Natural Anchor Text distribution for brand = main keyword
-
Dear folks,
I will start link building for my all new site www.buy-hosting.net and would greatly appreciate your opinion about some questions:
1.) How many links would you in my place seed per day? I plan to start with directory links and sincere, useful contributions in blogs and forums, with my URL in the signiture.
2.) Natural anchor text distribution:
My brand Buy-Hosting.net ist the same as my main targeted keywords "Buy Hosting". However, I also want to have a natural looking link profile, so I would seed links like "Click here" or "Windows Hosting" or "Webhosting" as well. How would you distribute die Anchor Text Precentage ?
E.g. (60% Buy Hosting - 10% Windows Hosting - 10% Click here - 10% Joomla Hosting - 10% Hosting Reviews)? Does that make sense or is that already spammy?3.) How many No-Follow links would you seed (in %)?
4.) How many links (in %) would you seed to subpages, instead of the main page? Are there larger margins for Keywords, that eqal the Domain/Brand Name, without being conted as spam? Is there a good article about the natural distribution of anchor texts?
Your input is greatly appreciated and thoroughly considered.
Thank you and kind regards -
Thank you Mike,
I did the same research and agree with you. There are other keywords with way higher search volumes. However, it is very easy and fast to land for "Buy Hosting" and the coversion rates for this combination are super high, since people really want to buy NOW (otherwise, they would search compare hosting or something else).
As soon as I got to #1-#3 and cash starts flowing, I will take that money and tackle higher-volume terms. It's a step-by-step strategy.
My guess was to start with 10 links per day. I understand that you say, it is important to have a constant growth, and that this matters for not to be percieved as spammy.
I will check out MajesticSEO to see the amount of links other add.
Thank you a lot, I appreciate your opinion.
Kind regards -
Well, I just looked at the Google Keyword tool which says 'buy hosting' is entered 880 times per month (exact phrase, globally) and 'hosting' is 301,000 times per month. If you can make it on to page 1 for 'hosting' then you will probably get a lot more traffic. Yes, I recognize that it will be very difficult.
I'm not sure I would optimize for 'buy hosting' as your target phrase. Maybe some other closely related phrase? 'web hosting' is 246,000/month, 'website hosting' is 60,500, etc.
But if you are tied to 'buy hosting' then so be it. I don't think google will view 27% of your anchor texts as too spammy or over-SEOd. If you're worried about it then increase the variations part and do less exact.
Links/day depends on how many you already have and if you're going to have an ongoing process (which is best). If you can do 50/day for 6 months then do that. If you can only manage 5/day then do that. What you don't want is 500 in 1 week and then nothing (or close to nothing) for 2 months. That looks like you just bought 500 links.
You can use MajesticSEO.com to enter a url and see how many new links per day (or per month) your competitors have been adding. You may want to stay in that range.

Dear Mike,
thank you.
My target keyword combination is indeed "Buy Hosting", since to go for "Hosting" would be way to hard. My brand is also "Buy-Hosting.net".
The question is: If I combine the exact keyword % with the exact brand %, then I get 27% in your example. What I would like to know is, if that will become dangerously close to be seen as spam?
How many links would you aquire per day with an all new site?
Thank you for your input. I think this is a question, that many SEOs ask themselves.
Kind regards

I had this exact problem 6 months ago. I studied a variety of sites that appeared to have a natural link profile and came up with the following weights:
- 15% exact keyword
- 20% keyword variations
- 12% exact brand
- 13% brand variations
- 7% exact url
- 13% url variations (www.domain.com, domain.com, http://www.domain.com, domain.com/, etc)
- 20% useless ("click here", "this", "visit", etc)
I don't know if those are 'best' but I believe they look natural. Your keyword is probably 'hosting' not 'buy-hosting'; i think if people are looking for hosting they will enter 'hosting', not 'buy hosting' in the query.
Once you have more than 1000 inbound links the no-follows are a pretty small percent (like low single digit % on most sites).
As for home page vs sub-page it depends on how many sub-pages you have and how good the content on them is. I use 50% home page and 50% all other pages combined. The sites that I reviewed that I felt were natural seemed to have at least 50% of all external links to the home page (in some cases it was 70%).

Tooltip text
Will adding tooltip text to al my links improve my rankings? I read some article, but it's a hell of a job to add tooltip text to al my links. i was wondering if it's worth the time: A tooltip text appears if the mouse hovers over the image or a link and is provided by using the TITLE attribute. A description of the image or the link then appears in the tooltip in a small yellow box (Internet Explorer). The TITLE text (tooltip text) gives a short description of a link or image. The difference between an ALT text and the TITLE text is that the ALT text is a short description that replaces the image if the image does not load. The number of links (internal and external) and images must be equal to the number of tooltips for every page. The number of TITLE text can be higher because ALT text can also be used for other HTML elements. Add Title texts to links or images for those which do not have them yet. Thanks!

