Our link building strategy - affiliates and trophies
-
Hey guys,
I just wanted to follow up on Rand's excellent whiteboard Friday: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/preventing-linkbased-penalties-whiteboard-friday
It got me worried I think, but I'm not sure.
We have a site where we are building up links in 2 ways:
-
We have an affiliate set-up. A search widget in an i-frame, and below the i-frame a followed link pointing to the relevant page.
The anchor text varies for each affiliate depending which region the affiliate comes from. -
We have awarded about 500 of our partners with trophies - i.e. - this partner has best reviews or most sales etc. Our partners are absolutely loving it.
The trophy is an image link which they can embed on their website, with alt text only mentioning our brand - that was an oversight ( I think). I wish the alt had been dynamically generated for each partner.
The trophies link to our partner pages.
So we are getting many links to our deeper pages, which is great.
The links I believe are relevant as they are coming from our partners websites and pointing to their relevant partner page on our website.
So burning question is. Would you consider these links dodgy given Rands recent whiteboard friday post, and the recent farmer algorithm change?
Many thanks,
Croozie

'Post response' deleted my answer. I'll try and remember what I said!
I think Rand's WBF was focusing largely on new websites with link portfolios that consisted almost entirely of 1000s of 'dogdy links'. Provided that your website is aged (and it sounds like it definitely is) and that you have a mix of natural and 'artificial' links then you have nothing to worry about.
While I don't know, I would imagine that Google takes far more kindly to image links than text links; simply because text links have much more weight and therefore more power to manipulate.
Anyway, you have a totally legitimate link building strategy and I would suggest that even if your site was brand new there wouldn't be an issue.

Link-Building Prospect Consolidation
Is there a way to consolidate link prospects in Moz or should we look for an external tool e.g. Raven Tools, Buzz Stream etc.? Thanks. 🙂

Should I embark on this long term link building campaign?
I've been planning to set out on a massive link building campaign for the term 'how to start a business' and I can't decide if it's a good idea or not. (Metrics attached - my site is the last listed and the ones above it are the top ranking for that term) The sites ranking for that terms are on very authoritative domains, but the page link profiles on each of them are poor. This is one of those moments where you think, 'Am I about to waste a tremendous amount of time?' My guide is extremely thorough and I had hoped with a MASSIVE amount of elbow grease outranking pages that had poor content value + only has 4 referring root domains. The problem is, I'm not sure if the powerful overall domain authority would still outrank my newer site. Should I follow through with that general guide or focus on less hard to rank and less searched content? Argh confusion GB3jcsJ.png?1

Link Building Cost
Can anyone share typically what a US Based SEO Agency should or would charge for creating good quality backlinks? All of the pages we are targeting have been optimized with quality content and are ranking half decent. The keywords we are targeting are med-high competition keywords. We've located a few offshore agencies with prices in the 100$ range for 10 keywords but are leery of moving forward, currently it's the cost we are paying for 1 Keyword here in the US. Thank You!

Since all the updates from Google I'm unsure as to whether I should be pursuing good quality back links and how many per month?for my website www.polesandblinds.com . Many Thanks I look forward to your suggestions/advice/criticism.

I want to design SEO link building strategy for my website? Is wordpress.com, squidoo, tumblr, blogger, typepad - Good option for link building?
I am currently concentrating on 8 keywords, for e.g (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H). I will be writing blogs with 2 of any related keywords present in it. I am thinking to post 5 blogs on 5 different platforms as (wordpress.com, Squidoo, Typepad, Tumblr, blogger) respectively. I am thinking a strategy as: Monday: Keyword A,B on Wordpress/ C,D on Squidoo/E,F on Typepad/G,H on Blogger/ A,C on Tumblr. Tuesday:C,D on Wordpress/E,F on Squidoo/ etc.... and will rotate these keywords through out the week and the cycle restarts on Monday. The URL for every keyword will be different and relevant to that keyword. I need quick suggestion on this topic..Please..

Current best link building practise
Hi guys, Just an open discussion. I don't want to be told to use directories or just 'guest blog'.. What is the best method you are currently using? A lot of my competitors are using older techniques for quick wins but we're wary to do that due to the long term consequences... Thanks

Link Building and Landing Pages
I'm embarking on my first link building campaign and I was wondering if its good practice to develop a specific landing page (a focused summary page) like I do in my PPC campaigns or should I use the URL to my homepage?
