About Page - optimization keywords ideas
-
I am interested to know your thoughts on which keywords to target for your about page.
While most keyword strategies are about creating or optimizing pages on categories. This is great for product/service page ideas, but I never know what my about page should come up for.
Should it just be your name or can you utilize this page to capture some categories or keywords that are difficult to rank for; I.e We rank well for "web design [location]" not so well for "[location] web design"

Sorry, Andy. I must be tired. I have edited it now

Hi Rod,
Agree with Andy you're not really looking to target that page, however in my opinion i think you can utilise this page for more about company and prodcuts related keywords. Such as "Our Design services" , "Our B2B sulotions" etc.
-
Ahh you said Homepage above. "...which keywords to target for your home page"
The about us page isn't really one that you want to be SEOing for any of your key phrases. It's just a page that gives you some opportunity to tell your story and background. It isn't something that people would necessarily visit to purchase a product or service.
Is there a reason you are trying to get more people to it?

My home page is doing well. It's the "about us" page that is getting very little traffic.

Hi Rod,
Your Homepage is literally an overview page and is also more about your brand overview - it is a bit of everything that introduces you.
I tend to map out the pages on a site and then look at what I have, what keywords should be aligned with those pages and then expand the keyword research to see what else it would make sense to talk about.
For your Homepage, if all you do is web-design, then something like "Brand Name | A Florida web design agency" - you get the idea.
Try not to be too specific and leave room in your keyword / page map to optimise your internal pages that drill down to skills you want to talk more about.

My keywords have low search volume - is it still worth starting a blog?
I'm thinking of starting a new blog, but when I did my keyword research I found that my keywords all have low search volume (under 100 searches per month, with the occasional keyword having 480 searches a month). Is this a deal breaker? Any recommendations would be great - thanks everyone!

Renaming web pages vs new web site
I am struggling with renaming a lot of my web pages because I used short form acronyms vs long form keyword page names and now my pages aren't ranking where they should be and used to be. I am weighing a whole new web site or just a massive update with new page names. I also have an old domain that 301's to the new url but the old one outranks the new one. If you search google for cheap tubes the first domain you see is www.cheaptubesinc.com (the 301'd version) when the real url is www.cheaptubes.com. I know I am getting a duplicate content penalty and when moz crawls my site they see 2X the page that I really have. I tried fixing this with canonical tags but it only helped 5 pages according the moz crawls since doing them. Since last July 4th my business has been declining and I know there was an SEO algorithm update last July 4th. I think either method of renaming the web pages with better SEO for instance cheaptubes.com/single-wall-carbon-nanotubes.htm vs cheaptubes.com/swnts.htm as it is currently. In either case, it is still an HTML 2 website done on frontpage and the question I keep asking myself is if I should just scrap the whole site and start over with a more modern format. Should I try to get a new site together with good SEO and publish it quickly vs rename and 301 a bunch of pages? What about the old site? Do I need to track the old page names and 301 them to the new ones? Any help is appreciates Mike

Google Slower to Trust New Pages than One Year Ago?
It seems to me that Google is slower to trust (and rank) new pages today than in the past. I used to be able to put up a new page and it would go right to the top of a competitive SERP. For about the past year when I launch a new page it starts deep in the SERPs, sits there for a few weeks, then starts slowly moving up. These pages still eventually rank on the first page of Google - often at #1 or #2 after wikipedia or another strong site - but it can take a few months to get there, several months in a competitive SERP. These are not "hot news" topics where freshness is an important factor. Instead they are product pages or general information articles. Anybody else seeing this? [ Just stabbing in the dark here... I am wondering if Google is relying more on visitor behavior these days and the delay is while they collect data?... Just stabbing in the dark.]

Blog and keyword advice
Hi, i am going to add a blog to my site to encourage more visitors as well as encourage google to visit the site more often but i am concerned on a couple of things. The blogs will be on weight loss hypnotherapy, anger management therapy and also gastric band hypnotherapy and i am concerned that by writing a number of articles on this topic that by using the keywords it will lower my rankings for the following keywords, gastric band hypnotherapy, anger management therapy, weight loss hypnotherapy. To help you understand more, i have three sections which are gastric band hypnotherapy, anger management therapy, weight loss hypnotherapy, which rank well with google and i am worried that if i write about these subjects in my blog that it will reduce my rankings. Should i reduce the number of times i use the word gastric band hypnotherapy in my new blog articles and say only say the word once or twice so google does not thing that is my main page on the subject. any help would be great.

Does a Google Map on the contact page help with SEO?
In regards to ranking organically for local search results (not google places), I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a Google Map on my Contact page with our location pinned? If so, how important do you think it is?

Block Low Quality Pages?
What are your thoughts on blocking (in robots.txt) and/or noindexing low-quality pages to defend against Panda, assuming you can't remove, redirect, or add quality content to it? Also, assume there are no external links pointing to these low-quality pages, no social shares, and zero incoming organic traffic. Has anyone had experience with this as a solution to Panda?