Anchor text after the recent Panda update
Hi everyone, I just read this article: http://goo.gl/GkgUr and I can confirm this is true because one of my websites drastically lost its rank last week due to high percentage of targeted keyword within back links. Thus, what I'm worrying about is the anchor text within back links. I'm about to launch a new web site soon that will be publishing lots of landing pages for a travel niche. What I initially thought is to optimize landing page by page, so when the current page ranks well to move on to next one and so on. I thought that, by ranking a single landing page well, will have some positive impact to the rest of landing pages. But, after a lot of time spent on studying link building strategies, I decided to spread back links among landing pages equally. I will try to get as much as possible back links from the relevant content and high quality sites (press releases, guest posting, link exchange, social networks promotion). Please correct me on this one if you disagree. According to the above article, the recent google panda update calculates a percentage of keywords among anchor text and it would be the best to keep those at less than 30%, including "link", "here", "domain.com" etc. For instance, lets say that my website counts 500 landing pages and every single one targets a different low competition exact keyword. So, if I start building back links equally for each of the landing pages and I want to cover each one with a back link from a relevant content, what should I use for the anchor text? Initially I thought the keyword should be the anchor text, but after I read the article I'm not so sure any more. I guess search engines would say something like: "Ok, there are 500 landing pages and 500 different anchor texts pointing to different pages that belongs to domain.com", perhaps this should increase TLD's authority but what will happen to the landing pages? Would search engines (primarily google) see them as a 100% single anchor text and harm the rank? I really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Over optimization of Anchor Text | Consequences, Guidelines, Precautions
Hi everyone. I am really worried because of the constant penguin and panda algorithms. I hired two or three SEO agencies and they did some link building for my pages a while ago. And just this time, our rankings dropped almost sitewide some 7-8 positions. I checked our link profile in this site , and we do not seem to have spammy links. I admit that we do have some low link quality, such as directories, blog posts, etc. And it seems to have 10-15 links with overoptimized anchor text, such as keyword exact anchor text, etc. I have a couple of questions regarding this matter? - What entitles an overoptimized anchor text? I mean, i can´t control people linking to me out there, and many of them used the product or brand name. Added to the fact that my former agency used article marketing links with exact keyword. - If i "overoptimized" my anchor text, what is the best solution?, I could change some anchor text by asking some people. Should i disavow, delete? What is your best bet here? - What is (May 27 2013) best practice for anchor text or link referall. I know it will keep changing, but i want to engage in the right practice right now. should link with www.domain.com/keywordpage.html, or how would one look natural? -I saw some recent links that are really strange to me. Could the competition be sending me some bad links in order to augment the situation. Is that something normal?, it sounds strange to me. Thanks for your valuable advice. I know many people are frustrated with these penalties and hits. Because there are still many sites with Mass EMDs, 3-page content, flash sites, that are ranking better than a high quality and engaging one. Any resource is more than welcome to recover from these dropped rankings. Regards,

Anyone used this service before? - Organic Content Distribution
I was pitched today by a "content syndication network" that claims to be able to syndicate across 200 "local news" sites along with syndicate the content to the editors and writers social sites, along with the publisher social sites for a flat fee. Just like a MarketWire.com service but NOT for press releases. For articles. The company offering this is www.befirstinc.com. Need to vett them out and make sure this is not a FTC nor Google Quality Guidelines violation for SEO purposes.

Good article distribution services?
Our site has a lot of content we are able to modify/distribute without too much time so I am planning to syndicate some of this using article distribution. Apart from Ezine articles, are there any other article distribution services I should/could consider using? I do know that I should also be focussing most of my resource on building high-quality links through guest blogs etc! However this seems like a relatively quick win. Thanks in advance

Trying to rank highly for specific keyword, any advice?
I run a boating site and its been live since early February. Most of my traffic comes from direct traffic or google, keyword "trawler blogs". However, I am trying to rank highly for the generic keyword "trawler" or "trawlers" and I've had very little success. My homepage just got an A from the on-page analysis for keyword trawler. I've also reached out to several other trawler sites to try to get a link from them, or a reciprocal link. Haven't had much traction. However, our site is listed on a bunch (10-12) trawler related blogs (mostly blogspot) in their blogrolls, although these don't show up in backlinks. Any advice would be great. Thank you!
