Hi - I have a question about IP addresses
-
- would it hurt link juice to host a blog on a different server to the rest of your website?
I have a web host saying they can't run Wordpress as they won't support PHP for "security reasons" - one solution would be to set up Wordpress on a different server and redirect domain.com/blog there (I presume this is do-able?).
But I don't know if that affects the SEO adversely?
-
Thank you, that gives me a lot of clarity
-
Not really. As big as this site sounds, attempting to do so would probably pose a security risk to your website (as an IT professional I can think of a few ways this could work, but all involve exposing the main server in ways I would cringe at). The subdomain has the fewest questions overall.

Thanks Egol - this website took over a year to build and cost 7 figures to build, so not so simple I'm afraid. (It's integrated with stock controls in a shop and warehouse and all sorts)
-
This issue can be cleanly solved by placing this site on a different hosting service.
That's what I would do instead of rigging-up complex ways of doing something simple.
-
Really not a problem - thank you for responding
-
Thanks Highland - ironically that's the exact setup at the moment - a wordpress.com blog hosted on a subdomain!
So my idea was to move it to a subfolder for better SEO - then the hosts chipped in with their refusal to run PHP.
This is in a high-competition niche where every detail can make a difference.
I guess you're saying it's impossible to have a WP (.org) site hosted elsewhere and pointed at the URL domain.com/blog ?
-
It depends a bit. In order to host on a different site you'll have to have a different domain or subdomain. That will let it live under a different IP. The IP thing isn't an issue but the different domain might be. I would try to get it under a subdomain of your main domain (i.e. blog.domain.com) so bots can at least see there's a relationship there. The catch here is that your subdomain is not going to pass as much juice to your main site as if it lived under domain.com/blog (where it's part of the same domain).
You don't have to host your own blog incidentally. Check out wordpress.com where, for a fee, they will map a domain to your blog. It's the safest way to host Wordpress, since they update it and secure the servers.
-
sorry for the mistake.
-
Ah OK, that's a much happier thing to hear! Thank you
-
Damn it. I've had a typo . IT WONT AFFECT YOUR SEO.
I'm just editing the first reply. Sorry
-
Thanks Gaston, much appreciated and as I feared.
I'm feeling a bit stuck as to what to do here then. I want to run Wordpress (principally for the ease of client use and the Yoast SEO plugin), but the hosts simply won't allow PHP.
So if a different server / IP number isn't a solution, I wonder if there is any way I haven't thought of to run Wordpress in an effective manner as a subfolder of the site? Or perhaps an alternative to WP that has great SEO - the hosts say they run "web servers with .Net applications hosted on them using IIS "
Does anybody have any ideas?
-
Hi there.
No, it won't affect you SEO.
Hope it helps.
GR.

IP Redirect causing Indexing Issue
Hi, I am trying to redirect any IP from outside India that comes to Store site (https://store.nirogam.com/) to Global Store site (https://global.nirogam.com/) using this methodThis is causing various indexing issues for Store site as Googlebot from US also gets redirected!- Very few pages for "store.nirogam.com/products/" are being indexed. Even after submission of sitemap it indexed ~50 pages and then went back to 1 page etc. Only ~20 pages indexed for now.- After this I tried manually indexing via "Crawl -> Fetch as Google" - but then it showed me a redirect to global.nirogam.com. All have their "status -> Redirected" - This is why bots are not able to index the site. What are possible solutions for this? How can we tell bots to index these pages and not get redirected? Will a popup method where we ask user if they are outside India help in solving this issue? All approaches/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Google Enterprise Search Questions
Hi Everybody, A client has asked me to take a look at Google Enterprise Search for them. It has been a few years since I last fooled around with implementing a Google search box on a website, and that was the free version which included off-site results in the results. This appears to be the main page describing the paid product: http://www.google.com/enterprise/search/ I have three questions: The search testing function on the above page doesn't seem to be working. I'm typing in a URL and search term, as prompted, and the page is simply refreshing. It never provides me an example set of results. Is it working for you? This client has a moderately large e-commerce site (about 200 products). Have you implemented Google enterprise search on such a site and are you happy with its performance? The goal here is to let users search for a topic and be returned both product and informational pages. How well does this tool do this? Am I going to need to know any special types of coding (beyond html/css) to implement this? If so, what are they? If you have experience with this product, I would surely appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

IP address URLs being indexed, 301 to domain?
I apoligize if this question as been asked before, I couldnt' find in the Q&A though. I noticed Google has been indexing our IP address for some pages (ie: 123.123.123.123/page.html instead of domain.com/page.html). I suspect this is possibly due to a few straggler relative links instead of absolute, or possibly something else I'm not thinking of. My less-evasive solution a few months back was to ensure canonical tags were on all pages, and then replaced any relative links w/ absolutes. This does not seem to be fixing the problem though, as recently as today new pages were scooped up with the IP address. My next thought is to 301 redirect any IP address URL to the domain, but I was afraid that may be too drastic and that the canonical should be sufficient (which it doesn't seem to be). Has anyone dealt with this issue? Do you think the 301 would be a safe move, any other suggestions? thanks.

Can search engines penalize my site if I block IPs from some countries?
I have spotted that some countries in South America generate lot's of traffic on my site and I don't want to sell my service there. Can I be penalized for blocking IPs from certain counties? Thanks!
