Hi everyone,

During linkbuilding you often stumble upon those links you are not quite sure of. At first it may seem like a brilliant idea to get a link fom that site but on a second look it may be not.

So what would be a checklist of things to look for, if one is asessing a website's link quality? (e.g. how do you spot a bad neighborhood?)

If you are using SEOmoz tools for the quality asessment, which one would you use?

Some stuff I look for in a quality link:

Pagerank/MozRank

Other links on page - are there any pill/viagra or gambling/porn links? Anything else fishy? Skip it if so. Are there more than 50-100 outbound links on the page? That's a lot.

Google cache date - has it been cached within the last couple of weeks? The more recent the better.

Is the site relevant to your niche? What about the domain? Does it look like a dropped site? If so skip it.

How easy is it to get a link? Do they automatically take reciprocals?

And like Adam said, how is the content?

All of these factors can help, but really it also comes down to your gut feeling.

That's a bit tough to answer quickly, because there are so many things that could negatively affect the trust or authority of a website. A few include:

Other websites the page/site links to

Usage or gray or black hat tactics

Quality of content on the site

Overall quality of the site

Authority of the linking page

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link

Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Link building for eCommerce

I have an engraving site where I am looking to increase traffic/ sales. We do local engraving services and sell engraved products via eCommerce. Perfectindesign.com It seems to me that locally I can't compete since most search terms are washed over with every local directory in and around the city that are selling there memberships. So I thought I could compete nationally via the 200 products we carry. I have used site explorer to go through my competitors links. My findings show that other then their twitter accounts and dmoz listing most everything else are paid links and lots of them. Keeping in mind I have 45 root domains with 411 links to my site. Three competitors links data. I probably shouldn't name them right? competitor #1 1k root with 13.9k links competitor # 2 147 root with 16k links competitor # 3 427 root with 28k Should I just start buying these links that range from $10-50 per link or is this a waste of time? Are these truly my competitors or am I comparing my tiny site to the major leagues?

Hello, I have been doing link-building for my website since 2 of January. However those links are not in the Open Site Explorer. For example I have the DMOZ website pointing to my website and I cant see it in open site explorer! Why?? Tks in advance!

How might Google differentiate between an artificial link exchange and partners linking to each other?

Hi, All! Artificial link exchanges (contacting a vaguely connected site and requesting to exchange links to increase your PR) is, as far as I know, considered an outdated, not-so-smart technique, as Google might devalue them. Yet, for real business partners to exchange links seems to be an entirely accepted and encouraged technique. While that would be intuitive to a human who's viewing the pages. how might Google detect when two sites that link to each other are linking because they are trusted business associates (valuable) as opposed to when they are doing a link exchange (devalued)? How to Define Quality of External Website During Link Building?

I want to know about process, method or tool which can help me to define quality of external website during link building. We are searching too many questions and topics on Google to resolve daily mind bubbles which land us on different website with different subject. I found that, I was able to drop my website URL over there but confuse about quality of website. I am selling Football and create external link from baby care website. So, will it make sense? Are 36 links from one site to nested pages better than one link to the root domain?

I have a Driving School website www.1stclassdriving.co.uk. The site is structured geographically with 36 area pages, one
page per area post code and one page per Driving Instructor. I am trying to develop links and have found a site (da91 pa
