Our PPC UTM URLs Aren't Registering In GA Properly
-
Hi,
We recently ran a few ads on Facebook and Reddit for a campaign of ours. Each of the URLs were properly attributed UTM links. Some of them register properly in campaigns, but the vast majority aren't.
I can only find the attribution by checking All Traffic and displaying the landing page and the source/medium. Our Facebook Ad Manager reports MANY more clicks than our Campaign section in GA is for the campaign name.
Here's the URL I receive for the landing page: /?url=http://www.ourwebsiteurl.com/our-landing-page?utm_source=facebook.com&dm_redirected=true
Is Facebook writing over our UTM with their own so all I receive is that it came from Facebook? The URL we used was complete with utm_source, utm_campaign and utm_medium, yet these aren't fully reported.
Any ideas?

Hello Kirmeliux!
Josh is correct. The redirect is likely causing your issue, especially if you are only seeing the issue on mobile traffic.
One fix would be to create two versions of your ad, one targeting the Desktop Right Column & Desktop News Feed with your desktop URL & another targeting the Mobile News Feed with your mobile URL. GA will still combine these data sets into one campaign assuming those UTM parameters match.
Also, check to make sure you're using Facebook's new URL tags feature at the bottom of the ad creation page to ensure your tagging is correctly appended.Hope that helps!

Yes, unfortunately that would do it. The original UTM is lost in the hand-off it appears. There are cases where vendors, similar to DM, can account for both the incoming UTM and their own parameters but in your case that doesn't appear to be the case. I am not familiar with their product, but may be worth asking their Support folks if this is something they have, maybe buried in advanced settings, or are working on.
Good luck!

Hi Josh,
Thanks for the response.
The URLs were built through Google's URL builder and I believe they're valid. Thee view in GA is definitely raw. The only filters I have are to ignore the common spam bots like all-buttons and such.
I believe the dm_redirected is due to our mobile site being configured by a service called DudaMobile. So it looks like mobile users clicked the Facebook ad and were redirected to our mobile version, which Duda apparently tags themselves in the redirect? Would this wipe out the original UTM?

Were the UTM tagged links built at scale (spreadsheet), or with a tool (Google's own URL Builder)? Creating links without some sort of process will commonly introduce mistakes.
Also, are you utilizing a 'raw' View within GA? Doing so would allow for easy troubleshooting of many issues; including this one. A raw View is exactly what it sounds like...a view with no rules, no filters, nothing. If in this View the links showed up as desired under Campaigns, then you would know a filter or view setting was the culprit in your 'main' View.
Good luck

Are there any recent studies of organic CTR vs. PPC CTR?
Pretty much the title. I am putting together a "game plan" for my CEO, where I would like to touch on the difference in CTR between SERP organic results and SERP PPC results. I've found a few blog posts that talks about PPC being responsible for 15% of all clicks, where 1-5 organic results are responsible for 68ish % and the rest being on 6-10 and page 2/3. However, I do not see any sources in these articles, which begs the question, where are these numbers taken from? Any suggestions? My own gut feeling (and SERP behaviour) tells me that these numbers might actually be super accurate, but since my business plan will most likely end up in the hands of our board of directors, I would very much like to back up my action points for growth, with actual sources. Thanks in advance.

Google Adwords Clicks not registering properly???
Hello Moz World, I am running a Google Adwords campaign utilizing Google Search and Search Partners only. These are traditional text ads. When I look at the analytics through Google Adwords, I am seeing 60 clicks. Great! However, when I look through the keywords in the ad groups, none of my keywords are registering clicks. I also checked search terms under the keyword tab, and no keywords are populating. Where are my ads being clicked, and how can I view information on these clicks. This is a relatively new campaign, and I am still trying to figure out if I am targeting the right keywords. Thanks ahead of time for all the great responses! B/R Will H.

PPC sessions being counted as organic in GA
I am coming across a very frustrating phenomenon in one of my PPC campaign reporting. In short: I believe that GA is counting some of my PPC sessions as organic (not provided). Has anybody come across this before? I believe they are being counted as organic because of the following: the website is brand new and does not rank for anything but their branded terms the few keywords showing up in GA are the terms we target our PPC towards the amount of sessions of Paid Search (in channels) and AdWords sessions don't match up (The number of actual PPC clicks is substantially higher than the Paid Search sessions) PPC clicks and sessions don't even match up in the AdWords part of GA GWT shows 0% CTR for any non branded terms Tell me I am crazy, but I really don't think I am. I just don't have the hard evidence to back it up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Using + in Adwords URL
Hi. I am using keywords in my Destination URL in Adwords. So http://example.com/?football+boots+supplier This was done by someone else and I am trying to understand the full meaning behind this. If I go to the page it links to, it is just the homepage of the website but obviously shows up in Analytics as a landing page that stills out from the general landing page of homepage / Is that the reason so its easier to track the data? I would have though using the Paid referral in Analytics does this better? Any help be great. Thanks

Can I dynamically add city name to my PPC ad text and URL based on the user's search?
I have looked into DKI (Dynamic Keyword Insertion), but have not found a solution and thought that some excellent Mozzer might be able to help. Here is the idea: We have landing pages for hundreds of cities. The local content on each of these cities changes page to page, however the keywords that we are going after are the same. So, I am trying to create a dynamic ad group that looks something like this: Headline: {City Name} {Keyword} Description: We cover {City Name} {Keyword}, get more info now! URL: http://www.website.com/{City Name} Please let me know if you can assist with this, B

Google PPC - coupon balances
So, I know that you can't simply transfer a coupon credit in Google AdWords to another account. My question, if anyone knows, is there a way to do this using My Client Center? We manage multiple accounts, and have another coming on board that has a pre-existing coupon credit. We were going to set up a new account (which we would handle billing for and just invoice) for the client. But, that would leave them unable to use a coupon code. If it's managed under MCC, is there a way to work around this?
