Adwords - Mobile Checkbox
-
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to optimize my adwords campaigns and have been pondering how to handle the checkbox for "Mobile" on the standard Text Ads. (My ecommerce website is fully responsive.)
If i want to create 1 Ad for each ad group and have that ad displayed on desktops as well as mobile devices, should i be checking the "Mobile" checkbox?
Is it best practice to create 2 ads per ad group that are identical except have 1 with Mobile checked and 1 without?
Please let me know how you guys typically set this up.
Thanks

Hi,
An update on this since it came up in a recent conversation. Google reps seem to be saying now that for best performance it is wise to have two text ads in each group one with the mobile checkbox enabled and one without (assuming a single campaign / ad group aimed at all devices). They can be identical in all other aspects, although they do not have to be.
The reasoning being that the adwords system will give a kind of 'bonus' to mobile specific text ads for searches done on mobile devices which may result in better position, reduced cpc etc for mobile searches. If you do not set up ad groups like this then your non mobile ads will continue to show on all devices but it is worth testing to see if the above setup brings better results for mobile queries!

Hi,
I'm completely agreed with what Google adwords specialist suggest you. I'm using the same technique for my campaign and it works perfectly fine.
If you don't have mobile specific url like m.example.com and your site is mobile responsive as you mentioned I would suggest you to do the same . I also have mobile responsive ecommerce site and following the same.
Thanks

i happen to agree with you!

Really?? Well their documentation in the link above says the opposite and all text ads I have ever set up without the mobile box checked have shown just fine across all devices. I am going to stick with my answer anyway, but what can I say if a google rep says otherwise!

Thanks Lynn - I just did a live chat with a google adwords specialist and they said that i should check "Mobile" for every ad if it is meant to be displayed on all devices...
Are you sticking with your answer even though Google disagrees?
Thanks for your help

Hi,
If you want to have one ad that displays on both desktop and mobile do NOT check the mobile box. This check box is used to indicate that the ad is to be 'preferred' for mobile devices in relation to other ads of the same type (ie text ads) in the same ad group. Google does not recommend having ad groups with only mobile optimized ads in them saying they may show up on desktop and tablet searches anyway.
So if you want to create text ads that show across all devices simply create them as normal and do not check the mobile box. If you want to have a text ad that has different wording for mobile users (lots of reasons why you might want to do this) then best practice is to create at least two text ads, one for desktop/tablet and one for mobile (with the mobile box checked). You can see what devices each ad has been shown on by selecting the 'Device' option from the Segment drop down in the ads tab to get exact numbers of impressions, clicks, CTR etc for each ad.

Finding Average Session Duration for AdWords Campaigns
Happy Holidays Mozzers! Does anyone know how to view 'Average Session Duration' for AdWords campaigns? I can't seem to be able to add it within the AdWords platform and when i try and view it on Analytics, the #/visits isn't matching the #/visits I see when I try and review the campaign via AdWords. Any help on this issue would be great! Thanks for reading!

How do YOU do an AdWords Audit?
Audits Audits Audits! I am overhauling my AdWords Audit Process and the Documentation and I was wondering if any generous souls our there mind sharing a few ideas or learnings that they have had along the way? I aim to make it as thorough but as quick and automated (think scripts) as possible. I'm also 14 pages into the documentation that I will use for some audits that include explanations, recommendations & definitions. I'd love to hear your opinions on what to Audit, how to audit and how to report on it 🙂

AdWords Different Budgets on Different Days
I have a single campaign and this is what I want. Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri to have a budget of $270 per day
Paid Search Marketing | | UnderRugSwept
Wed to have a budget of $324 per day
Sat, Sun to have a budget of $432 per day Currently, the only way I can see to do this is to have three separate campaigns, which is very disagreeable. Please tell me there's something I'm overlooking. Thanks0 -
OK to have a modal pop-up on an AdWords landing page?
We're about to launch an AdWords campaign targeting users who are searching for hand-crafted furniture. The website we're sending users to has a large inventory of furniture, and all if it is hand-crafted. But there currently is no page on the site specifically communicating that all the furniture on the site is hand-crafted. So, rather than dump the user right into browsing the inventory, we want to put an intermediate step in place to say, in essence, "Hey, welcome, yes, we have lots of handcrafted furniture. In fact, all of it is hand-crafted. Here, have a look around." The art director on the project is suggesting that a modal pop-up would be perfect for this scenario. It would greet the user, who could then dismiss the pop-up and move into the site. I have two concerns about using a modal, though: Does a modal violate Google's policy against pop-ups that open new windows? Assuming we trigger the modal using Javascript, will AdsBot have any trouble crawling the content of the modal, such that it could hurt the landing page component of our quality score?

Why are my Adwords Total Estimated Conversions Less than My Phone Call Conversions?
I'm having an issue with tracking some conversions in adwords. Google Adwords is saying I have 20 estimated total conversions in an account and 26 phone conversions. Adwords is saying that the phone conversions are included in the total, so I am confused as to how the part is having a higher total than the sum. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks!

Adwords & Analytics Different Product Listing Results
Hi We have recently set up a Product Listings ad campaign via AdWords and have seen some impressive initial figures in our AdWords account. However, when viewing data from the same period in Analytics it shows completely different statistics. For example, from 1st-16th June, AdWords shows 604 clicks and 29 conversions from our Product Listings campaign but Google Analytics only shows 23 clicks and 0 conversions across the same period. Any ideas why these variations show? Is there any additional tracking code that needs to be inserted at all? Thanks

Adwords: Brand ads appear bottom of SERPs
Hello, I'm running a sale promotion on a brand only Adwords campaign (I have the only account with trademark authorization) and have noticed that my ads are appearing at the bottom of the first page on Google. This happened last week so I split the campaign into three Adgroups and that fixed the problem but today I'm running brand only and there is no way to separate them. CPC has also increased dramatically. Normally it's less than 10 cents and now it's sitting at between $2-$4. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas/advice on how to stop this happening? It's playing havoc with my CTR and conversions. Much thanks,

Linking Adwords to Analytics for Multiple Clients
what is the best practice for this? Right now everything is under many different passwords and logins, yet conforming them all to one comes with a bunch of loopholes and bumps along the way. Does anyone know how to get a few clients under the same username and password (linking the AdWords and Analytics for each of them)?
