How to compete with SEO giants

Simple as that you have strong analysis skill then you can compete your SEO giants easily Here is an example of that bed sheet that wraps around mattress by which you came to know about technique

Be better at a small part of it. Some areas are tough to compete in as you need to start optimizing against massive SEO sites. Think about the Tripadvisor, Indeeds, etc., of this world that has been in the game for many years. They have tens of millions of users from searches every month. But where you can still win often is to take a small part of that you want to rank for and go nuts on optimizing that. Those types of sites have in common that they have to do SEO at scale, so they aren't able to focus on minor details or optimize content continuously on a specific topic. As a small player, you have the ability to do that often, and so you're slowly building out your way on how to compete with them. With the ability to have high-quality content, you're also able to start driving the same links as those giants will have.
I realize this answer isn't very tactical, but hopefully, you get the point of view from this that will help you start planning out what it's all about to rank better against them.

Lightboxes and SEO
Do lightboxes (AKA popup boxes when you click "learn more" type CTAs) have any negative effect on SEO? We are looking at revamping our sites to have more of a tiled approach, and a lightbox with summary content popping out with additional CTAs, directing to pages with more information or free trial pages. Is there any downside to this approach from an organic perspective? is there anything specific to keep in mind when creating these if not?

Seo Technical Audit - Trustworthy, competent and competitive firms
Hello, We are a fairly largish site designed for user generated content (forum). We have been around for over a decade and are looking to get a proper seo audit done so that we can use the inputs from the audit to build upon our seo strategy. I went through the seo recommended pages and found that the options are priced high. Are there any competent and reasonably priced firms that are known to do a great job of the audit?

Is CloudFlare bad for SEO?
I have been hit by DDoS attacks lately...not on a huge scale, but probably done by some "script kiddies" or competitors of mine. Still, I need to take some action in order to protect my server and my site against all of this spam traffic that is being sent to it. In the process of researching the tools available for defending a website from a DDoS attack, I came across the service offered by CloudFlare.com. According to the CloudFlare website, they protect your site against a DDoS attack by showing users/visitors they find suspicious an interstitial that asks them if they are a real user or a bot...this interstitial contains a Captcha that suspicious users are asked to enter in order to visit the site. I'm just wondering what kind of an effect such an interstitial could have on my Google rankings...I can imagine that such a thing could add to increased click-backs to the SERPs and, if Google detects this, to lower rankings. Has anyone had experience with the DDoS protection services offered by CloudFlare, who can say a word or two regarding any effects this may have on SEO? Thanks

Widgetbox.com Widgets - SEO Tomfoolery?
We recently revived a slew of industry-specific widgets that we had created on Widgetbox.com largely for SEO purposes. The widget is remote-hosted and just a static HTML cache page showing information, so all Widgetbox does is wrap that HTML page in javascript to show it. However, I realized that when Javascript is disabled there's no link back to our website, just 4 or 5 back to Widgetbox. When Javascript is enabled we have a simple link back to our website at the bottom of the widget. I know Google has the ability to crawl Javascript now, but what do you think about this, will these links count? I could find virtually 0 information about it elsewhere. I'm thinking I may just add several widgets to another website to see if Google picks up the links.

What is your best one sentence definition for SEO?
I have recently come across several bloggers that have been trying to formulate the best concise definition of SEO. What one sentence definitions have you used / seen? Avoid run-ons. Tweetable, even better.
