Problems with analytics, conversation data and assisted conversions
-
Hi guys. Having issues with analytics.
Firstly, it doesn't record all our sales accurately. My boss downloaded a sales report directly from our site, and it doesn't match up to the analytics, our actual sales were significantly higher than Google analytics was reporting (by about a 1/3). Any idea why Google is missing so many of the conversions?
Also, I'm trying to work our how many assisted conversion we are getting from our ad words campaigns. I've been looking through our top conversion path data to try find conversions that started with a paid click.
However, I seem to have some inconsistencies. We have only one ad words group that is on the display network (Re-marketing V1 Ad group 1) , and according to analytics we have a conversion from it (See Screen shot 1). However, there is no record of this in our ad words data. (See screen shot 2).
This is over the same time period.
I don't know what to take from this. Can anyone help?
Isaac.

Jasmine is correct in that GA is not a proper data source for 100% accurate information.
Unfortunately there are many reasons for this.
The free version of GA often basing data on a sampling of visits. If you go to the Conversions/ECommerce/Overview/ report, in the upper right corner you can see whether it's a sampling and if so, what the percentage sampled is.
Another issue is that if the Google Analytics code didn't fire properly during a session or part of a session, that information will not be tracked properly in its entirety or partially. Sometimes that's because site visitors have browser types or browser plugins that block scripts, and other times its because of a breakdown in data transmitted between the visitors browser, your site and Google's analytics servers.
She's also spot on with recommending that you dig into the multi-funnel channel report.
bottom line - it's important to understand that only your actual internal site server system can provide you with accurate sales data, though that might lack certain deeper insights regarding origination and demographics. Any other analytics program can help provide insights, however should only be seen for trend analysis purposes.

Hi Issac,
From my experience with GA, it is never 100% accurate to real sales data. Every company I've worked with has had similar issues. Google Analytics is no replacement for BI or CRM data. Also, depending on how much data you have running through the free version of GA, you may only be seeing a sampling of your total traffic.
I would suggest looking at the multi-channel funnels report instead of the assisted conversions report. It will summarize where your conversions are coming from based on where the click was in the total conversion referral path.
AdWords is a first click attribution platform, whereas GA is a last click attribution platform. It is likely that you will have referred that user by a search ad then they came back via retargeting within a 30 day window. Maybe you can look into the conversion path for this one goal and see where most of your clicks are originating?
Let me know if that was helpful!
Jasmine

Is it possible to import data from an old Google Analytics profile to a new Google Analytics profile?
We have encountered a situation where a client's old SEO firm is refusing to grant us Admin access to our client's existing GA account. For security purposes (so the other SEO firm doesn't delete the existing GA profile) we have started a new Google Analytics profile. Again we do have access to the data in the old account. Is it possible to migrate this old data over (if we just have user access)? Thanks for the help

Tracking repeat buyers Universal Analytics
Hi there, I want to track the repeat buyers on my ecommerce. In order to do that, I am going to create a custom dimension on Analytics. The custom dimension will be called "repeat_buyers" with scope user because I want to track the user over time. Is my assumption correct? How would you you set it up? When I have this dimension, I would just apply the default metric transaction on my reports. I don't have experiencie on custom dimensions so I might be totally wrong. Can you please help? Thanks and regards

Domain redirect for direct mail (source) tracking in Analytics?
We have a client that would like to do some direct mail marketing and the plan is to use a short/simple domain in the marketing materials, which redirects to the main site domain. By default this would show as a referral traffic source in Analytics, right? So any traffic that came through that redirect would be attributed to "shortdomain.com / referral"? Meaning I wouldn't need to do any sort of customized, advanced tracking set up to track conversions that I've already set up (ecomm and goals) and attribute them to this new source? Just double checking that I'm not overlooking something. Thanks!

Using Filters On Google Analytics
Hi Guys, I am In need of some technical help with regards to Google analytics. One of my clients has a site providing HR Software on SaaS basis. The users login via the site for the various HR Tools. Obviously this is skewing the analytics data and showing 10,000+ extra visitors that actually don't exist. Now I understand i can add filters and exclude certain pages for instance the login page, however, some users will visit the home page then click login. How can I exclude them just to show new visitors to the site rather than users that are just trying to login. Hope this makes sense Neil

Google Analytics traffic hijacking?
Ran into something interesting a week ago - the same Google Analytics code was installed on two different sites by accident. The account was reporting traffic from both domains. Haven't found a definitive answer on how to stop this yet if it were to be used maliciously?

Google Analytics should track users from iPhone App
Hi Mozzers, you say there are no dumb questions, here is one. We've build an iPhone App for our Website working-dog.eu. So users can read there new messages with ease when they are out of the office, read about breeds, ... do all the nice stuff they want. I don't think so, but is it possible to track these users with Google Analytics? When the come via App, the Analytics code will not run for them. But maybe it could start an AJAX request or something like this? But how should the code run, without a browser which can interprete JavaScript? So, in short: Is it possible to track users from iPhone App with Google Analytics? Kind regards Patrick
