Moving from Google place to Google+ - problems, problems
-
Hi, I'm just moving a business listing from Google Places to Google+
I have a couple of problems. (1) The verification postcard has turned up with the wrong address on it (different to the address on Google Places!) - can I alter this once I've verified Google+ page or would I need to go through postcard verification again?
(2) I see the categories in Google+ are far less flexible (and appropriate) for the business I work for, so I'm thinking that may cause problems. Has anybody else experienced this same problem?
Thanks in advance for your help

I meant merging yes, sorry! Thanks for those useful links there Amber - they look brilliant L

Hi Luke,
What exactly do you mean "moving a listing"? As Sida mentioned, there isn't such a thing as moving a listing from one account to another.
I think this article by Mike Blumenthal will really help with your 2nd question. His blog is a great read for anyone tackling Local SEO and the comments are always filled with quality discussions.
The article you linked to suggests making a "duplicate page of your existing listing" and then "Google will merge your old Places listing data into it".
- The term "duplicate" scares me this is the first time I have seen someone propose the idea of creating a duplicate listing rather than advising on how to delete/avoid duplicates
- As far as merging goes- http://localsearchforum.catalystemarketing.com/google-business-pages/4058-dont-merge-google-local-g-business-pages.html
Hope this helps!!

Ah I see. Sounds like printing error. I know one of the problems we had for awhile was batches of postcards going out that were blank. So ya, some kind of glitch.
"Do you know when Google will roll out once click conversion option in the UK? Have they indicated dates?"
Google never projects dates. But it's a slow rollout in US right now. I'm not hearing about very many existing dashboards being upgraded yet, so hard to say when it will hit UK.

Hi Linda - for some reason it copied one line of address twice but I couldn't find any dupes. It just looks like a strange printing error, or something. I'm not going to verify anyway for now. It's a little confusing. Do you know when Google will roll out once click conversion option in the UK? Have they indicated dates? Many thanks for your useful advice.
-
Hi Luke, yes I'm one that's been cautioning about merging and Google still says wait as well - until you get the new dashboard and the one click upgrade option.
Here is a concern I have about your initial merge attempt. When you tried to merge it should have merged with the existing Place page. If postcard showed up with a different address it makes me wonder if you accidentally merged with a dupe out there that had the wrong address. How did you get the postcard if the address was wrong?
Re categories - The new Google Places dashboard update is rolling out right now. Soon everyone will have it. With the new dash categories are also limited and there will be no more custom cats. Any custom cats you have will disappear after you are upgraded anyway. So everything is moving to default streamlined categories.

Hi Sida - it's this process but there's a fair amount of caution out there from SEOs http://www.topdraw.com/blog/what-you-need-to-know-about-google-places-google-plus/

I am not quite sure why you are moving the account or if there is such a thing. You should have Google places for your business to list your business on Google Map.
Google + Business page is a page where you create a network with your followers. You should have both of them for your business.
Re: Verification: You need to verify your account for Google Places but no need for Google +. If your letter has gone to wrong address, login to your account and correct the address and ask them to resend it. Otherwise, your address on Google Map will be incorrect. Make sure you get letter to right address.
I hope that helps

Separate Google+ page per blog language?
Our corporate blog is currently online in four different languages (English, Dutch, German and French): blog.com blog.be blog.fr blog.de For these different blogging domains we have one single Google+ page on which we share the blogs' content in different languages. Would it be better to make four separate Google+ pages (per blogging domain)? What would be the advantages/disadvantages? Also, each article is posted in four different languages. But the author stays the same for all different languages. So one author always posts content in English, Dutch, German and French. Could Google consider this as spam?

Visits in Campaigns report exceed pageviews in Pages report in Google Analytics
We tag our links in social media posts with the source (i.e. Facebook), medium (Post) and campaign (i.e. kids funny sayings). We often see in our Campaigns report that the number of visits generated by a Facebook post exceeds the number of pageviews for that linked to page in the Pages report Has anyone else had this experience and why does it happen? Or am I missing something really obvious or doing something wrong in which case, please please enlighten me!

Facebook Likes, Google +1s tactic - is this a good idea
Hello, For our eCommerce site, we're considering doing the following: When people call in to place an order by phone, we take their order and tell them while we have them on the phone that if they click the Facebook Like button and Google +1 button on our site's home page, we'll knock $3 off their total. We would just show them where the buttons are and refresh our screen to make sure the count went up by one like and one +1 when the customer said that they pressed the buttons. Then, we would continue with their phone order and just knock off $3.00 I may not do this just because it may be grey hat, but it seems 100% safe forever. If you recommend against doing this, can you think of any 100% white hat way to do the same thing? Thanks.

Doctors in a Hospital - Setup Google Local or Google+ Profiles?
Hello - I've been running this over for awhile - so I'm curious to see what the community says about it. I'm working with a client who would like to brand the doctors in their hospitals. Many of them do have recognition already - and their associated locations have profiles. Google Local semi-recently said it's OK to brand Dr's names - even if they exist within a single location. So, my question is - is it better to go the Google Local route and create the Local/+ page for them, or to go through the Google+/Google Brand Pages route and create them that way? If each doctor were to decide, individually, to post on their page - would that be possible with the Places route (I don't think so, based on what I've seen)? Also, if a doctor already has a personal Google+ page - would it make sense to just create the additional brand page as well through this interface? Well either of these methods achieve optimal visibility as well as the option to post should they decide to go that route? What it boils down to - is this is a task we can perform from the outside, or is it best handled by giving the doctors best practice for setting up their personal Google+ pages and associated Brand Pages themselves? Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Best strategy for Multilanguage Google+ Business Page(s) & rel publisher
Hello! I have many troubles defining a clear Google + strategy. Let's say I have one brand, say "reallycoolbarcelona" (because Barcelona is really cool!), 1 google place in Barcelona, and many websites with local ccTLD to promote the brand in different countries: reallycoolbarcelona.fr, reallycoolbarcelona.es, reallycoolbarcelona.co.uk, reallycoolbarcelona.it, reallycoolbarcelona.de. 1/ Now, how to handle that in Google+?

==> Shall I create one single page for all languages in Google+? (But then I cannot transfer Google Place to Google Local +?)
Then I would put the rel publisher of this page on all my websites? ==> Or shall I create one Google + page per language?
Then I would put the rel publisher of each language page on the corresponding website based on the language (french Google + page publisher on the french website only)? 2/ Now how did you manage to create a +SEOMoz page in Google+? By that, I mean a page with a clean url plus.google.com/+SEOMoz (that's so cool!) and not the scary url https://plus.google.com/b/1234567890 Thanks for enlighting my blurred mind about Google + multilingual strategies!0 -

How long until Social Spam achieves the same notoriety/problem as Link Spam used to be
What are people's thoughts on whether or not social spam will become a major problem soon, just like forum profile/blog comment spam, etc, and what do you think the search engines will do about companies that are blatantly gaming the social signals game I.E. since social proof seems to be google's answer to combating anchor text manipulation and content farms, what do you think will be google's answer to combating the rampant social spam that will surely overtake us.
