H1 tag- on home page - what is it best to include
-
is it best to have in the H1 tag
1. just our website address
2. combination of website address followed by short keywords about our website
-
It's depends upon your SEO strategy. Search engines give much weight to the H1 Tag. I vote for your second option : Site Name + Some Important Keyword.

Using the words of a great SEOer... Annielytics:
"Search engines use the H1 tag to interpret what a page is about, much the same way readers of a magazine use article titles to get an idea of what an article is about. When pages are missing H1 tags, it’s harder for both visitors and search engines to decipher what the page is about. The H1 tag should contain a judicious use of the keyword(s) you’re targeting the page for. Be careful to make the language natural and not keyword stuffed. If you have to decide between user experience and SEO, go with user experience."
I would just concentrate on using the H1 tag to add value to the users experience. I guess they will already know that they are on your website, so no need to remind them of this in the H1. As Annie mentions above, use it like you would if it was an article in a magazine. You wouldn't repeat the magazine name within an article title already in the magazine.
also, the 'beginners guide' link that Matt Roney has shared is a great resource!!
Hope that helps!

I can't think of a reason to include your website address in an H1 tag at all. H1 is intended to indicate the topic of the content on a page; it functions as a headline similarly to how a headline on a newspaper page works. That's why it's a somewhat decent place to place keywords—it indicates to search engines what the page is about.
For a homepage, I'd recommend using your brand name, in text. If there are other relevant keywords, use them as long as it appears natural and informative to visitors. But actually placing your URL in an H1 is unlikely to have any value for you.

What Do You Put For Key Words On A Home Page?
Hello, I am a physical therapist and own the company Back In Motion Physical Therapy. We specialize in orthopedic, sport, and spine injuries in Fort Myers, FL. My question is for your home page do you put the keywords of the surrounding city and cities such as Fort Myers, Cape Coral, etc? Secondly, should I have a keyword of physical therapist and physical therapy as well? Lastly, do I need to use those words on my home page for it to become relevant from google? Check out my site here: www.backinmotionsspt.com

Home page keyword in url
I have been looking into SEO for a few weeks now trying to perfect a homepage. Going through various sources on MOZ, and other examples out there on the internet, I keep seeing that you should have your keyword in the URL of the page. The homepage is the page most people want to rank the highest in google searches, however, you cannot put the keyword in the URL as most home page URLs are simply /. Should I actually make the home like this: www.example.com/key-word-example? I would imagine this would not be the normal for many users and would seem like it's not the home page.

Best way to do a 301 redirect when the incorrect page has rank and FB likes
Due to a site structural problem with our CMS we have alot of duplicate content pages (1 page, with multiple urls). We are in the process of setting up 301 redirects to correct the problem. Meanwhile; one of the pages with the "incorrect" URL happens to be the page google favors and also has about 100 FB "likes". The question is: Are we better off keeping the "incorrect" URL for that particular page and redirect the other url to it? Both have a page rank of 3. Thanks

2 canonical tags on the same page
When using the 'on-page optimizer' tool, I continue to get the same recommendation on every page to only use 1 canonical tag on the page. I'm not sure why there are 2 tags on each page in the first place so I don't know how to remove the one that's not needed. Our site is on a WP blog and a sample page to view the source code would be: http://www.shilohstreet.com/blog/is-flipping-houses-smart-real-estate-investing.html Does anyone know why this is happening, how to fix it and/or if I should even be concerned with it? Thanks!

Page URL Hiearchy
So I have read on here that page URL Hiearchy is important. My question is from a search engine standpoint which of the following methods would be the best to use (or another if not listed) COMPACT and naturally hierarchical MountainBiking.com MountainBiking.com/adventures ( a list of the pages below ) MountainBiking.com/adventures/in whistler (for each page) MountainBiking.com/adventures/in utah OR VERBOSE but reptetive MountainBiking.com MountainBiking.com/Mountain Biking adventures ( intro + a list of the pages below ) MountainBiking.com/Mountain Biking Adventures/Mounting Biking adventures in whistler MountainBiking.com/Mountain Biking Adventures/Mountain Biking Adventures in Utah It seemed like the blog I read suggested the compact form, but it seems to me that the verbose (though admittedly a bit clunky) seems better so far as exact keyword match etc. Experience and or advice on this?

Keyword placement on home page or throughout the website
OK, I find the courage to ask this because there is not supposed to be a dumb question. Like all of us, I want my website to rank great with a particular keyword. Do I have to use this keyword only on my home page (the start page which I want to appear on top Google results), or does it make a difference if I use the keyword on several articles that I post on my website. These articles all have seperate links. Eg i want the www.website.com to be found by Google, but this website contains www.website.com/link1.html, www.website.com/link2.html.. etc. Will keyword usage on link1.html, link2.html etc be relevant so that www.website.com is found by Google? Or is every single page for itself? Hope I have explained that well and I would really appreciate your feedback.

What is the best practice for changing a url of an existing page
I a looking through the on-page SEO reports in SEOmoz for one of my sites. It suggests that I change the url of a particular page to match the desired search term I want to rank for. In this case it is a site for a local business and the url is example.com/testimonials. when it probabaly should have instead been example.com/city-business-reviews. I have just a couple links to this page and I'm stuck towards the bottom of page 1 in the SERPs currently. Questions... 1. Should I change the url to include the exact keyword term I want the page to rank for? 2. If yes, what is the best method to ensure that any existing link juice to the current url is retained? Would I change the url, then create a new page with the old url and apply a 301 redirect to point it to the new page? Thanks!
