Ranking fluctuation

Has anybody got any ideas?
I have a website that ranks quite well for an industry keyword, the site has a reasonable amount of authority. But the term is fluctuating between position 3 and position 9!
It is on a beefy stable server. It is reasonably well optimised from both SEO and speed point of view.
It is tracked using Moz RankTracker.
I do realise that rankings fluctuate, but this is ridiculous!

I believe fluctuations occur because of competition for the target terms. Are you regularly measuring your site to your competitors? I record our position, links, PA/DA monthly with our to 10 competitors, this provides great insight for the "why's" I encounter with our SERP.

It is normal for your position to fluctuate to different spots during certain times of the day. I don't think it is going to be something you can really pin down to a specific aspect of your SEO like you could say a kicker on a pair in Texas Hold'em.
GENERAL FIX FOR FLUCTUATING RANKS:
I've found having premo Infographics, viral topic relevant Youtube Videos created by you from your channel embedded on the money site as well as several dozen other sites, 2-4 thousand words of engaging content linked out to high authorities and internally, and a ridiculous amount inbound links from major International NEWS authorities seems to really drop a 500 pound anchor on position #1

Hi There,
Its a normal problem with Google search, in my personal opinion it can mostly be attributed to personalization of search results. Also after experience with different tools, I have analyzed that none of the tools can show accurate results for SERPs now, they are also misguided by google search. Only results that are consistent most of the times are top 2 or 3 results, but that too again vary based on personalization based on geography, your personal searches etc.

What to do with PDFs that rank well?
Looking at some reports, I found that a client's site has PDFs that are ranking well for niche terms and getting some traffic. What can I do to get more out of them from a marketing standpoint? The obvious issue is that a PDF doesn't have the interactivity of a site visit, where we have analytics and CTAs. Someone has to follow a link back from the PDF to the site for us to even register a visit, let alone try to get their email or have them otherwise convert. My first guess is to make landing page summaries of the PDF content that link to the PDF, and canonical the PDF to the respective landing page. Has anyone tried this, or done something else that they would recommend again in this situation?

My page ranking dropped after I made it responsive
Recently, I made one of my site page responsive. It was ranking on 13th Position and after I made the page responsive, it dropped to 24 desktop and 35 on mobile rankings. I ran mobile friendly test and it said "awesome, your page is mobile friendly". Not sure, what went wrong here. Page in question is: https://www.itcontractorsuk.com/ Can someone please advice? Rankings and keywords
I have a site www.firewall-cs.com that I have been working on for 4 months. The first 2 months the keywords were going up and then...dropped like a rock! We didn't build the website, but it is a Wordpress site so I can make some changes. For the keywords that have "IT" in them, we haven't been able to recover. It's like Google isn't even reading the home page. The home page slider has the H1 in it and has 3. I have told this to the client. Plus there isn't a lot of content on the page. Is the H1 issue enough for the word "IT Support Orlando" to not rank? Any suggestions would help! Thank you.

Does having shorter URLs help with rankings?
Hello here.I own an e-commerce website (virtualsheetmusic.com), and some of our most important category pages have pretty long URLs. Here is an example: http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/downloads/Indici/Violin.html I am evaluating the possibility to shorten URLs like the above to something like: http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/violin/ But since it is going to pretty hard and time consuming (considering the custom system we have in place on that site), I am trying to find out if it really matters and worth doing it from a SEO stand point. I am aware that from a user prospective shorter URLs are preferable, and we plan to pursue a better URL architecture on our website in the near future just for that, but this question, at the moment, should be strictly related to SEO. Any thoughts on this topic are very welcome!

Rankings and search traffic fell off a cliff
Hi Moz community, One of my clients has a beast of a website built in ASP.NET (which causes me problems cos I don't have much experience in that) It is a job-site that aggregates job opportunities from other job-sites and provides a job matching service by email etc. They used to have great presence on Google naturally for thousands of job searches. Since Penguin and Penguin 2.0 (I think) their traffic has fallen off a cliff. I have been doing some "off-page" experimentation, seeing if we can fix a lot of issues by re-sculpting their backlink profile (seeing as it was after penguin). but what I have found is that some pages respond to this off page work but some just do not at all, despite how we approach it, such as disavowing previous links building fresh new top quality content links with natural anchor text etc.... Which has lead me to the conclusion that the wider issue is on-page and potentially site structure. Unfortunately as it is ASP.NET I am not so comfortable diagnosing the issues. I think also some issues will be related to dupe content etc.... but I would LOVE to get some input from my learned Moz colleagues. Can re-directs decrease your rankings??

Is there something wrong with my rank?
So I have blog with 5 posts. I don't know why but 1 of my posts rank higher than my main page...and it's not even trying to rank for the keyword. I'm not saying it's a bad thing because the post has some amazon on it but my main site is supposed to rank higher. Something wrong?

Social Media - big ranks it seems from it
Hi there, one of our big competitors is ranking first for a huge key term. We were wondering how they did it, so i went through normal processes: Age of domain - reasonable. Unique content - a little but the ranking page has pretty much none - meaning panda update isn't applying here, Back-links - nothing special really, not enough to be above everyone in my opinion. Then i had a look at social media shares, over 2,000 mainly as facebook shares. So i went on their facebook profile and it does not seem like they are spamming content on there. Are these shares from users sharing the link? if so can i find out how many per post? i imagine there is a team setup to share this content when it is published on their facebook page? It just seems so very unfair they are ranking number one like this, the content in their site is poor, it's not a relevant domain either. So much for panda update eh? Any thoughts appreciated.
