New ecommerce site: Close old site and full domain redirect or keep it linking to new site?
-
We have rebranded and are working on our new site (B). Our old site (A) has a much higher domain/page authority than our new site.
Currently we have the original Site A still there, with all links/pages pointing to the new Site B when people click.
I am unsure whether we'd be best to close down the Site A completely and do a full domain redirect to Site B.
Site A: 10 years age and has a moderate amount of links to it.
Homepage - PA: 24 DA:11Site B: 6 months age, few links
Homepage - PA: 1 DA:2My concern with the full domain redirect is that the indexed/ranking pages would dissapear. The benefit is less brand confusion for our niche range of party accessories.

The biggest decision here is whether or not you want to continue to maintain two separate websites--or if it's better to spend your time building one brand and concentrating on one website.
When it comes to links, Domain Authority, and Page Authority, you can easily 301 redirect the old site to the new one--so that really shouldn't be a concern. It's the overall decision of maintaining and building two sites and two brands--rather than one.

Hi David,
If you're planning to switch to the new domain, I would recommend you to not close the existing domain but redirect all the pages to their equivalent pages on the new domain. Please note, relevance is the most important factor here from SEO perspective. Gradually, all your indexed pages will be replaced by their corresponding new pages (ranking might not be the same though).
Also, keep an eye on search console for the domain A as well. This will give you an idea on how many pages are still breaking and then you can quickly fix them or, redirect to their corresponding new pages.
P.S Of course you'll loose your domain authority here, but if its a business decision, this is how you can handle it the best way I believe.
Hope this helps!

Ecommerce web design read more toggle vs menu link on home page and product pages
Hello, We have an Ecommerce store. We have a lot of content on the home page and product pages and we are going back and forth between which one to use between a toggle "Read More" "Show Less" toggle for each section and a anchor linked menu. We have long product pages We're thinking a read more toggle is more appropriate for category descriptions so that they can go at the top of the category and not take up space. But the read more toggle with lots of content scrolls the page down and doesn't scroll it back up when you hit "show less" We're leaning towards a linked menu for the home pages and product pages for this reason, but an accordion type set of toggles would look nicer. What do you recommend, and how have you set up your read more toggles if they have lots of info so that they are not confusing? Are there other options? ' Not looking for code (I can do that) I'm looking for ideas on the cleanest home page, category pages, and product pages when they have tons and tons of textual content. Wanting to trim it up and make it look compact and neat! Thanks!

Is having a site map page necessary?
Hello all! So I know having a sitemap XML file is important to include in your robots.txt file. I also know it is important to submit your XML sitemap to Google and Bing. However, I am wondering if it is beneficial for your site's SEO value to have a sitemap page displayed on your website? Or is this just a redundant action if you have already done the above two actions with your XML sitemap? Thanks in advance!

Is WP okay for E commerce sites?
Do any of you out there use wordpress for an ecommerce site? I'm getting some mixed reviews on it (but it's the internet, so that's bound to happen). Is there any sort of site traffic or page limit that would make using wordpress a bad idea? Thanks, Ruben

Best Practices for home page design for ecommerce website
I know this question is not directly related to SEO, but I figured I have been getting some good help from this forum, so why not? The website is www.vrtack.com. I am looking to redesign the home page. It is an ecommerce website selling equestrian clothing and leather goods. My goals are: 1. Reduce the very high bounce rate and drop-off rate. 2. Fine tune the relevancy of the website towards a handful of keyword phrases. 3. Engage the visitor to create better click-through and to increase the average time spent on the page/site. 4. Page Loading time is of importance. It has to load quickly. I would love to hear some specific suggestions, examples, best practices.
