Can someone please help me identify where all these URLS to my homepage are coming from?
-
Hi. I installed the SEOmoz toolbar for Firefox, and analyzed my home page, then clicked on 'get a full site analysis at Site Explorer'. This is what came up:
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.frs-solutions.com%252Fcontent%252Fhome/a!links?src=mb
I hope that link works. If not, the URL is www.frs-solutions.com
Anyway, there are about 57 different URLS within my site all pointing to my homepage! I have no idea where they are coming from. Can someone with an experienced eye take a quick look and tell me what I might be up against?
Thank you!

April, my guess is that it's related to oscommerce or another login/ecommerce/trial purchase module. The oscsid parameter is from oscommerce. Someone logs in, then they get variables appended to the URLs so that they're tracked through the system. That's one place to tell your developer to look.

|Hi April,
Below is a list of URLs that your CMS is creating and linking to from somewhere on your site. The last 19 links are all duplicate content and don't seem to change based on the URL which is a huge problem. My suggestion is that you meet with your developer and make sure that you get rid of all these duplicate pages that are linking back to your home page.

Hi. Sorry to be a pain, but I really need help figuring this out. Richard, you said it appears that there is some sort of product sort being done here, but there is nothing on the website that allows users to do this. When I go into edit the site, I don't even see any of these links that are coming up.
I understand that there are 3 different URLS that lead to my homepage. But where are all these URLS such as http://www.frs-solutions.com/index.php/cPath/9_12 coming from? The majority of them seem to be after the index.php homepage URL.
Tom, you said all the pages on my site link to my homepage via the HOME link, right, but how does that explain these mysterious URLS?
I am so confused, and have wracked my brain trying to figure out where these URLs are coming from. Weird thing is when SEOmoz did their crawl, none of thee URLS even came up.
Any one want to take a stab at this? I am really new to SEO, so please explain things in detail. Thank you!

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. So, you are saying that all 57 links are pointing to my homepage via the HOME link. How can the HOME link contain 57 different links?? I am so confused. I understand that my homepage has 3 different URLS. But I don't understand what all those links are and how they can all be the HOME link. Can you please break it down in really simple terms?
Also, the crawl that SEOmoz just completed on this site didn't show any of those URLs......why would that be?

Hi April,
I'm a bit confused what you are asking. All the pages on your site link to your homepage via the 'Home' link in the navigation bar.
Your homepage has 3 urls:
http://www.frs-solutions.com/content/home
http://www.frs-solutions.com/index.php
Richard's suggested link will help inform you about this, certainly something you should fix.
Furthermore, OSE shows you have many pages it has crawled with the following URL pattern:
http://www.frs-solutions.com/index.php/SOMETHING
Notice the / after index.php, the page it is serving is index.php for all these pages, but the URLs can be confusing to search engines and visitors. You should address this with rel=canonical or with 301 redirects.
I hope this all makes sense! It is late!

You have 57 pages on your site linking back to your Home page. See image attached.
Click on each URL to see what page launches.
Looking at some of the URLs, it shows that there is a sort being done. Most likely from a product search where you might sort by price. This is where canonicals come in play.

301 and the base URL
Hi, please bear with me as I'm pretty new to all this! I've my base URL but obviously want to add keywords to it for seo purposes. Should I redirect from the base URL to the URL with the keywords appended? So my landing page goes from say www.moz.com to www.moz.com/keywords-here. If I do that, should I replicate all the meta data (descriptions etc) on the original landing page? Or does it not matter? Thanks, Nick

Does Google penalize you for reindexing multiple URLS?
Hello, Just a quick, question! I was wanting to know if multiple page indexing (site overhaul) could cause a drop in organic traffic ranking or be penalized by Google for submitting multiple pages at one time. Thanks

Is it OK to 301 redirect 1000s of duplicate random URLs to homepag?
Hello, We found a critical error in our site internal link structure and the way Google indexes it. Website has 1000s of URLs that are basically 50% match to homepage. They all start the same example.com/category/random/random I can do a redirect match and 301 them to homepage. This way 1000s of bogus url are not indexed and no value given. Is it OK to redirect so many URLs to homepage? Platform is creating these URLs because of search query, where it adds all site content to one page. Currently this search page /category / has own canonical and all those duplicate content URLs have canonical to that /category /. To fix my plan is to a. Remove canonical from /category / that way all those duplicate URLs don't have it either. B. Redirect match all URLs that have /category / in them to homepage. (this is most important page where 50% of that content is and should be the main page). Is this plan ok?

Translated the site but traffic is not coming
Hi, We've build a lawyer directory website (www.iranianlawyers.com) which already has good Google rankings for related terms (Ex. Iranian lawyers, Iranian lawyers california, etc). About 1.5 months ago we translated the site to Farsi and published it online: www.iranianlawyers.com/farsi However we have yet to see any new traffic generated from those pages. The website has a decent back-link profile and there are no almost no competitors in our space with translated pages. Would someone please take a look at our translated pages and let me know if there are any major on-site issues that you see that we need to address? I've checked for noindex or nofollow tags but they dont seem to be an issue. Not sure if I'm missing something here. Thank you very much

Url structure with dash or slash
Hi There We have a content website. We don't rank well category image related searches but we get quite good traffic for those keywords. Those keywords are mostly like "category images". We want to change our url structure and we have 2 options now. 1- domain.com/category/category-images 2-domain.com/category/images option 1 repeats the category name so it looks spammy option 2 doesn't really have the keyword. any ideas which one tho choose? Thanks! ps: we don't want to use domain.com/category-images (too many root link)

ECommerce URL's
This is based on a clothing retailer, eCommerce site. In an effort to reduce the length of our product names, we are considering removing terms like long-sleeve, short-sleeve, etc., but leaving that information in the URL. Now, the concern is that we would lose some traction in the SERP's if those descriptive words are left out as the product name is also our page title. Then I think keywords as broad as long-sleeve shirt wouldn't serve us well anyways. One idea we have is that the alt tag on the product image could still display the longer product name that would include long-sleeve, etc. thus having the keyword on the product page. Any ideas or suggestions? Hope this is clear. Seems redundant from a user standpoint to state long-sleeve, etc. in every product name. Thanks - your answers are always so helpful!
