How do you find your ideas for content
-
Morning Mozzers,
We have finally come to the point where we can start to focus on making good original content.
We were wondering how you guys come up with ideas for your content. We are currently doing lots of keyword research to gather ideas and subject areas. But we are struggling with 'angles of attack'.
Being an eCommerce site it is easy to do lots of "The 5 best products for this" type of content. But we feel there is limited value in these especially if we want to gain links to our articles in future as valued content.
How do you come up with your ideas for more valuable and linkable content especially in very niche product areas.
Thanks all.

We've actually had a couple Mozinars on this topic recently.
Practical Content Skills to Improve Creativity and Idea Generation by Shelli Walsh

Like the 1st post mentions, Content is all about being helpful, humor and facts can only go so far and really in niche industries, you're most likely not going to create some viral sensations.
With that being said, there is no reason that you can't be the goto in your niche for answers.
I'd focus on any content that can help assist your customers to make better more informed decisions of their purchase. This provides trust as well as useful information, allowing the customer to believe in your site more and most times to purchase from you.
But the content that is designed to help needs to span from the beginner to the expert consumer. Nothing can be too redundant or advanced, but just throwing up a few frequently asked questions isn't going to cut it. You want to shower the helpful content and make it easy to find, even located on its own page or on the page it most relates too.
Best way to do this, either look at your content and products from a newbie point of view or if you can't grab someone who doesn't work with those products ( like a family member or friend ) have them take a look and ask them what they get and what they don't. Ask them if they had to come up with x amount of questions, what would they be. Go from them, you can really get a great feel of how users are viewing your site this way.
Hope this helps!

Use MOZ Content of course!

If you are a retailer you probably get lots of questions about how to select a product, how to use it, how to fix it, which one is best in this situation, etc. These are good topics to write about. Visitors will find them on your site and not need to contact you. If someone emails with a question, you can reply, we have an article about that here. These articles will rank for those queries in search and the people who read them can be monetized with adsense or house ads that offer relevant upgrades and accessories.
Answer the most frequent questions, answer the important questions that people are not asking, write about interesting product stuff that people don't know. Try to keep these articles on evergreen topics. You want your writing to be relevant for years rather than be out-of-date in a few months.

Reposting content.
I have some good articles I wrote for article directories a couple of years ago. I took them down 6 months ago. I am hoping to repost them somewhere better if the content isn't listed on google and passes Copyscape. Would this be safe?

Duplicate Ttile and Duplicate Content
I'm a beginner of SEO. I have a few questions need to ask people to help. The MozPro's Crawl Diagnostics show I have a lot of duplicate titles and duplicate content. However, most duplicate titles are related to Pagination. What should I do? Also, for my duplicate content. B/c we are selling similar products, everything all most the same, only product's item number different. How can I avoid it?

Is this dulplicate content causing me problems
Hi, i am going to try and explain this as best as possible as i am not used to working with k2 that much. What i have as an example is a page which is here http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News This page is news about ryanair now because i am working in joomla and i am working with k2, and i am also making each landing page a front page, i am having problems. For people who do not use joomla i will explain. For the ryanair page which is a front page, i have to make a category and that category for all my content to go into is called ryaniar-news. Now i have the page above which is for ryanair news but the problem i have got is, because i have a category it brings up all the content as a blog format. so for example here is the category section in blog format. http://www.in2town.co.uk/news/ryaniar-news Now i have managed to make sure that the articles are not showing but it brings up the title of the pages and i am worried that this will be seen as duplicate content and will damage the main page of http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News I may have set everything up wrong i am not sure but if i have i would be glad if someone can tell me the right way to do it. I do not like the blog format and that is why i use a front page set up so i can have my layout the way i want it. Can anyone please explain if my set up will damage the main ryanair news page or what i need to do to sort it out please.

If we use content copied from another site ( assuming we have not plagerized), does it hurt our Google Rankings?
We have permission from another company to copy their content and use it on our site. This happens when we are describing a manufacturer's product and we copy pages from their site and add these pages to our site in order to describe the product we are selling. Is this considered duplicate content? Can this practice hurt us?

Does this count as Copied Content ?
Hi, we are publishing news on our website blog. In the news we use excerpts from other websites but do mention the source like "according to XYZ news source" etc. Does it count as copied content as sometime copyscape shows alsmot 30% duplicated content due to inclusion of references from different sources in our news stories ? Regards, shahzad

Who gets credit for content
Does it really matter if somebody takes your content changes it slightly and republishes it? This is my original article on history of house paints which was also published on ezine in Feb. and from google alerts I discovered this page http://www.franklinpainting.com/blog/home/a-brief-history-of-house-painting/ a minimally modified version. It is not easy to create content so these folks just copied and made a blog post. Their are now many versions of this on the web..who wins?
