay

Keywords and Rank Checker Tool
Two questions about checking the rank of keywords. The easiest way to say this is by example. I have a keyword that SEOMOZ ranks on google in the 32nd position but when I look for that keyword in Google it's nowhere to be found (it's buried deep in the results pages somewhere). Where does SEOMOZ get its keyword results from? How do I non-localize my browser so I can see "global" keyword results? Is there such a thing? thanks in advance.

How do I figure out which keyword to optimize for?
What's up guys! We run a site for tennis players and courts in the whole country - http://www.tennisround.com/. People use the site to find a tennis partner at their skill level and send each other invites to set up matches, it's also used to find local tennis courts. The question is - Which keyword(s) should we optimize the site for and how? Cheers, Alex 7h1HKYL_jJ0 sYaQH 7h1HKYL_jJ0 sYaQH 7h1HKYL_jJ0

Effective keyword grouping - any suggestions?
I have a specific question regarding keyword grouping. Whenever I've have compiled a (long) list of keywords, I create smaller groups of keywords that can be targeted by a category or page. However, I find this to be quite labour-intensive as I'm doing this work manually through filtering in Excel. To illustrate what I mean, here's an example of a keyword list: baby shirt
Keyword Research | | DeptAgency
t-shirt for baby
pregnancy shirts
pregnancy gifts Normally I would create a list of root words, like this: baby
shirt
pregnancy
gift I would then manually filter the list on each root word and copy the filtered list to separate tabs, which would result in lists like this: baby
baby shirt
t-shirt for baby shirt
baby shirt
t-shirt for baby
pregnancy shirts etc. As you can imagine, this is a lot of work. So my hope is that you can help me out with a smart tool / Excel formula / ??? to automate this process. Thanks for any suggestions!0
