SEO for replicated website system
-
I have a client who has 750 agents. They want to provide them all with a website on a subdomain (mysite.domain.com). The sites will all contain basically the same info, however, this info can be customized on each site by each rep. Most of these reps sell pretty much the same thing, so the customization wont be very dramatic.
So the question is, how can we build this replicated website system and deliver SEO value to each site?
-
I would send each agent a questionnaire. It would be an email or webform with fields that can be extracted. It would contain questions about the employee's education, experience, and a couple optional personal items. This will give unique content about the agent.
The questionnaire would also ask for information about the office location, phone number and directions on how to get there. Include a map, a photo of the building, a photo of the agent. This will include enough information to optimize the agents page for local search.
Fields in the questionnaire enable it to draw information that will be used by a program to complete a unique title, meta description and
, etc. tags. The goal of this is to construct an optimized page that will draw local traffic
I would not leave it up to the agent to edit this information on the website.
Once a year, each agent will be sent to a questionnaire that contains information from last year. They can edit or approve. New agents will be asked to complete a new form or edit the form of the person who they replace.
Finally, I would not place these on subdomains. They would be organized in folders. Then you can draw information from all of the questionnairs to construct category pages for major geographic areas such as states or major cities.
Done right, these questionnaire can be used to produce agent pages and many other pages that will compete in local, regional and other categories of search.

put rel=canonical on each profile of agents. Keep you can remove duplicity by creating more & more information about agent.

Do Blog Tags affect SEO at all anymore?
We're trying to standardize the use of tags on our site amongst writers/editors, and I'm trying to come up a list of tags they can choose from to tag posts with - and telling them to use no more than 10 (absolute maximum) per post. We are also in the process of migrating to a new CMS, and have 8 defined categories that will all have their own landing page within our "News" section. TLDR: Do blog tags have any impact on SEO anymore? Are they solely meant to help users find articles related on popular topics, or does creating a tag for a popular topic help to improve organic visibility? Full Question: With the tag standardization, I want to make sure we're creating the most useful and effective tags; and the UX/SEO sides of my brain are conflicted. To my understanding, creating a tag about a high volume topic in an industry helps establish the website's relevance to Google/other search engines about that topic and improves overall relevance; but the tag feed page (ex: http://freshome.com/tag/home-protection/) isn't really meant for organic search visibility. So my other question is, is it worth it to noindex the tag pages in the robots.txt? Will that affect any benefit to increased relevance for Google (if there is any)? I'm interested to hear others' thoughts and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Re-naming pages without affecting SEO
Due to the management software used for a lot of our websites, the URLs for specific pages appears as: brand.com/page/pagename/number I want to add slug URLs so that they appear as: brand.com/pagename First of all, do you think this is an effective use of my time and will it significantly benefit SEO in the long run. Secondly, these pages have developed a decent PA over time and I don't want to lose that. Will adding 301s for all the renamed pages be enough to not have a negative effect?

Optimizing E-Commerce Category Pages For SEO
Hey, Does anyone have any tips for optimizing e-commerce category pages? Looking to add content to each category page but not sure where to put the content i.e. above the footer? Above the search results? In the left hand nav bar? Have a landing page which they click through to see search results? If anyone has any good examples or tips it would be much appreciated. cheers David

Is On Page SEO Dead?
Hey Guys, Search Engine Roundtable has published a short post about this a few days ago, quoting senior member at WebmasterWorld forums who said: "The way I see it, on-page text today is for the "relevance" part of the total algorithm. The whole algorithm is, in broad strokes, "relevance + connectedness + quality". After you've clearly stated the relevance of the page, then the rest of your ranking power comes from elsewhere. I've added on-page bold tags with no effect. I've added or changed h1 elements with no effect. Not too long ago, those might well have done something, but that's not the game anymore. And moving from a table layout to a CSS-P layout today might get you nowhere, too. It all depends how deeply complicated the table layout was, I think." http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4408395.htm Is it true? Is on-page SEO really dead? What do you think?

Can embedding videos from other sites help SEO?
I work for an eCommerce site and many of the vendors we get our products from have videos our their site that explain how the products work and the different features of them, ect. We really have done nothing with video marketing, and would like to create some of our own unique videos, but this will be impossible for the vast majority of the products on our site. We know from a content standpoint embedding videos from our vendors to our product pages will be beneficial, but at the same time it shows our competitors and other site visitors where we are getting our products from which we would rather not do. How will this effect us from an SEO standpoint though? Will it help us to have new content, even though it is embedded from another site? Or will it hurt us because it is not unique? Or will it have no effect at all? Thanks for you help!
