Faking headings, good or bad?
-
Recently i got into a discussion with someone regarding the use of headings on an e-commerce website.
i had used headings whenever a heading was used in the design, they all marked the subject of the given section.
For example: The sidebar contains items for filtering products. Each filter had a
containing the name of the filter, like colors or brands.
The discussion i had was about whether the use of headings was appropiate because the words contained within the heading had nothing to do with the main subject of the page (Soccer in this case).
The advice from the SEO agency was to replace the headings with a different html element like a div or span and style this so it looks like tge heading in the design.
What do you guys think?

Given they were
tags and not something more powerful like an
, I'm not sure how detrimental it would've been, however, I think your SEO agency is right to change the HTML element to something else.
How the
tags were being used was outside their initial design (page hierarchy and design), as davebuts pointed out above.
-
I agree with your SEO agency.
Heading tags should be used to provide a hierarchy for the content on a page, not just to format text.
Heading tags should be avoided in page templates where they are not relevant in demonstrating the hierarchy of content on a page - ie. in the header, main navigation, sidebars and footer.

Good sources of information for product page SEO from a manufacturers perspective
I'm working with a manufacturer whose product copy is used by many many many retailers online. This copy is typically exactly the same or very similar to their own brand website. We're ok with that as most of the time our brand website is seen as the source of the information. Retailers, however, aren't so ok. Understandably they want unique product description content but we can't supply that for every retailer. So I want to acknowledge that whilst unique product copy is important there are other factors that they should consider such as site usability, the frequency and recency or ratings/reviews, etc. I've skimmed through google and reviewed the message boards and can see a number of posts touching on this topic but I wonder if anyone can recommend good sources or care to share their insights? Thanks in advance

and
http://www.farnorthkennel.com/german-shepherd-puppies-the-girls/emerald I thought that this sort of structure was a good idea since the end page is different. Should each page be set up right after the original domain name? I'm new at this....0 -

Time lag to see effect on rankings after a good optimization
Once you do an optimise / make some (hopefully positive!) changes to pages re keywords etc - how long does it take for you to move up the rankings - if indeed you do actually move up... I made some changes last week and see some slight movement this monday - can I expect more of a movement over a period of a few weeks? Or does it take longer? Maybe tricky question to answer but hopefully you know what I mean...
