Is it "correct" to welcome to my social community an authority figure?
-
Hi,
I just "earned" an authority figure as a follower on my company's twitter account (not a big account - 600 followers).
The authority figure is the founder of a very relevant and big niche news site.
Should I welcome her to my community? Is it correct putting her on the spot?
Will it offend other followers who I don't welcome?(Needless to say that I would love the opportunity to blog with them etc. - to have a relationship)
Thanks
-
I suspected that hence the original question.
About greeting everyone... not a possibility for me at this time (maybe a weekly welcome with no name dropping).
Thanks

BeytzNet, I would make every attempt to welcome everyone to your community, not just authority figures. Treat them just as if they're anyone else who has just joined.
If you owned a restaurant and a celebrity walked in, would you give them special treatment? I hope not. They're just there to eat, not be paraded around in front of everyone. Welcome them to the community, welcome them to your restaurant, and give them the same special service that you would anyone else.

No, it still wouldn't change anything for me, but remember, there are no rules around this, only etiquette.
Re-tweeting her Tweets is one of the points I mentioned above
I would keep it subtle and not rush to try and gain her attention. She isn't going to unfollow you because you didn't say welcome, but I would start to engage with her.

Thanks, makes sense.
How about just retweeting something of hers that correlates with my site?
This will also put me "on her radar" but in a more subtle way - wouldn't you say...Another last minute edit...
Going through her tweets I just noticed someone else (big with 10,000 followers) thanking her stating its an honor. The figure then favorited it and RT it in her line...Does that change the answer?

Hi,
There are no real rules around this and if you haven't said 'welcome' to others, I might be tempted to avoid doing so this time. People won't be following your Twitter account in order to have you welcome them; it is more about what you have to say and offer.
Keep up with the level of Twitter activity and if you wish to engage with them, watch out for their Tweets and start by commenting and re-tweeting what they say. It is a nice way to ease into making more contact with them.

Switch to naked domain that has higher page authority
Brilliant Moz community! I just started here and find it so helpful and am confident that I can get an answer to this. Our domain is currently https://www.example.com. I have been wanting to move to https://example.com just for a cleaner URL. To my surprise, https://example.com has the same DA but a significantly higher page authority than our current https://www.example.com. Of course my immediate reaction is to 301 to the https://example.com but I wanted to get some advice and anything we should consider before doing this. My other question would be - how is this possible? I don't remember that we ever used that domain but we also had some rather bad developers a couple of years back. Thank you so much in advance!

Domain authority vs indexed pages
Hello, There are many articles and from our personal experience we can say that you can rank a page without backlinks with high DA but we cant figure out if DA of domain help to rank as the link juice ( so the link juice going from home page thru all pages to specific page)Â or it will rank a page even if its not linked in any way from homepage or any other pages and even if it not linked in any way from other pages and still ranks just because of high DA, does that DA value will spread even above all indexed pages if you have lets say 100,000 pages, i mean if domain has 100 indexed pages and DA of 50 and another domain has 100,000 and DA of 100, if both pages are the same on those domains and have no backlinks to it from my understanding page on domain with 100 indexed pages and DA of 50 suppose to rank higher ? Please share what you think

Is it ok to correct someone who spelled and styled our name incorrectly in a blog post?
A writer recently recommended my company, Swiftype, in a blog post. Â However, he called us Swift Type, which adds an additional t, splits our name into two words, and uses an additional capitalization. Â Would it be out of line to email him and gently correct him? I appreciate the recommendation, and will absolutely focus on thanking him for that, complimenting his content (which is fairly good), and just add the correction at the end of the email. Â While it isn't a huge deal, a search Swift Type brings up the Swift programming language and SwiftKey as first page results, while Swiftype only displays our content (he also didn't link to us, so a user would have to search to find us - reaching out could also be a chance to spur him to link to us).

Turning traffic into community
Hi Mozzers, Using the strategies I learned here, my website has really started to take off :). http://orangeoctop.us/ is less than a year old and we are starting to get some serious traffic. Hundreds of thousands of people are visiting this month for videogame tips. We cover FIFA, NHL, Watch Dogs, etc... The problem is... we have YET to build a community. There are so many visitors but 80% of them just view the tips and never come back. My goal is to build a community and connect users who are struggling to win. Offering a support system to help people get better together. I love the community and gamification of Moz. Which is why I am here asking for help. Does anyone have actionable advice for building community? Or solutions that would work well with Wordpress? Play hard! Joey

Changing Social Media Profiles Name
Hi Mozzers, A client is thinking about changing their social media handles to shorten them to just their brand name as opposed to brand name plus the word 'apparel'. What is the implications of doing this and does the link change from facebook/brand-apparel or does the URL stay the same? Thanks Gareth

Should I put my "brand" in every one of my posts / pages?
I've heard different thoughts on this and wanted to see what you the seomoz group thought. I have been leaving my "brand" out of my titles so I could create longer titles (without my "brand" taking up precious space.) I've also read that adding your brand can take away from the words you want to optimize for in the title / post. I've read other places that you want your brand in every page title to "strengthen" your brand. Long story short, I'm trying to figure out if I should add my brand to the my page / post titiles, or leave them as is. Feel free to check out my site and current title template if you'd like. Thanks!

Domain Authority Mind = Blown
Hi guys, I've focused on building my domain authority for a while now, it's stll low but i'm sure it'll increase. My competitors have 0 backlinks to most of there products which is good, i guess. However they have a domain authority of around 70-80. Which is really high. There product pages get a page authority from 60-70+ which means they rank very high with no backlinks. I can easily out rank them by getting backlinks but it's a very time consuming and costs quite a bit of money to out source it. My question is... is it really all about page/domain authority? I can't see any other factors that allow them to rank high for the products. Also my mind is blown as you can create a blog with a high Domain authority such as Wordpress but that doesn't mean your blog will instantly rank high right? Is there something i'm missing with there website? I'm so confused right now! Any help would be great. Main competitor is: http://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk along with http://www.cartridgesave.co.uk (Stinkyink to be a member here actually)
