_Styling in my SERP, why?_
-
So Google is using an
tag for my SERP snippet and there is styling in that
that uses _and for some reason that _is showing up in the snippet itself. So "blah, blah blah, _19.99 _blah" is what is being displayed. How do I prevent this from happening? I thought styling within the header tags was fine?
So what I am trying to do basically:
Adventure Bear 16 oz
or
Adventure Bear 1.1oz
Is this allowed or am I making a terrible mistake here?
Thanks,
Chris Birkholm____ -
There are a couple of spots, such as the link title attribute ( <a title...="">where your tags are being translated into <em>. For example:</a>
<a title...=""></a> _<a title...=""></a><a <="" span="">href="</a>/store/stanley/en_US/pd/productID.325299600" title="Classic One Hand Vacuum Mug <em>20oz</em>">
Not sure what's going on, but might be an oddity in the CMS. I suspect Google is processing one of these instead of the actual text, but not sure why._
-
I placed a link to the Google SERP above.

Oh, strange. I would generally expect Google to just strip it out. I wonder if those tags are being processed in some odd way (like an unusual character set). Offhand, though, if browsers parse it, Google should be able to.
-
So there were actually two meta descriptions on the page, one that was a default template thing that for some reason wasn't cleared so Google was reverting to using other copy. I obviously had that default MD removed but also understand that this wont immediately get Google to use the correct one and that this will take some time. Thanks though!
-
It wasn't showing up italicized, it actually showed up with xxxx Rather than xxxx
-
Agree with others - that style tag should be fine. May I ask, though - why does it matter? If you italicize the text in the header, what's wrong with having it italicized in the SERP snippet? It might actually stand out (in a good way).
-
You are not making a terrible mistake here and styling in the header is fine. Google normally removes this. Care to share the SERP you are looking at?
-
What you are doing should be fine i think.
Work around:
Did you set a proper title tag and metadescription? Using a metadescription with the requested keyword in it prevents google from using the content (most of the times)

Google Adding Incorrect Location to the end of Title Tags in SERPs
I have an issue with the way Google is adding to a client’s Title Tag. Since we relaunched the website a few months ago, Google has been adding an indiscriminate “– London” to the end of title tags. That would be fine if the company was solely London based but we have stores outside London too, and it’s adding “– London” to the end of those individual store title tags there too. So, if you do a search for “location widget” our page title is:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DrewDaviesLondon
“location widget | Brand name”
but then Google pops in:
“location widget | Brand name - London”
Which isn’t great if the location is in Scotland! We are adding structured data to the store pages to try and combat this, the store pages are all well optimised for the location (and ranking well), but I’m wondering if I’ve missed anything obvious? I thought it might lesson as the new site became more trusted in Google, but the rogue “London” seems to be increasing... Thanks for your help!0 -

Negative News in SERP results?
Hey guys, We did reputation management back in March 2017. We basically built high quality links to online assets such as linkedin, twitter, facebook, positive PR articles and other web properties in order to rank them higher then negative PR. However there was 0 change (the link building was solid). And the negative PR remains in the top 10 with also positive new articles about the site. At this point, i believe that Google is keeping the negative PR in the top 10 to keep balanced SERP results. Does anyone know if this is something Google does to balance positive and negative results? Cheers.

Control Over SERPs
I launched a content branch of over 1200 guides for my company's website one year ago. This content branch now receives 180,000 visits per month. Unfortunately, my company has needed to cut back on several of the vertical services that it offers. As a result, many of the top article search results accounting for the majority of the traffic to this branch are now obsolete. Are there any feasible ways to shift the authority of these obsolete top rated pages (located in the top 20 results) to other articles that cover services that we still do offer? For reference, please see the attached image containing an overview of the top 20x results accounting for 40% of all traffic to this content branch. Green are still valid content and but all other colors are not. Does anyone have suggestions for moving more green articles up and into the top 20x results while pushing the other ones down without loosing out on overall site traffic? Appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks!!! 1qMyYEJ.jpg

How to clean up a SERP?
I have a new customer and he wants me to clear up the SERP for his branded keyword, the SERP currently has his site and two other sites related to him under his result... Under that is bad reviews and old reports. My client does own the top spot (#1) for his branded name. My client has a: linkedin facebook twitter myspace I was thinking to push all these to the first page, this will clear up some of those bad reviews. What are your thoughts? Have any of you ever had this type of case? I need to get 6 different sites to all rank for the same exact key term, however I have the top spot to link from...

Website gone from SERPs - please help to understand why
Dear SeoMozers, My website www.buy-hosting.net ist around for about 6 months. It performed quiet well the first months and for the main keyword "Buy Hosting" it went continously better, until #7 in SERPS of Google. Then, some days ago, it suddenly disappeared and traffic went down to nearly zero. It is not even in the Top 100 for "buy hosting" anymore. Can anyone please advice me, what could be the reason for that and what I could do about it? I'am desperate, beacuse I worked about 8 months nearly 100% of my time on that project... Thank you and kind regards
