I am redesigning my homepage completely. What criteria should I use to decide which pages to link to from the homepage?

This is a huge question and the answer depends upon the type of site that you have. Retail sites might focus on popular products, new products, special sale products, most profitable products.
You basically want to show visitors the things that they might find most interesting but at the same time link to things that you want visitors to discover.
For best advice tell us more about your site.

In my opinion this should be far more focussed on what a visitors wants to see here instead of what a search robot should encounter.
Make sure your main navigation is search engine friendly (no images, flash, javascript etc) so that all your main pages are linked there. You could choose to link to some of your latest or best articles (to show your visitors that your website is up-to-date), include some testimonials (to show you're credible). Perhaps in your footer you could include some partners (keep it natural), your privacy policy and terms of use?
Try asking your usability testers what they think should be on the main page and work from there.

Internal Website Linking from Syndicated Blog Posts
Does it help, hurt, or do nothing for my website's SEO if I do internal linking from syndicated blog posts (on my blog) to my website pages? For example, a syndicated blog post on winterizing your house has instances of "homeowners insurance" linking to my webpage on homeowners insurance. Proper canonicalization is done as well.

Is it urgent to have fewer than 100 internal links on a webpage?
Hi, Our website is set up so that our top menu is on every page, which means every page is going to have around the same amount of internal links (225-ish). Is this an issue that needs to be fixed for our pages to rank, or is it only a recommendation that doesn't really impact SEO that much? If it is the only issue listed for a particular page, is there another reason that page might not be ranking even though it has a 99 score? Or is because of having 225 internal links? I have many product pages on my website that have a 99 score on the Page Optimization with the only recommendation being an info that says not to have too many internal links. My understanding is that internal links are defined as any URL on a page pointing to another part of the same root domain/site. So, for example, my page: https://www.twowayradiosfor.com/Motorola-CP185-p/cp185-lkp.htm has 225 internal links in the source code for that page:

Where do I go to fix this issue if I need to get to below 100 internal links? Do I erase the links, or set up a no-follow tag? I appreciate any help or guidance.

Do the rules of “natural” linking apply to on-site crosslinking as well?
At an SEO conference I attended the speaker said that Google wants the anchor text of a link to be more natural. Specifically you mentioned that the anchor text should be the company brand, the domain name/URL or a call to action (ex. “Click here.”) I thought this was an interesting idea for offsite linkbuilding. BUT, my question is…Does the rule also apply for on-site crosslinking between my webpages? Is there potential harm or a benefit to adding keywords to the anchor text of the links within my site?

Webpage with around 200+ inter links per page
HI, I have a client that I recently took on and I run a SEOmoz crawl on the website and a minor error was that .. 1. web pages have more than 200+ interlinks, reason for this is becuase the client offers a service to every place in the world and then has links to contact us/about us etc those kind of pages. is this something we need to strongly avoid? 2. The title tags are all over the suggested amount by 1/2 letters. - again is this really bad?

Do you bother to nofollow links out to Facebook etc?
These days many sites link (often site-wide) to their social profiles on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.... etc Theoretical SEO on-page optimisation might condone adding nofollow to these links, but I have a feeling it might not do much in terms of conserving page authority and indeed might be a bit of an "over-optimisation" signal. Thoughts?

Relating forum discussions to improve internal linking
Hi all, I have a matter i would like a discussion about, since I am looking for a good solution. First the case: I have a site with a large community based discussion board. We daily have 40 to 80 active forum threads with average of 200 posts. As it is right now each thread page shows, at the bottom of the thread, the 20 threads with latest activity. From a SEO point of view this is not the best solution, since all thread pages passes link juice to the latest 20 threads. However, the threads change daily so the juice is sprayed around all over the place. What I want to do is related forum threads, such that each thread at the bottom shows up to 10 threads which could be of interest to the reader. In this way one thread will have more or less the same threads at the bottom at all time, unless the relevancy is better for other threads, causing som minor changes to happen over time. The question is, how can one do this? In the backend, the forum has two tables. One holding threads and one holding posts relating to the threads. All in all the system has 66.500 threads, and in total 469.000 posts. Every thread has a title, and the posts are of varying length. The threads have categories, but they are not so distinct that a thread in one category can not be related to a thread in another category. So I would like to make the relevancy from the title of the thread and the content of the forum posts. As of yet I have not come up with a good solution, and i will look forward to reading any feedback for this. I will answer any questions as fast as possible, to get a good discussion goint here. More than 100 internal links from a page
Hi, we have been developing our new site and improving the internal linking for 2 reasons, 1 to improve spidering and 2 to up sell more to customers. The error reports from SEOMoz are showing our biggest problem is too many internal links from 2000+ pages. How much of an impact does it have by having say 180 internal links compared to say 99 on a page? Our website has been moving up the SERPs so should i worry about it or should I ignore the warnings and continue with the menu system and internal linking we have in place already? Thanks

Removed listings: 404, internal links or redirect?
For a classifieds web site with medium/high turnover for the various listings: How would you deal with pages of removed listings? a) would you be "honest" and return a 404 since the listing is not available anymore? b) would you maintain historical data about deleted listings so that you can try and 301 redirect to a relevant search results page? c) would you keep the page alive (maybe add a noindex meta tag?) and show links to multiple relevant search results pages in an effort to strengthen internal linking?
