Moz Crawl Shows Duplicate Content Which Doesn't Seem To Appear In Google?
-
Morning All,
First post, be gentle!
So I had Moz crawl our website with 2500 high priority issues of duplicate content, not good. However if I just do a simple site:www.myurl.com in Google, I cannot see these duplicate pages....very odd.
Here is an example....
http://goo.gl/GXTE0I
http://goo.gl/dcAqdUSo the same page has a different URL, Moz brings this up as an issue, I would agree with that. However if I google both URL's in Google, they will both bring up the same page but with the original URL of http://goo.gl/zDzI7j ...in other words, two different URL's bring up the same indexed page in Google....weird
I thought about using a wildcard in the robots.txt to disallow these duplicate pages with poor URL's....something like....
Disallow: /*display.php?product_id
However, I read various posts that it might not help our issues? Don't want to make things worse.
On another note, my colleague paid for a "SEO service" and they just dumped 1000's of back-links to our website, of course that's come back to bite us in the behind. Anyone have any recommendations for a good service to remove these back-links?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the advice, I was doing some reading of canonical URL's and your suggest does appear to be exactly what they are suggesting. Looks like Ill have a bit of work in store for me!

It is not unusual for the same page to be reachable by multiple URLs. This can be caused by tracking parameters or site search results (which is what I think is happening in your case). The easiest fix for this is putting a canonical URL on the page using the one Google has indexed. But keep in mind that duplicate content does not cause a penalty as such, it just causes Google to make a choice about which URL to display in the search results and it seems that choice has already been made in your case. (I would still add the canonicals, though.)

Duplicate Content in Footers (Not as routine as it seems)
Hello there, I know that content in the footer of sites are safe from duplication penalisation; however, what if the footers where replicated across different subdomains? For instance, the footer was duplicated across: www.example.com blog.example.com blog2.example.com I don't see it as a big issue personally; however, outsourced "specialists" seem to think that this is causing duplication problems and therefore negatively affecting the ranking power of "lesser" subdomains i.e. not the www version, which is by far the strongest subdomain. Would be good to get some insight if anybody has any. Thanks.

Duplicate Content, Same Company?
Hello Moz Community, I am doing work for a company and they have multiple locations. For example, examplenewyork.com, examplesanfrancisco.com, etc. They also have the same content on certain pages within each website. For example, examplenewyork.com/page-a has the same content as examplesanfrancisco.com/page-a Does this duplicate content negatively impact us? Or could we rank for each page within each location parameter (for example, people in new york search page-a would see our web page and people in san fran search page-a would see our web page)? I hope this is clear. Thanks, Cole

Duplicate content issues with products page 1,2,3 and so on
Hi, we have this products page, for example of a landing page:
On-Page Optimization | | Essentia
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/australian-made/gift-ideas and then we have the link to page 2,3,4 and so on:
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/products.php?c=australian-made&p=2
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/products.php?c=australian-made&p=3 In SEOmoz, they are recognized as duplicate page contents.
What would be the best way to solve this problem? One easy way i can think of is to nominate the first landing page to be the 'master' page (http://www.redwrappings.com.au/australian-made/gift-ideas), and add canonical meta links on page 2,3 and so on. Any other suggestions? Thanks 🙂0
