Instructional Videos on Separate Websites
-
Am I doing this correctly?
We have 3 websites and shoot a lot of instructional videos on how to use our products. I build a webpage for the video and put it on all three websites, using rel="canonical" on 2 of the videos pages, pointing to the single most important page, is this the right method?
TY
KJrPS: I also do this for press releases.

Hi Kevin
Yes, this is absolutely the right method. You won't rank for the video on the two pages with the canonical but I guess you have a reason for this but cross-domain rel-canonical is the correct way to do this,
I would also consider transcribing the video on the important page too for maximum SEO juice.

Writing cornerstone content for a shop (eCommerce) website
Hi there I am trying to optimise my site to the best that it can be. Since the most recent Google updates, everything that I reading is saying cornerstone content with lots of valuable content is a really good strategy as it tells Google what is the most important content on your site. Writing articles that are well structured and have give the user a detailed overview of that subject. Lots of top SEO's are saying 3000 words plus on these pages. My question is, how do I go about this with and eCommerce site? Obviously that majority of the keywords that I want to target are product related and these are the pages that I want to come up in the search. How do I go about creating cornerstone content for these pages? I am thinking that one of my cornerstone pieces of content would be "The Ultimate Guide to [my main product category]". But that product has numerous products related to it, all of which have their own keywords, so how would this help the products to rank? The site had two main product categories, with numerous products under each of those categories. The two main categories are targeting my best performing keywords, but currently the landing page for these is the main product category pages. I am really struggling to work out the best strategy here. The content that I have on my actual products pages is comprehensive and covers a lot of detail about that particular product and has started to rank for product keywords, but I am guessing Google wouldn't consider that to be cornerstone content. I hope this make sense. Any advice anyone can give would be really useful. Many thanks in advance

Seeking guidance setting up hreflang en-gb for international english website and en-us for North American site
Our website is configured like so: MyCompany.com Websites /en-gb - International English /fr-fr /zh-hans /m/en-us - North American site - completely different structure The first three bullets share a Drupal instance where the North American site uses a different PHP framework and has it's own unique look and structure. Currently none of the websites have hreflang tags which means that sometimes when searching in the US the en-gb results creep in. I want to turn on hreflang tags for the international english website (en-gb) but my fear is that Google may not return the en-gb results to English speaking users if they are not in the UK. We want these results to appear for anyone who is not in the US who speaks English. Just a note, Canada is not included in this since they'll be added to the North American site soon and will have their own hreflang tags.

Website server errors
I launched a new website at www.cheaptubes.com and had recovered my search engine rankings as well after penguin & panda devestation. I'm was continuing to improve the site Sept 26th by adding caching of images and W3 cache but moz analytics is now saying I went from 288 medium issues to over 600 and i see the warning "45% of site pages served 302 redirects during the last crawl". I'm not sure how to fix this? I'm on WP using Yoast SEO so all the 301's I did are 301's not 302's. I do have SSL, could it be Http vs Https? I've asked this question before and two very nice people replied with suggestions which I tried to implement but couldn't, i got the WP white screen of death several times. They suggested the code below. Does anyone know how to implement this code or some other way to reduce the errors I'm getting? I've asked this at stackoverflow with no responses. "you have a lot of http & https issues so you should fix these with a bit of .htaccess code, as below. RewriteEngine On
On-Page Optimization | | cheaptubes
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^.*$ https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L] You also have some non-www to www issues. You can fix these in .htaccess at the same time... RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] You should find this fixes a lot of your issues. Also check in your Wordpress general settings that the site is set to www.cheaptubes.com for both instances." When I tried to do as they suggested it gave me an internal server error. Please see the code below from .htaccess and the server error. I took it out for now. BEGIN WordPress <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on RewriteRule ^.$ https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www. RewriteRule ^(.)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]</ifmodule> END WordPress Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@cheaptubes.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.0 -

Best place for tutorial videos on e-commerce site
Just wondering where I should put my tutorial videos on my e-commerce site. I have two options 1. On the category pages - this makes sense as the videos are related to the products within the category 2. Create a help section of the website that would host all the help videos. Which would be better for ranking and usability? Thanks

I want to place reviews from a review site also on my client's website, what's the right way to do that?
My client is doing a good job fitting rooftops out with solar panels. his customers are happy and ready to show this in online reviews. He has a partnership with a review site that gives him new leads, but I just don't want him to lose this valuable reviews just to this one review site.. Here's what i came up with and I love to hear your opinion on this;
On-Page Optimization | | JoostDerks
I'll copy the content of the solarpanel review site, place it on my client's website in hreview. the contents canonical will be rightfully set to the review site, this way I want to avoid the duplicate content thing, but get the hard earned yellow stars in my client's SERPs. and show the visitors of my clien't s site what a great job he is doing, on his own website.. This is the first time I thought of this solution and I wonder if I'm forgetting something.. Is this solution safe with Google/Bing/Yahoo?0 -
