Wordpress Comment Spam is killing my blog: Help!
-
I am in charge of our company wordpress blog and we regularly update the content. However, we are getting hundreds of spam comments every week. To be honest I wouldn't care as they go straight into the spam folder BUT we are missing out on a few legitimate comments because it is so difficult and time consuming going through all the comments.
Does anyone have an ideas on how to tackle this and stop this? It would be really appreciated.

I think if Askimet doesn't work you should implement the facebook comments plugin.
-
Yes, yes, Askimet is awesome, but add WP Hascash plugin and you'll take it to another level, it stops the bots before they even have a chance to enter a spammy comment.
WP Hashcash is an antispam plugin that eradicates comment spam on WordPress blogs. It works because your visitors must use obfuscated javascript to submit a proof-of-work that indicates they opened your website in a web browser, not a robot. If the javascript check fails, WP Hashcash now gives you three options; it can either put the comment into moderation (default), put the comment in the akismet queue, or delete it.

If you are on Wordpress.com then Akismet is the way to go.
If you host the blog yourself then I would recommend placing a captcha plugin. Something like this - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peters-custom-anti-spam-image/. Stops most bots.

Dunamis is right, Askimet is the best way, and also if you're blog's links are nofollow it will help to deter at least some of it. Not all, as some of the automated stuff posts anyway, but some of it will only comment on dofollows, and it will stop some manual spam comments

Do you have the latest version of Askimet installed? I find it catches 99.9% of my spam.

Promoting our blog posts. Effective ways and planning.
Hi Guys. I work for TOAD diaries, we make personalised journals and diaries. So we've taken a dive into blogging recently to help with brand awareness/ loyalty and increase traffic to our site. We don't have much of a social media following. So I'd like to know about other effective ways to promote them. The advice seems to range from extremely obvious and generic on the one hand i.e) post it to your Facebook, twitter etc, to seriously in depth, using a multitude of tools I've never heard of. I mean it's pretty overwhelming 😕 So I'd like to focus down on 5 or 10 ways I can 'get it out there' effectively. Any thoughts? What are the essential tools/ techniques/ jobs I should be doing? Etc etc. Note on our blogs: They are very different from one another, so far we've done how to make an origami boat and paper vs digital: part 1. We're also working on a time management piece at the moment. So they're all to do with paper, stationery, organisation, planning ect. But like I say each blog post is quite varied. Thus the target market varies too. Also, do let me know what you think to the blog posts 🙂 Any area's we can improve upon? Cheers guys. Isaac.

Manual submission vs automated submission to social bookmarking sites for blog posts
Howdy Mozzers! Say we're creating great content on our blog and would like this content to be seen and shared by as many people possible. Should we submit our blog posts manually to social book marking sites or use an automated service like Only Wire? The advantage of using automation is obvious, saves time on submission. Are there disadvantages? Is google bot going to raise an eyebrow and give us a dirty look? Cheers! MozAddict

Should I post my upcoming blog series on my blog or on Google+
I am in the process of writing a series of blog posts covering one subject in more detail. Normally, I would just post my blog posts on my blog, but I have heard and read recently that posting content on Google+ is having very good results. So should I post this series exclusively on my Google+ pages instead with a link back to my blog and site or just focus on posting on my blog as I have done before? Thanks in advance, Peter

What do I do about old content on my blog?
I run a blog: www.b2bsocialmediaguide.com. It's been going for 2.5 years and some of the old content is, frankly, dated! What do you recommend I do about it? 1. Update old articles with new, more relevant content and change the date? 2. Write new articles with the relevant content and forward the URLs from old articles to the new ones? 3. Do nothing. 4. Just add links to new content from old posts? I don't want to lose link juice!

Help with Brands Facebook page
Hi Guys I desperately need help on this one.......I have taken over the management of a Brand's facebook page and have some concerns as to how it was setup. The account was opened by an individual that has a personal account but they did not open the brands page from their personal account...instead they used a slightly different email address and opened a new page business account. I am not able to comment on any comments on this account and i am assuming it was as a result that there is no "profile" (not sure). Should i go ahead and create the profile with the details of someone at the brand? or how should i proceed to rectify this......am i not able to comment as a result of not having a profile?? help! UpDate: The comment issue has been resolved and it seemed to be browser / firewall related...never happened before...very strange
