Website still not recovered from Panda # 20 (Sep 2012 update)
-
Hi everyone,My website was hit by Panda around the 27th September 2012 (Panda # 20 or EMD) , since then, it's no longer in Google search results for a particular keyword [wallpapers], resulting in a massive sudden traffic drop (-90%) (see the screenshot below).Despite my best efforts auditing my links, identifying unnatural backlinks, disavowing bad links, enhancing my website content, improving user experience... (I even ended up with a completely revamped website: new design, new structure and new content), I didn't see any improvement! Can you please look at It and Advise me? I am ready to give up; I am in deep despair. What are my competitors doing better than me? Competitor #1 Competitor #2Thank you in advance - I appreciate your timeMy website: http://goo.gl/maaxazLroAvD5.jpg

The most important thing to do is to have generous amounts of informative text. Lots of people use the same images, you can still have a good website if the text is generous in amount, unique, and meaningful.

Hi EGOL,
Thank you for your response, and apologies for the delay responding, my English level is not perfect ... I'm better in French, it takes me time knowing and choosing the appropriate words to express myself.
Regarding the uniqueness of the content, it's kinda difficult with images based websites, as any new image posted on internet is found instantaneously on imgur, flickr, Photobucket, and a multitude of other websites, and I cannot ask contributors for exclusivity.
To remedy this issue, I've implemented an algorithm to smartly crop the original images by keeping intact their point of interest, which generate good quality wallpapers for a large choice of devices/ratio/resolutions (see example below)
http://goo.gl/5IzPRb Original
http://goo.gl/39ZzPg iPhone 5 version
http://goo.gl/laa9Je Twitter Header version
As you can see, the bird is emphasized, no matter the ratio or the size of the screen. Which makes it "unique" in my opinion, and add more value when compared to competition.
Let me please reformulate my question: What would cause Google to favor Competitor #1 over My website ?
Even on mobile, and for my main keywords (EMD), I see non mobile friendly websites rank way better then me.

Most of the pages on this site simply display an image, a title, and some ads.
Some of these images and their titles appear on many other websites.
The goal of Panda is to demote sites that have skimpy content and content that appears on lots of other websites. That is what I see at your website.
When Google decides that a website deserves a Panda hit they demote the rankings of pages all across the website.
So, if you want to get out of a Panda problem, that is going to require improving the uniqueness and substantiveness of the content. The days that you can toss up a page with an image and a title and expect to get a lot of traffic are gone, especially when that same content is everywhere.
If you want this site to be competitive then the content has to be competitive either in uniqueness or substantiveness, or both depending upon the competitiveness of your niche. The best way to do that is to write about each image. An image is worth a thousand words, I am sure that you have heard that.
That's the best advice that I can give. Getting out of Panda require either tossing out substandard content or doing a lot of work to make substandard content superior.

Content Of Dead Websites Can be resused?
I have 2 websites. One website links are from spamy techniques (wrong guy hired) which still has massive links so I started a new website with a fresh domain. Now when the new website (only white hate methods used) has started to show positive movements I feel like its the right time to shut the other website down. Since, I have a lot of content on my first site (spamy links) can i reuse the content again on my new site after I shut down my first site?

Keyword Stuffing - Ecommerce websites
Hey Mozzers, Im undertaking a content audit and its going very well, we have written some better content for the first set of pages, it still needs some improvement but we have a good base and starting point from which we can make an SEO log and work on it over time. For the content I used the following formula for how many times to include a keyword Word Count / Length of Keyword. (eg. 600 words / 3 word keyword = 200). Then 1-4% of this (2-8 times). This has worked well for me in the past and has been a good base guide. I have ran the pages through Moz optimiser and every single page hit an A for keyword page optimisation. However many of the pages failed on keyword stuffing, which obviously has high priority. My dilemma is that, moz counts 15 as the cut off for keyword stuffing with the written text we have done really well with using it a set number of times. But these pages are product category pages. The keyword in the extreme of cases is listed 7-9 times in the side nav menu. 7-9 times in the product category listings. Take for example *** it is optimised for thermometers (i know it a tough single word keyword, and we have fairly modest aims with it, im using it here for example purposes). The word is used a good number of times within the article but is sent through the roof with the links to the sub categories. This page for example mentions the keyword 30 times. Can anybody suggest any ways to improve on this? Is how we display the categories in the nav bar and in the page excessive? As always many thanks!

Periodic DNS Switching for Major Website Updates - Any Downsides?
A company is performing some major updates to a website and the proposal to go live with the updates was explained as follows: Once the updates are done on the testing environment and the site is ready to go live, we switch the DNS to the testing environment and then this testing environment becomes the production site. And the old production site becomes the new testing environment. Are there any potential negatives to this? Is there a name for this technique? Of course, we've already considered : additional hosting cost potential performance differences- reinstalling and setting up server settings - SSL, etc.

How to structure articles on a website.
Hi All, Key to a successful website is quality content - so the Gods of Google tell me. Embrace your audience with quality feature rich articles on your products or services, hints and tips, how to, etc. So you build your article page with all the correct criteria; Long Tail Keyword or phrases hitting the URL, heading, 1st sentance, etc. My question is this
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
Let's say you have 30 articles, where would you place the 30 articles for SEO purposes and user experiences. My thought are:
1] on the home page create a column with a clear heading "Useful articles" and populate the column with links to all 30 articles.
or
2] throughout your website create link references to the articles as part of natural information flow.
or
3] Create a banner or impact logo on the all pages to entice your audience to click and land on dedicated "articles page" Thanks Mark0 -
Recovering from Programmers Error
Hey Everybody! Last year one of my bigger sites hit a snaffu. I was getting about 300k + hits a day from google, and then, when a developper released an update with a robots.txt file that basically blocked google from the entire site. We didn't notice the bug until a few days later, but by then, it was already too late. My google traffic dropped to 30k a day and I've been having the hardest time coming back ever since. As a matter of fact, hundreds of sites that were aggregating my content started outranking me for my own terms. For over a year, I've been working on building what I lost back and everything seemed to be coming together. I was back at 100k+ hits a day Until today... My developpers repeated the exact same error as last year. They blocked google from crawling my site for over 5 days and now I'm down to 10k se hits a day. My question : Has anyone encountered this problem before and what did you do to come back?
