Title optimization best practices for clients with insanely long business names
-
How do others utilize keywords and preserve branding in the title tag for clients with a REALLY long name? Two examples.
Example 1: Business name is 38 characters long in the following format:
[Firstname] [initial] [Lastname] [Businesstype] Services
38 characters is workable, but the keywords for what he offers and this industry in general are long too. He abbreviates to his initials in the domain name - I don't love doing that as the acronym has a meaning of its own. (We unintentionally acquired at least one very amusing if useless backlink thanks to that.) Leaving off "Services" saves a few characters.
Example 2: Business name totals 58 characters and references their two related lines of business. Similar to:
Rogers Institute of Robotic Studies and RIRS Robot Repair
or (saves a few characters)
Rogers Institute of Robotic Studies and Robot RepairHow would you handle that? Use the appropriate half of the name on pages related to that particular LOB? Only use the brand on some pages? Abbreviate more? I've been using their full name on the more "general" pages of the site and omitting it in favor of keywords on the more specific pages .
Suggestions? Other ideas?

As mentioned in the other responses go for the targeted keyphrase in the Title Tag if you haven't got enough room to append the company name.
I have come across individuals or organisations that have been adamant that they want it in for "branding" reasons.I just show them the analytics report of more people searching for the service than the brand or if its not an existing site the Google estimated local search volumes.
Usually the figures will win out over any potential vanity.

Are users likely to use his name when searching for his site, or are they more likely to search for the kind of service he offers? if the later then forget his name in titles (except maybe the home page). IMO the title should match the likely search query for optimum SEO. And repeating the brand in every title is a waste, IMO. If you have 10 pages optimized for 10 different search queries then the title of each should be (or at least begin with) the likely search query that each page is optimized for.

I don't know why everyone has such a fascination with putting their brand name in the title. This is a useless tactic in my opinions. Just make the first words of your meta description be the brand name and save that valuable real estate in the title for the actual keywords that apply relevantly to what the product or service is.
I would advise leaving the brand name out of the titles entirely.

Title tag terminology on website
Hi,
On-Page Optimization | | KasperGJ
I own a website (www.maleribasen.dk), which i'm currently making SEO on. The site actually ranks pretty good, top 1-2 on important searches. The title tag on the frontpage (and lots of other pages too) are "Maleribasen.dk - Buy and sell paintings" (translatated from danish - Maleri means painting). I'm thinking of changing the titles to "Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk" And then try to use the convention "| Maleribasen.dk" on every other title page. Sometimes use "Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk" as convention when title is too small. Like the overview of articles would be something like "Articles - Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk" A specific article would be "How to paint using oil painting | Maleribasen.dk" What do you guys think?0 -
How to optimize Google Places listing?
I have a couple friends who need more traffic from their Google Places listing. They are in very niche businesses. One is a home remodeling contractor and one is a music teacher. Does anyone know some good services to help optimize their listings? I feel I've helped them out as much as I can by getting real reviews to their Google Places page. But I feel that someone who's had the experience in Google Places optimization can pick up on something I'm overlooking.

How long does it take Google to index new title tags and meta descriptions?
Hi, I have launched a website ( www.bookkeepingking.com )and would like Google to reflect the latest title tag changes in its results. How long does it typically take to happen? I believe this might be one reason why the site may not be generating any search traffic yet, even though I haven't yet begun any link building yet. A couple of notes: When I enter site:bookkeepingking.com in the search box, the pages show up, but with the old/default title and meta descriptions. I am using the Yoast for SEO plugin I have resubmitted the XML map - Yoast created 2... /page-sitemap.xml and /post-sitemap.xml The changes were made about 1 week ago. WMT says that there are zero errors. Is there something I may have missed? Or do I just need to give it more time? Thanks in advance for your help. Erin

Domain Name and On-Page SEO
Where are the best places to put your Domain name in On-Page SEO? My domain name ends in .net so I would like to put it as many places as possible to brand the .net . On the analysis page I have found out that it is not a good idea to put it in the title page...but that is what the SEO guy I hired told me to do. Thanks, Utah Tiger

Would adding a line break tag into the product name affect SEO ranking and Google's ability to read the entire title?
Our client would like to include a link break so that part of the product name always showed up on a second line. Would this affect how Google bots crawl the product name? Would it also affect how Google would show the product name in a search result page? Thanks!

Value of Domain Names
Hello, I have an ecommerce site that sells personalized gifts. I am wondering about the value of purchasing domain names for specific products and have them point to a landing page. For example: the domain name personalizediphonecases.com would point to my page of that product. Is that a good idea? Thank you!

Best way to optimize site for Google Maps?
I am working with a site right now and they are ranked #1
On-Page Optimization | | WhiteHat12
for many keyword phrases based on their location and service. Their service is an
Insurance agency, so they rank #1 for many keywords like “Miami Insurance” or “South
Florida Insurance Agency” (their not actually ranked for Miami
just giving an example). I also include their address on every page of the site
(maybe that better helps Google maps?). Problem I am having is when searched
just the keyword phrase they rank number 1 but when searching say “insurance”
while being logged in to the area they rank for they do not come up. I hear that
there might be specific ways to optimize for this. What I would like to know is
what would I have to do to optimize for Google maps and what’s everything I possibly
can do. I am good with search engine optimization but have never really dabbled
much with Google Maps, I always thought they just ranked you based on your
address.0 -
How? Title in Google differs than actual title tag
Just curious on how sites do this? If you search for a video (perhaps Green Lantern Trailer), you'll see the YouTube results in Google/Bing listed as YouTube - Green Lantern Trailer but when you go to the page, the actual title tag displayed is Green Lantern Trailer - YouTube I've seen other sites do this too. I'm just curious what they are doing (I don't see any other title tags in the html)? I thought your title tag is what is displayed in SERP? Thanks,
