Website still not recovered from Panda # 20 (Sep 2012 update)
-
Hi everyone,My website was hit by Panda around the 27th September 2012 (Panda # 20 or EMD) , since then, it's no longer in Google search results for a particular keyword [wallpapers], resulting in a massive sudden traffic drop (-90%) (see the screenshot below).Despite my best efforts auditing my links, identifying unnatural backlinks, disavowing bad links, enhancing my website content, improving user experience... (I even ended up with a completely revamped website: new design, new structure and new content), I didn't see any improvement! Can you please look at It and Advise me? I am ready to give up; I am in deep despair. What are my competitors doing better than me? Competitor #1 Competitor #2Thank you in advance - I appreciate your timeMy website: http://goo.gl/maaxazLroAvD5.jpg

The most important thing to do is to have generous amounts of informative text. Lots of people use the same images, you can still have a good website if the text is generous in amount, unique, and meaningful.

Hi EGOL,
Thank you for your response, and apologies for the delay responding, my English level is not perfect ... I'm better in French, it takes me time knowing and choosing the appropriate words to express myself.
Regarding the uniqueness of the content, it's kinda difficult with images based websites, as any new image posted on internet is found instantaneously on imgur, flickr, Photobucket, and a multitude of other websites, and I cannot ask contributors for exclusivity.
To remedy this issue, I've implemented an algorithm to smartly crop the original images by keeping intact their point of interest, which generate good quality wallpapers for a large choice of devices/ratio/resolutions (see example below)
http://goo.gl/5IzPRb Original
http://goo.gl/39ZzPg iPhone 5 version
http://goo.gl/laa9Je Twitter Header version
As you can see, the bird is emphasized, no matter the ratio or the size of the screen. Which makes it "unique" in my opinion, and add more value when compared to competition.
Let me please reformulate my question: What would cause Google to favor Competitor #1 over My website ?
Even on mobile, and for my main keywords (EMD), I see non mobile friendly websites rank way better then me.

Most of the pages on this site simply display an image, a title, and some ads.
Some of these images and their titles appear on many other websites.
The goal of Panda is to demote sites that have skimpy content and content that appears on lots of other websites. That is what I see at your website.
When Google decides that a website deserves a Panda hit they demote the rankings of pages all across the website.
So, if you want to get out of a Panda problem, that is going to require improving the uniqueness and substantiveness of the content. The days that you can toss up a page with an image and a title and expect to get a lot of traffic are gone, especially when that same content is everywhere.
If you want this site to be competitive then the content has to be competitive either in uniqueness or substantiveness, or both depending upon the competitiveness of your niche. The best way to do that is to write about each image. An image is worth a thousand words, I am sure that you have heard that.
That's the best advice that I can give. Getting out of Panda require either tossing out substandard content or doing a lot of work to make substandard content superior.

How to mitigate impact of retiring 20,000 old URLs from the previous website version (migration was in 2015)
Hello! So, we migrated our website in 2015 to the "new version" and we now have 20,000 old URLs that we'd like to officially retire. the only traffic coming to these pages is obviously from backlinks pointing at our site. How do i gauge the hit that our website will take once we retire these URLs? Is there a tool that will allow me to look at referral traffic numbers per URL so that i know how much traffic we'll be losing? any advice would be helpful! thanks! yael

Schema.org problems (still)
Hey Mozzers, I've been working at this for a while now, and I can't figure out why the rich snippet data is not getting pulled for our reviews and product rating. I've included a sample URL where we have reduced the schema.org markup: http://www.tripcentral.ca/vacations-packages_00_03_JN_gran-bahia-principe-coba.html | } | Any thoughts? I was told not to list multiple reviews, so I took them out. But it's still not being picked up in the SERPs, and we would really like the star rating data to appear. Any useful advice would be appreciated!

How to find 20 hidden 404s
Hello, We have like twenty 404s left to find. How do you find these when: 1. They don't show up in Google Webmaster Tools 2. They don't have any other internal or external pages linking to them. 3. They don't show up in site:domain.com (We have 9000 pages and only 600 show up - I fixed those out of the 600). 4. They are probably causing high bounce rates. 5. They're not in the sitemap Thanks!

Best method to update navigation structure
Hey guys, We're doing a total revamp of our site and will be completely changing our navigation structure. Similar pages will exist on the new site, but the URLs will be totally changed. Most incoming links just point to our root domain, so I'm not worried about those, but the rest of the site does concern me. I am setting up 1:1 301 redirects for the new navigation structure to handle getting incoming links where they need to go, but what I'm wondering is what is the best way to make sure the SERPs are updated quickly without trashing my domain quality, and ensuring my page and domain authority are maintained. The old links won't be anywhere on the new site. We're swapping the DNS record to the new site so the only way for the old URLs to be hit will be incoming links from other sites. I was thinking about creating a sitemap with the old URLs listed and leaving that active for a few weeks, then swapping it out for an updated one. Currently we don't have one (kind of starting from the bottom with SEO) Also, we could use the old URLs for a few weeks on the new site to ensure they all get updated as well. It'd be a bit of work, but may be worth it. I read this article and most of that seems to be covered, but just wanted to get the opinions of those who may have done this before. It's a pretty big deal for us. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/uncrawled-301s-a-quick-fix-for-when-relaunches-go-too-well Am I getting into trouble if I do any of the above, or is this the way to go? PS: I should also add that we are not changing our domain. The site will remain on the same domain. Just with a completely new navigation structure.

Need advice for indexing a multilingual website
We are in the process of creating a Spanish subdomain of our website. I want to know what needs to be done in regard to meta tags, sitemap.xml and robots.txt so that Google and Bing will index both website properly and not causing the web page on the English site to lost rank. Our English site is www.mydomain.com with the Spanish site being es.mydomain.com We are planning to put a button or link on both sites so that visitors can switch between both sites. The two sites are similar but not all pages are mirror images.

Content Marketing: Should we build a separate website or built in site within the Website itself?
Hi Mozzers, Client: Big carpet cleaner player in the carpet cleaning industry Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site. SEO question: In terms of SEO, what would be the most beneficial for us to do, should we built in this new section/site outside or inside the client's site? I personally think that it should be separated from the main site because of the main reasons: A followed link to the main site Anchor texts implementation linking back to our service pages If we would to choose to build in this content, it would be highly beneficial for getting organic traffic within the main site but I am afraid this will not provide us any link juice since anchor texts won't be accounted the same since all of those would be located in the Nav bar of the main site. Can someone tell me what would be the best in terms of SEO? P.S: My boss doesn't agree with me and would rather go the second option (build in within the main site) that's why i am asking you guys what would be the most beneficial? Thank you Guys
