I agree with John and Steven. We manage a number of sports blogs, and I have my content writers link back to old posts using new posts. If there is a legitimate reason to link to the old post then go for it. For a local music blog, I frequently write content that has no expiration date. For example, I may post all summer about bands coming to town, or write reviews, but every few posts I might write a “top five music clubs in town” post. Those posts are relevant to my blog, they can be linked back to at a later date, and have the chance of picking up traffic at any time (depending on the search.) Analytics will also tell you which posts are getting traffic, no matter how old the post may be. That should give you a clue to what stays relevant.

A WordPress plugin I like a lot is Old Post Promoter It allows you to set old posts in certain categories to automatically re-post as new at specified intervals. I put all of my evergreen content in a special category in addition to its proper category and then let OPP automatically re-post that content every couple days. Since I have my Twitter and Facebook feeds hooked up to my RSS, that old content also gets automatically re-posted there as well.

Steven - that's a great idea to recycle still-relevant posts.
Another idea, perhaps a way to handle more date-specific posts, would be a "Looking Back" type of callout on a page. "Here's what we were talking about a year ago..." or five years, etc.
EGOL, you mentioned having 10 recent posts. You could extend this out a little more and have another batch of ten that are related tags posts - even posts you set as specific that you'd like to renew again.

In regards to SEO I completely agree with EGOL, however there is something else you can do to continually get traffic to pages, and that is to use twitter and retweet your posts. If your posts are not specifically date based, and you can provide valuable information to people, it can work in your favor.
An example of someone doing this is @jeffbullas ,he uses SocialOomph to send out a tweet with an interesting title and link every 15 minutes. Some of them are a year old, but still have interesting, if not valuable, information.

The shelf life of a blog post is indefinite.
However, let's imagine how the value might diminish over time....
Let's say that the blog where the post is published has the ten most recent posts on its homepage, and each post is assigned to one category, and each category page displays ten posts.
When your blog post is brand new the page where it is displayed has one link into it from the homepage of the blog and one page into it from the main category page. However, after many other posts are added the blog post no longer displays on the homepage and to find it in the homepage archive you must page back several pages. The same is true for the category page. After ten posts in that category it is getting buried in the pagination for that category. So over time the links to your blog post page will be buried deeper and deeper in the pages of the blog and less linkvalue is passed.

At what point to stop comments on a blog? Do too many comments hurt the page?
I have a page that's ranking pretty well, and driving sales. That page is starting to get 10+ comments per day and is starting to get quite long. I was wondering if there is a point where I should disable the comments? My gut tells me that people interacting with the page, and Google seeing responses with the users SHOULD be a good thing not bad. But, then I think that a majority of the content of the page is no longer the article, but the comments. All the comments are good, non spammy and directly related to the topic. People just asking questions, etc. Good engagement, I should be happy right?

Repurpose/reuse blog content - email address to make available for this
Hi, From Rand's recent Whiteboard Friday, I learned this: "Have right on the blog page the email address to use if they want to repurpose/reuse the content. That way if someone wants to give us a backlink and quote/reference our blog, they have an easy way to get permission." My question is, what do I say with the email address when I list our contact email? Something like 1. Just list the email address 2. "To reuse/repurpose our content, please contact adress@email.com." or something else?

Guest blog on my web site.
**I received this email from a lady who wishes to write articles and post them on my site under my news section . Ok, if its quality I dont mind hiring somebody to create a post. Her proposal is as follows and this is her email :-**Basically what I can offer is to write a couple of articles for your News section, something fun and interesting for your visitors which will hopefully drag some traffic your way. I could make them well suited to your site and I could include in each a link to a client of mine - one who wants to be exposed on a good site like yours - and for doing that I can offer you compensation of £33 for each client link - 1 per article. For example, one client is Watches of Switzerland, so I could write an article about ideal wedding gifts for a groom maybe, or something about a perfect Honeymoon destination like Switzerland, and slip a link in there. Other clients include Weddingsite and Lampcommerce - which could be included in something about making a matrimonial home. There are a few stipulations I would need to abide by, like - the article would need to be 500 words, it would need the link to be a 'do follow' link, it would need a picture or two, and it would need a couple of 'sacrifice links' (just links to Wikipedia or something to make it more Google friendly). Google authorship works on posts, but not on root domain.
When I check Google authorship via the tool Google provides, it says I am confirmed for individual posts, but not for my root domain. I’m using WordPress, and individual posts are fine, but not the blog as a whole. I am the only author… and have given it a week, thinking perhaps it needed time... but no luck. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Help on blog topics for my niche
I'm looking for a couple of blogging ideas to get the ball rolling (mainly in my head) for one of the company websites I am working on. The site is https://perco.co.uk The company is based around offering trenchless technology across the UK. The first couple of posts are more like 'Latest news' items and I have only really come up with an idea of 'microtunnelling vs directional drilling'. I didn't seem to get much out of ubersuggest, soovle and google instant. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks

How to titling images in WP blog
What is the best way to title an image in a blog post. The wording will relate to the post discussion so I am not discussing the word stuffing, rather how to enter the words. Here are my options for the title: 1. dayton engagement photos 2. dayton_engagement_photos 3. daytonengagementphotos 4. Is there another preferred method? Should I increment the image title for each image such as: daytonengagementphotos1, daytonengagementphotos2, etc. What about the alternative text area? Does the same concept apply there?
