Footer Links when is it to much?
-
Hi, so iv been searching around the internet, and I have come up with the general consensus that footer links that link to external sites are bad? Can anyone verify this statement? Also when do Footer links become spammy, and what is your opinion on site wide footer links?
I have also read that if you are a bigger brand, that you most likely would be able to get away with some more things(such as, linking to external sites) thanks for your help.

Linking to external sites from a footer is not harmful, unless the sites you are linking to are low quality sites.
What can be harmful is receiving a lot of sitewide footer links with exact keyword anchor text. This can be seen as spammy by Google. Footer links & sitewide links in general also don't carry as much weight as in-context links.

Hi Peter,
My opinion on footer links is they should be used for internal site navigation or provide help to the user. Example when I'm on a site I'm not familiar with, I generally expect to find help/contact us in the footer.
Now linking externally you really need to examine the goal behind this sort of link, because it can not only hurt your site, but add to a potential penalty to the site you're linking to.
It hurts your site in 2 ways, one you are diluting your link juice to your own links by passing it to another site, and secondly because footer links are generally on every page you are kind of spamming the link to the search engine.
Since Google's Panda and Penguin updates sites have been receiving penalties for link over optimizing SEO, which includes anchor text from links. Again since footer links are generally site wide you can really rack up anchor spam for the site you're linking to. Granted this gets into negative SEO and there is debate about how this works, but if its controversial I just tend to stay away from it.
Okay all that said, the answer dependent on whether or not the link is going to be sitewide, if it has value on every page you use it on and the overall purpose of the link. If you want to link to a parent website, or subsidiary website, put the link on appropriate pages instead like about us, or company info. If you are linking to something like blog.mywebsite.com you may want to evaluate moving the blog from sub-domain to a directory inside your site, essentially combining the site into 1. Remember sub-domains are treated as different websites.
Finally to answer your question about bigger websites getting away with this sort of thing. Yes, it is true because despite them not worrying about the search engines, the search engine still worries about them, and if they are the most relevant site, the search engine will still want to show its users (searchers) the most relevant site.
Hope that helps,

Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links warning, Should I do something?
Hi, I got: "Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole. " I don't see any dropping at rankings, could the best solution here to be, just to leave everything as it is and be more careful with the link building in the future? Or is there a danger that Google gives further penalties if I don't act on this one do something? I am little afraid that if I start removing links, my rankings will drop, even though they have remained same if don't do anything? Any help is appreciated.

Buy links
I know that many of you are against the whole thing with buying links. Your feelings put aside. Will it be better for my site to buy links or even do link exchange? Haven´t the crawlers been thought by now how to find these untrue links? I have read somewhere that the stop after 100 links, aren´t they smarter than that?

Penguin Recover: Remove links vs Burry Links
The best is to do both. However with those with limited resources, would building more links with branded and naked URL anchor links be a better solution than painstakingly asking every webmaster to remove links.

Links in the Classifieds
We rent apartments. One way we use to find clients is to advertize these apartments in Classifieds. Generally, we use free ads. Sometimes, for very popular sites ( like Kijiji), we pay so our ads can be seen first. Could this be a problem with Google? Some sites send us clients, many of them never do. We keep putting ads there because of their PR. What is the worth of this kind of links? Thanks for your answers.

Links or Redirect?
My client's company has just acquired another company in the same industry and with that acquisition came two websites; companyname.com and companyname.co.uk. companyname.com has PA13 and DA10, companyname.co.uk has PA15 and DA10. At the moment, the two companies are to be run as separate companies but will become fully merged in time. My client's own website is brand new (PA1 and DA) and I'm wondering what is the best way to use these other two sites to improve my client's search ranking. Should I use the two sites to link to my client (these would be logical and natural links e.g. explaining the acquisition, under new management) or would it simply be better to redirect the domains to the new site? Many thanks

Links from Real Estate Websites Link Page, Do or Don't?
It seems that real estate sites have at times been under heavier scrutiny from the search engines. But real estate agents get networking, which makes acquiring those links a little bit easier. Plus with localization of search, I think real estate sites may give off a good GEO scent. Should SEO's go for links from real estate websites? Does a reciprocal link devalue said links?

Page links vs. domain links
Hello all, I am trying to find out how Google weighs page inbound links vs. domain inbound links. I have a domain with about 100,000 inbound links and am adding a new page to my domain which at this time has 0 links. I will be trying to outrank a competitors page that has 6,000 inbound links to the competitors page, but only has 26,000 inbound links to my competitors domain . Is there a formula or a way to know how Google values a page link vs. a domain link?
