Question about overoptimization and images "alt"

Hello,
I own a shop with lots of categories, in each category there is a lot of pictures, some have already alt, must I put the attribute alt in all images, it would be 100% beneficial for my site or could would I be over-optimizing the site?

I'd always recommend putting in an Alt tag on images, to describe what the image shows.
The Alt tag was developed originally for text-only browsers or visually impaired visitors to a website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_attribute

So, yes, you should try to always use the Alt tag, in my opinion.
That said, Alt tags shouldn't be stuffed with keywords. If you do that, it will hurt you in the long run.
Best practice is to describe the image.

The problem with keywords on ecommerce sites is there tends to be lots of images of similar things and people end up using the same keywords over and over, which brings down their value as an indicator of what the image is. Sure it can help but as page-level factors start weighing less and less and keywords loose footing as a factor, keywords in alt tags become an even lower priority. My opinion is you're better off having fun with creating your alt tags than tying yourself to using keywords in each of them.

I've heard for eCommerce websites that appropriately naming your image file and alt text are key to good onsite optimisation. As eCommerce sites have little content on core pages, particularly category pages, search engines rely on the filename and alt text to discern keywords. Is there truth to this or has this become outmoded?

The alt tag is your opportunity to describe the picture to those who cannot see it because they have their images turned off. Think of the purpose the image has on the page visually and then try to boil that purpose down to a short phrase that achieves the same purpose. They don't carry a lot of weight algorithmically so don't feel tied to keywords when writing them.

Making sure that each image has alt text would not be considered over-optimisation. With a site like yours, I would suggest using alt tag keywords that appropriately describes the image, instead of using specific targeted keywords too heavily. When creating your alt text, consider what the user might be searching for - and perhaps do a little research - but make sure that the text you're using really is directly relevant to the image, as opposed to the overall landing page.

How to deal with hundreds of externally-generated images with no alt text?
Hi all This is a good one. I work for a webdev company who has clients in the transport industry. Part of our work on their sites involves pulling in transport-related offers from a feed. This includes both text and images, which our site template turns into viewable pages. The problem is that Moz has flagged that these images don't come with alt text, and there are _hundreds and hundreds of them. _I can't add alt text to them all, there just isn't the time or resources. Besides, the list is updated frequently, and new images are pulled in. So... what do? Would it be prudent to noindex them all by default setting? I'm stuck! Many thanks,

Redirect question
Hi Everyone I've tried searching elsewhere in these forums for an answer to this but not having much luck - hope I'm not duplicating content! I get this message in Moz: "We have detected that the domain NappyValleyNet.com redirects to www.nappyvalleynet.com. We do not recommend tracking a redirect URL. Would you like to track www.nappyvalleynet.com for this campaign instead?" Is this a set-up issue on my side? I'm not sure what this means? Thank you!

My target keyword is "moringa powder" but my product title is "moringa ultimate original powder". Is this a problem?
The focus keyword is "moringa powder". The product title and default H1 tag is "moringa ultimate original powder". The url also has "moringa ultimate original powder". Yoast is saying the keyword does not appear in the url or any subheadings. A Hummingbird Question
So with Google SERPs looking for more customer intent and especially to direct questions eg, How much does a x cost? Where can I find x etc - is it good practice to create a bank of Q&A's on site or is it sufficient to have good quality content on the subject matter stating the costs of x and where you can find it written in a customer friendly manner? Will a bank of Q&As add any value if they directly answer the most likely search questions? Thanks Ash

Google is showing the "wrong" page in the serps for user queries
Our site, cpuboss.com has two main types of pages: comparisons of CPUs, and pages about individual CPUs. When I google search for "fx8350", a keyword for the cpu "AMD FX-8350", I hoped to see our CPU page ranking, instead I see a comparison of this CPU against another. http://i.imgur.com/QwNczDj.png?1 (Our page ranks #5) Any idea? Many of our comparisons rank for CPU keywords, when I think it'd be a better experience for the user if our cpu pages ranked instead. This particular CPU page is linked to on our homepage with appropriate anchor text, and linked to on that comparison also. I would have hoped the relevance of the cpu page to this keyword would be stronger than the comparison page, and google might use that relevance signal to show the user the right page. thoughts?

On page "F" and I changed my tags long ago to match everything and still F?

On-Page Analysis Question
Hi, I have a question about the On-Page Analysis report. I am tracking two different keywords for our campaign: "Private Dining" and "Private Dining Sacramento". We are ranked 8th for Private Dining Sacramento but we have an On-Page analysis rating of F. While on the other hand we are not ranked in the top 50 for Private Dining but have an A on-page report. When looking at the on-page report it makes sense that we have an F for Private Dining Sacramento as we don't use that keyword anywhere on the page. We only use Private Dining. However, we are still ranked for Private Dining Sacramento and not for Private Dining. Should we update our keywords/text to use the Private Dining Sacramento keyword instead of the Private Dining? If we add Sacramento will we also get credit for Private Dining because it will still be part of all H,P and A tags we use? Sampe Report | Keyword | Grade | Google US |
