Migrating login page from website: SEO impact
-
Our current login page looks like www.website.com/log-in/. We are planning to migrate it to a sub directory login.website.com. For years, our login page is the top landing with highest visits after homepage. If we migrate this now, are we going to loose traffic and drop in rankings?
Thanks

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what your question is. The subdomain will still be under your domain. It will be the same website but a part of it will be on a different server. The traffic will count for the domain. Even if Google would see this subdomain as a different site (which I don't will be) you still don't have what to worry about because you would have used 301 redirects and all the links will point to the new subdomain. So all you really have to do is change all the links that you can (which lead to the login page) and then do a 301 redirect from the old one to the new one. This is safe in terms of SEO and you don't have to worry about losing your position in the SERPs. Hope this helps!

Apologies, I'm not entirely sure of got your point. Do you mean you want the URL locked away so only a favoured few can access it? I.e. not a general website login.
If you use 301s highly likely Google will find the new login page, If that answers your query?
One point like to throw in here that a penetration tester will tell you that obscurity isn't security. Meaning that just puting the login form on another URL/Website/IP won't increase the security very much, if at all, especially if someone is determined.

We meant to move the login page to dedicated server away from website for security concerns. So login.website.com sub-domain will no more part of our website. I wonder the traffic to this separate page counts into website. Will 301 redirect will make sure the traffic to login page count as our website traffic?

If you 301 properly and phrase the page properly with text and tags it shouldn't be a problem, you may see an initial drop but should recover again.
With branded queries you are normally pretty safe, especially if you have a strong online presence.
Subdomains can cause a bit of a headache if they're not done right, there seems to be a bit of a trend to move away from subdomains of late in favour of putting everything on one domain. Google will sometimes see subdomains as a separate website.

You might drop in rankings in process of site migration. It depends how well the migration is conducted. Make sure to change as many of those links leading to www.website.com/log-in/ as you can. Where you have a link to www.website.com/log-in/, change it to login.website.com to avoid too many 301's on your website. Also, you should have a good reason for migration to subdomains because you will loose domain authority. Subdomains are treated as a new different websites with zero DA and you need to build it again.

No If you use 301 redirection you are not going to loose traffic and drop ranking because it is your brand related query and you will always appears on top.
In your case users query might be like this yout brandname + login and other similar search queries.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi! Don't worry. As long as you implement the redirects correctly, you will not have a problem. "A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website." Read more here -> https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection.

Weird Layout on Initial Website Load?
Whenever I open my site from an uncached source, like google incognito, for a split second it displays purple links and a white background while it loads the rest of the content. I've included a screenshot. Is there any way to fix that.? The site is www.kemprugegreen.com. u8P9q

Moving servers which means moving ip address but using the same URL. Would it harm the website's SEO?
Hello everyone, The server (in-house) which we use to host our website is a bit old. We are using CDN77 for our static content. What if I move all our website to the CDN service? meaning I use their storage capability and just have our url point to the IP address they provide. Would that hurt our rankings?

Responsive image plugins and seo / crawlability
Note : For the background of this question please read the preface below. Ive been researching responsive image options the main issue i can see with them is that they are not semantic html so bots may not index them correctly. For instance many of the responsive image plugins use data-src for an image rather than src. Does any one have any experience with this and if it impacts on SEO ? Does any one know of a client side responsive image soltion that uses a normal img tag with the image stored in the src and with the option to set an alt attribute ? **Preface : ** Ive got a site we are currently developing, the site has a large full width responsive image slider. To serve images that wont be pixilated we are making the width of the images 1800px wide (which should cover most screens, but isn't actually big enough if the site was viewed on a 27" imac) these 1800px wide images weight about 350kb - 500kb per image and our image slider has about 20 of them. As you can see this would be a problem for anyone with a connection slower than c.10 mbps. This is especially true for mobile devices that will be downloading an image 1800px wide although only require a much smaller one, this coupled with a 3g connection will make the site really slow.

Funnel tracking with one page check-out?
Hi Guys, I'm creating a new website with a one page checkout that follows the following steps:
Web Design | | Jerune
1. Check availability
2. Select product
2. Select additional product & Add features
3. Provide personal information
4. Order & Pay I'm researching if it is possible to track all these steps (and even steps within the steps) with Google Analytics in order to analyse checkout abandonment. The problem is only that my one-page checkout has only one URL (I want to keep it that way) and therefore can not be differentiated on URL in the Analytics funnel. To continue to the next step also the same button (in a floating cart) in used to advance. The buttons to select/choose something within one step are all different. Do you guys know how I can set this up and how detailed I can make this? For example, is it also possible to test at which field visitors leave when for example filling in their personal information? Would be great if you can help me out!0 -
What seo benefit does setting up a photo gallery where each photo is a separate web page?
what seo benefit does setting up a photo gallery where each photo is a separate web page? My old SEO guy set up my photo gallery like that claiming that because each photo was a separate page, it added a big seo benefit and i never understood what he was talking about. Maybe alt text on the photo with key phrases in it pointing to my other pages to give my site a theme for google? I'm not really sure. He has since moved away and i am considering redoing the photo gallery to multiple images on one page to be more user friendly to my users. This photo gallery is 3 years old and the photos might have some page rank to them helping my site so i don't want to remove this gallery if there really is a benefit to it and it will hurt my site. I once removed four static page rank 3 pages from my site that weren't used for my site anymore and my rankings dropped 5 positions. Thoughts anyone? Thanks! Ron

Word Press Seo Errors/ Questions
Hi my name is Tina I am new here I hope you guys can help me out. I thought building my new site with Word Press was going to simplify things, however I have a ton of errors, and I am not sure what they are, or how to fix them. I am hoping someone could share with me a solution for these errors. I have 28 rel=canonical errors, I am not sure what this means, I understand it to mean my pages are similar, and this is to set a heirarchy between my pages. Please correct me if I am wrong. If I am correct would this be necessary to add if my main keyword was "widgets" and my home page was optimized for "widgets" and my next page was "blue widgets" and so on. While my pages are similar they are all optimized for different versions of my main keyword some using long tail keywords. Do you know of a plugin that can help solve this problem? Also does anyone have a plugin they recommend for G+ my G+ authorship verification is causing an error as well? I am using Head Space 2 I have used this seo plugin numerous times with great success it has been my favorite seo plugin. However, we have a portfolio that shows our clients websites, and on those pages Head Space will not let me enter a description tag. What plug in do you guys recommend with more control over each page? Another interesting issue is on one of our pages I optimized it for our Canadian clients, and now every page has been listed in Google.ca for the keywords it should have on Google.com. We are listed on Google maps, verified in Google places, and our address is on the site so they know we're from the USA however, the majority of our keywords are only listed in Google.ca. We're on page one for all of them, we are in the top three on most of them so that's not bad, but we want to be listed in Google.com as well. Any suggestions on this?

Why is this page removed from Google & Bing indices?
This page has been removed from indices at Bing and Google, and I can't figure out why. http://www.pingg.com/occasion/weddings This page used to be in those indices There are plenty of internal links to it The rest of the site is fine It's not blocked by meta robots, robots.txt or canonical URL There's nothing else to suggest that the page is being penalized
