Why do bots spam my wordpress blog comments?

anyone with a wordpress blog knows what i am talking about. but why do they do this? my theory is that it is for backlinks, but aren't all wordpress comment links nofollow? i am just curious as to what these robots think they are gaining by flooding my blog comments section.

Hope this clarifies the issue.
I conduct SEO Audits, I check the work done by other SEO practitioners. Therefore, I understand that many websites' owners or managers do not differentiate a dofollow from a nofollow link nor a low spam score link from a high spam score link. That's why some link builders show/deliver those useless links to their clients, and clients are very happy at first.
Also, there are plugins for remove the nofollow in WP comments and replace it for dofollow as well as some hackers can change that, you do not notice it, unless you check for an odd plugin and/or changes in the code.

How do I get rid of these nofollow backlinks from 1 comment I made?
I wrote a comment on another blog and now every single time that blog posts an article, it comes up as a nofollow backlink in OpenExplorer. It is really annoying to see when I check for new follow backlinks. I just wrote ONE comment on ONE blog post. How can I stop this? There are at least 10 showing up today! Thanks!

Removing spam back links (Using GWM and SEOMOZ)
Hi, I have noticed that I have got some unwanted spammy back-links. I want to get rid of them. From what I read on Internet, there are two ways to doing it. Using disavow tool in GWM. Contacting individual webmaster and asking them to remove the mentions or links. I have already added the links in the disavow tool and Google has accepted the request. Is it necessary to ask those webmasters to remove the link as well?

How can I optimize the Wordpress "read more" link?
What is the correct way to work with “read more” links in Wordpress? I have a Wordpress blog where I use in each post a read more link (posts with long content), in other words, in the home page each post has two links to the full post, this is good for the usability of my blog. I show actually 10 posts on the home page, this results in 10 links of post title and 10 links of read more = 20 links. I have 10 repeated links on the home page. My read more links have customized text, links to the permalink without #more, links dofollow. In this way that I’m using read more links, Am I diluting the link juice of my blog? Is it correct to use nofollow in internal links trying to manipulate the link juice of my site?

Guest blogging tips needed!
Hi, I'm about to start guest blogging for the first time, I have a particular keyword I want to push up, it currently sits page 2, position 1 and I would like to push this up into the top 5 results. The 5 results I need to jump past also happen to be my main competitors, but I don't think they are activity link building for this keyword as url's are not SEO friendly (containing query strings), meta descriptions don't have the keyword word exact. So the solutions is link building with anchor text links from relevant, auth websites. The method I want to use to achieve this is guest blogging but as I am just starting out on the guest blogging front does anyone have any tips on how to find good blogs which will help? I found a website called myblogguest.com but the blogs on there dont seem that great, I have been doing a few queries in Google to try and find them instead such as; "write for us" keyword then researching the blogs with the SEOMOZ tools. Blog Roll Links - A good or bad thing ?
I Use Blog roll links all the time but recently they seem to be having a lower effect on listings. Is there a limit on Blog roll links you place on a blog. Internal blog roll links and external blog roll links. Also do you rename your blog roll to something such as popular links like we do ?
