Advanced Twitter Searching - Is this possible?

Hi
Is it possible within Twitter or Hootsuite to locate users who for example have announced they have recently become engaged or mention Valentines within a certain geographic area such as London that I could use to target them with tweets which would be of interest to them
-
Hi Tom
That's great thanks for the reply
Are there any other tools that would give me social insights into local niche trends in Twitter? to target users who are actively discussing certain topics

There certainly is! But bear with me, this may take awhile.
You can do this through RSS feeds, I recommend using Firefox for this.
First of all, let's start with this URL: http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=valentine%20OR%20valentines&lang=en
This will find tweets containing the words "valentine" OR "valentines" and only includes tweets in English.
Now, you can add a geocode to this. First of all, visit this site: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html
Next, zoom in to the location you want and left-click to drop a little pin. Click on this pin and you should get the latitude and longitude coordinates. For London, this is: 51.505323,-0.12085
Now you can add that geolocation to the URL above, so it becomes:
[http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=valentine OR valentines**&geocode=51.505323,-0.12085,20km&**lang=en](search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=valentine OR valentines&geocode=51.505323,-0.12085,20km&lang=en)
You can see you just need to add &geocode=, insert the geocode you got before - then add a comma plus something like 10km, 20km etc. This km serves your radius, so this feed looks at tweets containing "valentine OR "valentines" sent from London and a 20km surrounding radius (in English)
That's all there is to it! You can experiment with keyword variations, such as valentines AND day, you can add negative keywords, meaning you can remove certain words such as valentines -card - basically many Google search queries will work in this feed as well. And the reason I recommend firefox is because you can type in your URL with spaces, meaning you don't have to put in %20 and so on. Here's what I mean:
Hope this helps, happy twittering!

My question is in regards to possible conflict in creating an additional website under a new domain for our company.
Our companies, Vulcan Information Packaging and ATC both live under the domain “www.binders.com”. This is a great thing as far as us dominating in the binder industry. However, in the next 2-3 years and forward, we want to build our presence as a company who offers packaging products such as boxes, marketing kits, and other forms of packaging. Obviously, the “binders.com” brand/domain does not contribute much to this effort and can be confusing to customers visiting the site. Essentially, we want to build an additional branding for our company in the packaging industry. Keeping this in mind, we own the domain “www.vulcaninformationpackaging.com” and we are considering building a new website using this domain which contains the word “packaging”. This new site would only promote and contain packaging related products. This new website will advertise and direct traffic to our company Vulcan Information Packaging, which is the same company “binders.com” directs traffic to. So my question is to determine whether doing this might be a practice that Google and other search engines might frown upon. I tend to think it will be fine because we will be promoting and driving traffic for non-binder products where as, binders.com is heavily in binder related products. thank you, Dominic Zaidan

Two companies merging into a new website. How to merge two existing websites into a brand new website and preserve search rankings.
Brand A and Brand B are merging to form Brand C. Brand A has a great search presence (prominent rankings, answer boxes, and impressive organic traffic). Brand B has a good reputation in real life but their web presence was extremely weak (we've been helping with that over the past few months and it is improving). What are the steps we need to take? The previous domains from Brand A and Brand B are going away and we need to promote the newly minted Brand C website. This Q/A summarizes what we want to do but with one exception: They only discuss merging Brand A into BRand B and there is no Brand C.

Does having a lot traffic off branded search terms boost non-branded terms?
A site I work for has tons of organic traffic coming from branded terms like BRAND, www.brand.com, BRAND + Product, BRAND + question, etc. They also have a lot of non-branded terms, coming through. Overall a strong site. I've also seen websites for lawyers on TV with plenty of spammy links, almost no good ones, but nonetheless they rank well for their terms. My intuition says these are related, that the more people search for your brand, the more Google recognizes your authority relative to your keywords. Is this possible, or am I misguided?

A competitor has a search term in their brand name - Can we outrank them for that search term?
Hi Mozzers, I have been putting a lot of work into ranking for a certain search term. We have managed to get our homepage to #3 for that search term. #1 is a comparison site, so I am not overly fussed with beating them - we probably won't. But we do want to hit #2 and in all fairness, we have better content and have put more into our SEO efforts than the current #2. I think they are ranking so strongly because their brand name is exactly that search term with the word "go" in front of it. Google even spits out their extra links under the result as if it was a branded result. I know EMD's don't hold much weight any more so I'm guessing this is all to do with their clever brand name choice. My question is, can you outrank a competitor like that? If you're selling wooden rocking horses and your company is called toybox.com for example, but your competitor is called GoWoodenRockingHorses and their domain is www.gowoodenrockinghorses.com, can toybox.com ever outrank them for the search term "wooden rocking horses"? Hope this makes sense, please private mail me for more info if you need it! Cheers, Jamie

Spam in search engine results for company brand name
Hi, I'm having a strange problem with a certain comapny. When you Google their brand name the first 8 results or so are related - their site, Google+ page, Twitter etc. The rest of the results are completely unrelated to the site and much of it is in another language and looks really spammy. According to the site owner until recently the first 50-60 results were related - mostly local results, press releases, and franchise companies listing his business. They don't have a great link profile but that shouldn't have them dropping out of the results, especially since they're still ranking in the top 1-8 positions. Here's the strangest part: the company name is Libertana. All the spammy results are not so much spammy, they're related to the syllable "na". Examples: Ivanyukite-Na Mineral Data įt$koka!na's sounds on SoundCloud - Hear the world's sounds Bosiniya na Herizegovina - Wikipedia What on earth is going on? Why would they rank for the last syllable of their name?

Best Way To Get Twitter Followers
What does the forum think the best way to get Twitter Followers is? I'm talking from the perspective from a fairly unknown brand where there's no obvious reason for someone to follow.
