Duplicate central index listing
-
Hello Moz community
I have a duplicate listing in Central Index (GB) and all communication channels seem unresponsive. I have emailed support and general sales. I even tried contacting them on their facebook account.
I am stumped as to how I can get this duplicate listing removed as I have no control over it and the support is non-existent.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I recently had the same problem (2022) - It appears like their response team has step up - email; support@centralindex.com and they will remove the duplicate/incorrect listing free of charge with a kindly worded email

Hi, we are having issues with Central Index, too.
We are an office space agency that is purely focused on helping businesses find flexible workspace - website: [https://www.theofficeproviders.com](link URL) - our profile was set up a few years ago and listed in the correct category.
However, since December 2020, we have been finding our company listed in all sorts of categories ranging from DVD rentals to fabric retailers!
This is occurring in all newspapers that CI propagates to (so around 500 links).
We have contacted CI several times but no response.
We are aware that these are no follow, but I imagine that this miscategorisation could still be causing SEO problems?
Could anyone suggest a fix?
Many thanks

Hello Marc
Unfortunately no. I am surprised that even now all the aforementioned issues persist.

Hi Avid-Panda - I have the same issue, and despite my many attempts, cannot get my duplicate entry removed. Did you ever remove your duplicate, and if so, could you please let me know how?
Thanks

Ahh I understand now - yes, then this could be bad and I would be trying to find a way to resolve it.
Best of luck with sorting it out

Ah, I see where you are coming from. I should have been more clear. The two listings are technically inconsistent, as one listing lacks some details of the other (such as the county/state). So the Name, Address and Phone number does not match up.
That said, one listing having incomplete information is unlikely to have the same implications as a listing which has conflicting information. I haven't seen any data to confirm that though, which is why I assume there is some detrimental impact.
I have tried their social media repeatedly but to no avail.
I'm sure they will call me sooner or later trying to sell something, then I can bring it up
Appreciate your input in any case.

Inconsistent, yes - this could have a negative effect, but just because a listing appears a second time on the same site, this wouldn't be a negative.
Take Yell.com as an example - you can appear on many pages on there, as you can in many directories, and this has never been shown to cause any problems. However, I would be interested to see any research that says otherwise.
I really wouldn't worry about this if all it is, is a possibility that a second listing might also get featured.
I can't offer advice on specifics to do with the site itself I'm afraid though. Have you tried reaching them via Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook?

Hi Andy
Yes and yes.
According to many resources including many here on Moz, inconsistent and duplicate listings are bad for local SEO.
Inconsistent listings are more serious, but duplicates also have a negative effect (if someone knows better please update me).
So my concern is that this is having a detrimental effect, however small, that I might not be able to fix. I am surprised that one of the biggest directories in the UK is not managed.
Perhaps I can claim both listings by paying, then delete one of them. Has anyone done this before?
-
Ahh now I understand - so they are sending your listings out twice?
Have you checked to make sure that your listing is actually being duplicated on other sites?
Chances are that this wouldn't do anything from any SEO or Google perspective - I'm not actually familiar with that site so can't offer any specific suggestions on how they work.
What is your main concern that is worrying you?

Hello Andy
Thank you for your response. I am not sure how to interpret your question. The type of listing includes Name, Address, Phone number with the usual info like mail and website. If there is any further criteria for types of listings then I am unfamiliar with it. It isn't a paid listing if that helps.
I thought I had shared the problem. Could you clarify what information you are after?
Here is a link to the directory http://gb.centralindex.com/
I want to get one of two listings removed as it is a duplicate and thus, syndicating a duplicate listing to all the directories that source their information from Central Index.

Hi,
What sort of duplicate listing is it? Any chance of sharing the duplication problem?

I am having an issue with multiple Google local listings.
We assigned separate numbers for each local listing (using Call Tracking Metrics). However, recently our listings were suspended and when I read through terms of service it says the number has to match on the location page. We use dynamic numbers - so of course that number doesn't show up. Would it work to also add the local number to the page in addition to the dynamic number? Or has anyone figured out a work around?

Incorporated Business Listings
Hey Community! My agency has been working with more companies that are Incorporated lately who are requiring SEO assistance. A few of our customers have their business listed to include the Business Name, Inc. in the Google/Facebook listing and some of them don't. What would you guys recommend we go with when dealing with an incorporated business? One of the businesses we're working with is Blossom Childcare and Learning Center, Inc. Thanks

Indivdual Property Listings
In Missouri real estate once a home hits our MLS it sydicates out all over the world. The question is this: How do I help each listing rank high organically over trulia, zillow, realtor and nationally owned companies such as Remax or Bershire Hathaway. We are a local firm who dominates our market and our website is the highest ranked in the area. The listings are not. Thoughts?

Does Google Analytics automatically desseminate Maps/Places traffic from Organic traffic? Do webmasters still have to apply UTM parameter tracking to URLS in their GMB profile listings?
It was recommended a few years to apply UTM parameters to local URLs to get more accurate referral/source tracking in Google Analytics. Here is an old Moz post about this process https://moz.com/blog/tracking-traffic-from-google-places-in-google-analytics However does GA automatically separate this traffic out nowadays? Is there a method to identify the traffic coming from Maps/Places without UTM parameters? Is UTM tagging still necessary if we want to see these traffic reports?

Why does it take so long for citations to get listed?
I understand that several citation places take over a month to get listed, but I just don't understand why. Granted, there's nothing I can do about it, but I'm just curious what the hold up is based on. Thanks, Ruben

Which Local Listing to Delete?
A local business has two Google+ Local listings: an unverified unclaimed listing an unverified, but claimed listing Both are duplicates with correct address and phone numbers. Listing 1 ranks. Listing 2 doesn't rank. Should I: A) report listing 1 and verify listing 2, or B) claim and verify listing 1 and delete listing 2 With A there's a risk of killing a listing that's ranking well and not getting a replacement. With B there's a chance of going against Google guidelines, as I understand claiming duplicate listings is a no-no (?) Suggestions? Thanks!
