Filter By Category bad for seo?
-
Hello Everyone!
I know that a single product should not have filter by color option since it will create duplicate content, and you have to use canonical tags to solve it.
BUT how about sorting through products via category/brands?
Filter by category changes the URL of the General shop page (ex: hello.com/Shop/Category1022039 ). This page only displays the products within, no content/ descriptions etc unlike the original category page(ORIGINAL CATEGORY PAGE) Each of these category/brand already have their own individual pages (ex: hello.com/Shop/A). This is the page that will be optimized for content, FAQ, and ranking etc. Unlike in the url created when filtering through the categories.
So technically I would have 2 URL for each Brand/Category. Would they compete with each other? What would you guys suggest.
Please advise me on this.
Thank You

No, using a "Filter by Category" function on a website is not inherently bad for SEO. In fact, it can actually improve the user experience and help search engines better understand the organization of your content.
However, it is important to ensure that the implementation of the filter function is done correctly. If the URLs for the filtered pages are not properly handled, it can lead to duplicate content issues and negatively impact SEO. It is recommended to use canonical tags or URL parameters to avoid this.
Additionally, if the filter function generates too many pages with thin or low-quality content, it could potentially harm SEO. It's important to ensure that the filtered pages have enough unique and relevant content to provide value to users and search engines...

You have to think of your intention for the Google SERPs. Are those pages optimized for the same specific keywords or long term phrase. If yes, take a close look at the performance and ignore canonical Tag or robots settings in the first steps. When you see the ranking performance between the subfolder you will notice which strategy will fit for you. Optimizing a big website for several duplicates is not really helpful but not completely wrong.

@Safxmed you can use a canonical tag to point the filter page variant to the static category variant. This way, there is a clear signal to Google as to which is the preferred page for showing on SERP. This is the method used by ecommerce giants like Shopee. If a user searched on Google and clicked into their category page, the url would be the static variant. However, if they were to travel from the home page via the filter system to the same category, they are actually given the filtered page variant.
If you do follow this, i still recommend having the static category urls in links from home, menu, and footer where possible. This is for internal linking purposes.

Static content pages ranking dropping all the time
Hello all. I have been working three months in my current job in the hotel industry. I have been publishing a lot of content to our website (mainly articles), which in general have been ranking well and really boosted our website traffic. The problem that I am facing, though, is the fact that our static pages' rankings are basically constantly dropping. Especially one of our main pages, which is this hotel page. I haven't been doing any real changes to the content, but the ranking (with keywords "hotelli helsinki" [Hotel in Helsinki in Finnish]) has plummeted from 13th position all the way down to 19th... What has been happening during these last three months is that we did change to a new domain and we have done all the redirections and also informed Google about this change through search console. I have also done some minor changes to the on-page content, such as changing the meta titles and descriptions as well as the page title and some of the text content to more natural ones instead of clumsy SEO texts and optimizing the images. This hasn't helped at all though and the rankings seem to steadily drop all the time. What would YOU do with this page? Maybe add more text content to the page to be more informative? All tips would be highly appreciated.

SEO before products on ecommerce site
Our company plans to quickly launch an e-commerce site to sell religion themed banners (religionbanners.com). We'll have our products up on the site in about a week. Should I block Google from accessing the site during this period? Is there anything wrong with starting simple SEO tasks such as submitting the site map on Google Search Console prior to us having the products on the site?

ECommerce Filtering Affect on SEO
I'm building an eCommerce website which has an advanced filter on the left hand side of the category pages. It allows users to tick boxes for colours, sizes, materials, and so on. When they've made their choices they submit (this will likely be an AJAX thing in a future release, but isn't at time of writing). The new filtered page has a new URL, which is made up of the IDs of the filter's they've ticked - it's a bit like /department/2/17-7-4/10/ My concern is that the filtered pages are, on the most part, going to be the same as the parent. Which may lead to duplicate content. My other concern is that these two URLs would lead to the exact same page (although the system would never generate the 'wrong' URL) /department/2/17-7-4/10/ /department/2/**10/**17-7-4/ But I can't think of a way of canonicalising that automatically. Tricky. So the meat of the question is this: should I worry about this causing issues with the SEO - or can I have trust in Google to work it out?

Anyone done SEO with on-page ONLY?
I read this blog post: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/let-onpage-optimization-change-your-life The author claims they have increased the visitors 50 fold doing on-page seo ONLY. So they just added content, and optimized the site structure. Anyone have seen similar results? Not outreach whatsoever, just adding content to site. Technically, this should be true, article directories has tons of visitors and they were giving out links.

Are pages with lots of pictures with outbound links bad for seo?
"Inspiration" blog posts are a good example. The one below has 80 pictures as part of a logo inspiration page. But each picture has an outbound url. Bad or doesn't matter? http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/80-creative-and-well-designed-logos/

Best SEO extension or plugin for on-page optimization
I was wondering what you guys might recommend for a browser extension or plugin that would help developers optimize each page for specific keywords. I'm looking for a tool that will give me a grade on how well it's optimized with a recommendation checklist. I would use SEOMoz's onpage analysis tool but it doesn't have access to my private development environment (hence the need for a plugin.) Recommendations? Thanks!
