Good content but high bounce rate

Hi all,
We run a website offering specialist turkey tours and gulet cruises. Our website holds a few information and recipes pages which are doing well in the engines and bring in alot of traffic. However these pages are crippling our bounce rate with bounces of about 80-90%.
The time on site for these pages are above the websites average, but it seems that once the reader has finished with the information/ recipe, they bounce back to the Search engines.

We have thought about moving and redirecting these pages from our main site to a new website, but we are worried that it may effect our position in the SERP's.
Can anybody offer any advice on this?

Well, the recipes are pretty standard fodder, cant imagine them attracting much. Just seems like a weird diversion of effort to me.

Maybe the recipes and the quizzes will attract lilnks? Lots of sales sites are powered by links to freebie content.

Why do you care about bounce rate?
You are trying to sell cruises to people who are looking for recipes, of course your bounce rate will be high. Adding quizzes or whatever isnt going to help you sell cruises.
Stop worrying about bounce rates on recipe pages and get selling cruises to people who want to go on a cruise

One further question...if these methods still can't get the bounce rate down. Would it be a good idea to remove the content (to a new site and redirect) or should we just live with the high bounce?

I agree with EGOL's suggestion. After looking at your site I would recommend using a lot more anchor links. Your use of anchor text is confined entirely to the last paragraph which seems to be tacked on as an afterthought. Take a look at a wikipedia article on a similar topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perdeli_pilav.
The links offer readers an easy opportunity to drill down and find relevant information as they are naturally reading an article. Many readers have developed a form of tunnel vision that allows them to filter out sidebars but they still see the anchor links. A couple small images such as found in the wiki article would be helpful as well. The images can contain links to an image gallery on your site.

I have some pages on my site that regularly get read and then the reader immediately bounces back to the search engine. What I did is put a few links at the bottom of the content to some cool tools that I have on my site. It says something like, "Check out our ____ calculator!"
Some other examples of content that might drive them in further:
-Quizzes (people love doing quizzes)
-Awesome photos
I did check out your page and the links that you have at the bottom are not enticing enough. Make it really obvious that they could get some more good and relevant information on another page of your site.
I do have an additional thought though - it may be hard to decrease the bounce rate on a recipe page. I mean, if I'm looking for a recipe I'm not really browsing for information like I do for other searches. Once I've found the recipe I'm likely not going to want to do a quiz. But...what I might want is to see photos of this recipe...that may help!

Offer the visitor something else to read.
Make highly related content and offer links to it with colorful thumbnail images and inviting text descriptions. Place these links in obvious locations within the content and beside the content.
Go to top newspaper sites like NYT and LAT and note how they have links to "what's hot" "Recommended" "most viewed".

Conversion Rate Benchmarking and Optimization
Hey everyone! I run the marketing for an ecommerce marketplace and we're doing good on the SEO front of things, with 60%+ of our traffic coming in via search and we're ranking for some competitive keywords. I'm really curious about the conversion rate though. Despite intensive googling, I've not been able to find a rough benchmark for conversion rates. Our conversion rate is about 1.2%, increasing as we continue to do more optimization work with regards to the site's usability. While we track other forms of conversions, the 1.2% conversion rate is for bookings through the site, which is our main source of revenue. Does anyone have a reference guide for conversion rates, particularly for ecommerce marketplaces? I'd like to know if we're doing ok or really bad, and also to take reference from other similar sites to improve our conversion. Thanks!!

Is putting an email address in the page title a good idea?
As our Contact Us page title was a little short I added in sales@example.com So "Contact us : Sales@example.com" We don't get a lot of spam and it hasn't noticeable increased since we did this. Tynt suggests that a reasonable number of people have copied and pasted the email - presumably to contact us Is it worth experimenting with further or a waste of time?

Conversion Rate boost - Website Feedback
We are a relatively young company with an Okay conversion rate of around 2% across several different sales channels. I am mentioning this because our website with the same type of products has a very low conversion rate of under 1%. Conversion Rate - site feedback
Hi We gave a website a bit of a facelift last nov with the aim of increasing its position within Search Engines and getting it to begin making sales. The site: www.funkyfootstools.com is now moving in the right direction for its keyphrases, footstools and ottomans although it still needs some work. The issue I have is that from the visitors that come to the site, the stats prove they have a look around, they are just not purchasing - I am not sure if this is because of the layout, ie. usability or if there is something else. Any idea why my bounce rate could be so high?
Hello Everyone, I'm stumped. My primary website has a horrendous bounce rate of around 75% My domain is www.radicalmarketingsolutions.com My home page has a bounce rate of around 68%. The funny thing is, I have a page on Google Analytics basics for small business owners that is my 3rd top page for content, I have an average time on page of over 3 minutes yet my bounce rate is 90%. I have another page on how to depersonalize your google searches in Chrome and Firefox that is a top page with a time on page over 5 minutes and this page has a bounce rate of 96%! I felt that my old design was really hurting me so I changed the design in the beginning of this month and it does not look like it's helped much. I really simplified the site, created a lot more white space and added some links to my other important pages in hopes to get more click throughs. I would really love some honest "constructive" feed back on my site as to why the bounce rate could be so high. I have a ton of content on my blog and I get a lot of positive feedback. One thing I did not do was exclude my IP from Analytics so I could be influencing the numbers. I've added this filter and hoping this will help. Another issue is I do email my list with each new blog post. This could mean those folks visit the post and then leave without reading anything else on my blog. So this could be hurting me as well. Duplicating Product Titles in the Page-Content
I have been debating this with a few others within my office and we would like an outside opinion on this issue. This screenshot is of a new product grid I have been designing. I have decided to try something new for SEO that I have seen elsewhere. (see attached image) The page-content below the last products on the page, now have a small paragraph that contains all the products "titles" that are visible on the page. The intention is to capitalize on multiple search terms by using modifiers to replace special character sets within the title. For example: 46" 3 Seat Perforated Square Picnic Table = 46 Inch 3 Seat Perforated Square Picnic Table Not only does this give a secondary search term that could convert but increases the number if instances of "Table" within the page. What is a good closing ratio? I am at 32%
I have a client I landed about 1 1/2 months ago. The only traffic coming to the site is from Google Adwords. The goal page is the "Get A Quote" page and the closing ratio is 32.4%. So about 1 in 3 visits fill out the quote form. I usually do eCommerce and I am used to seeing 2-3% goal conversions. But 32.4%???? Is that normal for a regular static site (non-ecommerce). It's been like that for a whole week! Should I toot my own horn here?
