Google Disavow Tool: which kind of links do harm and which do not harm my site?
-
Recently a guy asked at GoogleWebmasterHelp: Should I be worried if a couple of sites that I don't want to be associated with are linking to me?
In this case there have been 2 porn sites linking to his site... that clear.
But my question is if for example sites like e.g. : http://www.linguee.deLinguee is one of the best dictionary sites where you can search for phrases and receive common translation examples which are very helpful. Liguee set some links to my site because they take texts usually from multilingual sites to gather examples.
A dictionary site does not have nothing to do with my business but also I don't consider that this might my harm my site? What do you think?
-
Yes, linguee seems to be a quality website, apparently well regarded by Google, but I've got 37,000 backlinks from linguee domains (out of 42,000 total backlinks), and my rankings have been dropping during the last months (as the number of backlinks from linguee has been growing steadily) .
Should I disavow these links? What do you think?
-
I agree with redfishking, as long as the links are coming from a quality, authentic website they should not hurt your rankings. It is only when there are a number of links from one site or the website would be considered low-quality that it can do potential harm. In such cases I would be inclined to recommend using the disavow tool, however if its a minute amount of links from a credible source I would not worry.

A link like this shouldn't harm your site, and if it is a follow link, could be helping you in the rankings.
Google does not expect every single link to a site to be perfectly relevant and authoritative. There are bound to be a number of irrelevant links to any site, because anyone on the internet can post anything at any time. This site in particular seems to be a high quality, useful site, and even though a dictionary is not relevant to your business, the language you are using on your site IS relevant to text translation.
Unless you are getting many (read: hundreds or thousands) of links from this site, it should have a negligible or slightly beneficial effect on your rankings.

Should harmful links to your own website be removed?
Upon running a link report on a website, there are often multiple links flagged as bad or suspect that come from a blog that is integrated into the website, which means there are links (set up as article tags) in the site that go to other pages in the same site. They have likely been flagged due to their high frequency. A similar problem is occurring where blogs from a connected site (from an offshoot site of a company that is part of the original) are also tagging their blog posts to link into the original website. Should these links be disavowed? Will these links have an effect on the website if they are disavowed or not?

Disavow Links - how do you know if it's worked?
I asked another SEO company to analysis my link structure (as I was too busy!) As I was flat lining on some work I was doing. They said I potentially had an algo penalty and that i need to do a disavow , even though I had no messages from Google saying I had unnatural links. stupidly I agreed to the disavow. Looking at Webmasters tools it seems they've submitted a bunch of links. Since they've done this traffic dropped by 60%, ranking dropped massively. In google Webmasters all the links which are meant to be removed are still showing. How do I know if the actual disavow has been done? And should I do a reconsideration request? Even though Google hadn't flagged an issue ??

Someone not removing a link to our site
Hi Mozzers, We recently worked with an SEO company that bought a few sitewide links without our permission which caused us to get a huge slap by the last panda/penguin update. We managed to remove most of the links except one site (The biggest one).

Link Detox and Link Removal
I have a question about which links to remove after running a link detox from Link Research Tools. First a little back story. I had had an SEO company link building for one of the websites I own. But I have recently stopped working with them. In the last month my rankings have near dropped off the charts. I have just recently gotten access to Google webmaster tools and noticed an unnatural link warning from back in March. So yesterday I ran link detox and it reported 19 toxic links, 120 suspicious links, and 24 healthy links. It's rather obvious that I should remove all of the toxic links. They all from sites that have been deindexed by google. But my question is a about the suspicious links. What should my criteria be for removing them? Am I better off removing them all and leaving my site with only 24 healthy links or should I personally comb through them and remove only the worst of the worst so that I leave my site with a few more links? I'd really like to get the site ready to resubmit to google as soon as I can. Thoughts? yyCOf.png

Link Building with Widdgets and Tools
Hi, We run a affiliate program and as part of that program we offer free tools that our affiliates can take in order to help them promote our product. We have also used these tools as a link building method as we provide highly useful information. We have seen on Google Link Schemes page (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66356) the following part which we believe has only just been added: Links embedded in widgets that are distributed across various sites, for example: Visitors to this page: 1,472

car insurance Our tool basically consists of a link of JavaScript with a link outside of the tool as per the following example: this super widget was provided by <a>mydomain.com</a> We are now concerned that a link building process that we have used for many years is now considered to be gaming Google. We also do something similar with badges that we give out to approved suppliers. These would look something like the following: Approved Supplier http://mydomain.co.uk/ Any recommendations on whether or not the style we are using would now be considered as wrong to Google, even though they add value to our partners sites. Thanks for any help in advance.0 -
