Help, no organic traffic recovery after new site launch (it's been 6 months)!
-
I worked with a team of developers to launch a new site back in March. I was (and still am) in charge of SEO for the site, including combining 4 sites into 1. I made sure 301 redirects were in place to combine the sites and pretty much every SEO tactic I can think of to make sure the site would maintain rankings following launch. However, here we are 6 months later and YoY numbers are down -70% on average for organic traffic.
Anyone mind taking a look at http://www.guestguidepublications.com and seeing if there's a glaring mistake I'm missing?!?!?! Thanks ahead of time!

Are you able to upload the back links or would you like me to grab the back links for your site?
Then run it through deep crawl we can see if the old back links match and make them match if needed?
I would love to see the deep crawl result. remember deep crawl will help you as well
Hope this is of help,
Tom

Yes, before we combined the sites into one site, it was divided into the following URLs:
The last one brought in the most traffic. The last 3 were more focused on content and the audience was visitors to the that particular town. The first one was more for selling the publication to other towns. We combined all of them with into one and the focus was to concentrate on content and have the site mainly for visitors to the areas, but a section to sell the publication too. Because this is a publication, writing consistent, unique content is no issue, and they've been very good at getting new content out since the new launch.
Before the new site launch, there were no penalties or warnings, and the sites were all ranking well. The core reason for combining the sites was to make it easier to maintain and put a focus towards content.

I've actually been to Winter Park, Florida - great place! I thought about it perhaps being the nature of the business. It was only after the last 2 months that I've had YoY data, but I can still see that it's -70% YoY, which is a bit scary; however, with it being seasonal, losing just one or two links could be detrimental.

I've never heard of DeepCrawl, but I set-up a trial and am currently running the site through it. I'll let you know what turns up! Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Annapurna,
Can you please brief up a bit about your old domain situation, ie was there any penality or anywarning to that domain. Secondly, was the old domain ranking at the time.
Secondly, why did you decide to redirect to the new domain. what was the core reason. I think, after getting this i would be able to help you in batter way
I also left a message for ,I hope to hear back from you soon. -
Your backlinks do not redirect if you change the domain or you lost a lot of backLink
http://d.pr/i/1kjWw+ Your site is not mobile friendly on all of the URLs.
It could also be the nature of your business. I'm in Winter Park Florida small world

I will do an audit using DeepCrawl if you like ?
I'll have a look at everything that's going on but I would need access to the analytics in order to actually tell you anything that would be very extremely helpful .

Breaking up a site into multiple sites
Hi, I am working on plan to divide up mid-number DA website into multiple sites. So the current site's content will be divided up among these new sites. We can't share anything going forward because each site will be independent. The current homepage will change to just link out to the new sites and have minimal content. I am thinking the websites will take a hit in rankings but I don't know how much and how long the drop will last. I know if you redirect an entire domain to a new domain the impact is negligible but in this case I'm only redirecting parts of a site to a new domain. Say we rank #1 for "blue widget" on the current site. That page is going to be redirected to new site and new domain. How much of a drop can we expect? How hard will it be to rank for other new keywords say "purple widget" that we don't have now? How much link juice can i expect to pass from current website to new websites? Thank you in advance.

A client rebranded a few years ago and doesn't want to be associated with it's old brand name. He wishes not to appear when the old brand is searched in Google, is there something we can do?
The problem is there was redirection between the old branded site and the new one, and now when you type in the name of the old brand, the new one comes up. I have desperately tried to convince this client there is nothing we can do about it, dozens of news articles crop up with the two brands together as this was a hot topic a few years ago, but just in case I missed something I thought I'd ask the community of experts here on Moz. An example for this would be Tyco Healthcare that became covidien in 2007. When you type tyco healthcare, covidien crops up here and there. Any ideas? Thanks!

Unexplained Drop In Ranking and Traffic-HELP!
I operate a real estate web site in New York City (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com). It was hit by Penguin in April 2012, with search volume falling from 6,800 per month in March 2012 to 3,300 by June 2012. After refreshing content and changing the theme, volume recovered to 4,300 per month in October 2013. There was a big improvement in early October 2013, perhaps tied to a Panda update. In November 2013 I hired an SEO company. They are reputable; on MOZ's recommended list. After following all their suggestions (searching and removing duplicate content, disavowing toxic links, improving the site structure to make it easier for Google to index listings, re-writing ten key landing pages, improving the design of the user interface) ranking and traffic started to decline in April of 2014 and crashed in June 2014 after an upgraded design with improved user interface was launched. Search volume is went from 4700 in March to around 3800 in June. However ranking on the keywords that generate conversions has really declined, and clicks from those terms are down at least 65%. My online business is severely compromised after I have spent almost double the anticipated budget to improve ranking and conversion. A few questions: 1. Could a drop in the number of domains lining to our site have led to this decline? About 30 domains that had toxic links to us agreed to remove them. We had another 70 domains disavowed in late April. We only have 78 domains pointing to our domain now, far less than before (see attached AHREFs image). It seems there is a correlation in the timeline between the number of domains pointing to us and ranking performance. The number of domains pointing to us has never been this low. Could this be causing the drop? My SEO firm believes that the quality of these links are very low and the fact that many are gone is in fact a plus. 2. The number of indexed pages has jumped to 851 from 675 in early June (see attached image from Google Webmaster tools), right after a site upgrade. The number of pages in the site map is around 650. Could the indexation of the extra 175 page somehow have diluted the quality of the site in Google's eyes? We have filed removal request for these pages in Mid June and again last week with Google but they still appear. In 2013 we also launched an upgrade and Google indexed an extra 500 pages (canonical tags were not set up correctly) and search volume and ranking collapsed. Oddly enough when the number of pages indexed by Google fell, ranking improved. I wonder if something similar has occurred. 3. May 2014 Panda update. Many of our URLs are product URLs of listings. They have less than 100 words. Could Google suddenly be penalizing us for that? It is very difficult to write descriptions of hundreds of words for products that change quickly. I would think the Google takes this into account. If someone could present some insight into this issue I would be very, very grateful. I have spent over $25,000 on SEO reports, wireframe design and coding and now find myself in a worse position than when I started. My SEO provider is now requesting that I purchase even more reports for several thousand dollars and I can't afford it, nor can I justify it after such poor results. I wish they would take it upon themselves to identify what went wrong. In any case, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I am very suspicious that this drop started in earnest at the time of link removal and the disavow and accelerated at the time of the launch of the upgrade. What's next?
What's next with the tool? For SEOmoz users that have gotten their Crawl Diagnostics and On-Page issues under control, what's next? In other words, what do long-time SEOmoz users do with the tool? What ongoing weekly value do they get? Ranking reports? Link Analysis? It took me four weeks to resolve all my simple issues, which you can see in Crawl Diagnostics and On-Page reports. (It would have only take one week, if the tool crawled all my pages upon demand instead of only once a week.) But now that all my simple issues are resolved, I'm not sure what else to do with the tool. I don't want to hastily cancel the service, but I also don't know what else to do... I'd even pay more for an actual human to look in on me from time to time and tell me what to do next. But I'm self-motivating, so I'll try to figure it out.

Clone sites at new company
I just came in house to our company for SEO. We have one main site and 182 that are exact duplicates and almost exact clones of the main site. It's no surprise that half of these clones are deindexed already. The meta tags are just the domain name URL. I want to add unique text on the home page to each site, fix the meta tags and switch them up so they aren't clones. Other than a huge rewrite of the code for each site, I'm not sure what else to do to prevent the rest from getting deindexed. Is there any way to prevent the rest from getting deindexed?
