Bing Update?
-
With all of the talk about Panda V2 I am just curious as to whether Bing has also updated their algorithm in the past month. I have seen some reports about the number of indexed pages dropping in half on June 10th as reported in bing's webmaster tools, as well as experiencing that drop on our websites, and a significant decrease in rankings do to them dropping some high performing pages out of their index.
So Just wondering if anyone else had seen this or had any info on an algorithm update rolled out from bing.
Cheers,
Josh

Thought I'd post a follow up on our 6 months later to see if anyone else has seen a similar pattern in Bing rankings.
- Peaked at the end of June
- (compared to previous average rank) Declined by ~15% to end of July
- Same until end of Aug
- Declined by ~20% until end of Sept
- Improvement of ~15% until the end of Oct
- Decline by ~45% in mid-Nov (pretty much back to same levels) as beginning of June levels - mention on WebmasterWorld about this:
- Same until now
There have been changes to the content on the site, so not too surprised at some of the results, but would be good to know if the regularity of changes to the Bing algo has been seen by others...
-
Will keep an eye on it for sure and add a note here if / when it changes (see if you get corresponding behaviour...)
-
There seems to be no talk, just a few webmaster reporting sharp drops (or more favorably, sharp increases). But nothing from Bing that I have been able to find. Congrats though on the increase, would be curious to hear if you see it drop off or if it stays the same.
Thanks for the note,
Cheers!
Josh

I was just about to post a very similar question! Have also seen a change in the same time period, although in the opposite direction - the change is significant enough for me to suspect an algo change...
Have tried Googling (how ironic) to see if there's been any chatter about it, but could find nothing... Would be great if anyone knows something concrete.

Hi Ryan, thanks for the response and help. I was not aware of that feature, thanks for the tip.
We have three sites, all of which experienced significant drops all on the 10th but are slowly regaining indexation and ranking. We have never had a fully indexed site with bing, all are above 7,000 pages (ecommerce), with 3-4 thousand pages indexed. One went from 3000 down to 1500 in one day, the other two lost about 30% of their indexed pages. Just seemed really odd, and I saw a couple of other people on Bing's blog complaining of large drops on June 10th (doubly odd). Will continue to investigate.
Cheers!

I have not discovered any recent issues with Bing.
How many pages are on your site?
Bing Webmaster Tools offers the ability to manually add up to 50 pages into the Bing Index (10 per day max). I would suggest taking advantage of this feature for your most important pages while continuing to troubleshoot your site's issue.

Google Birthday Update - noticeable industries?
Anybody see anything specific around which sites are seeing upswing from birthday update? We saw a lot of rankings drop, most drastic in terms that are more loosely associated with our offerings but also seeing more sites with higher DA taking a spot or two above and some more images in top spots for ecommerce terms that you might not usually think to click images to view. For a lot of these terms we're sure our conversion is better, and we offer to more of the search query intent, than some of the competitor sites that have taken top spots - even Amazon and staples who I'm guessing will move back down after google sees people leaving their site to find what they are looking for (hopefully).

Google's Better Ads Chrome update: will it affect email pop-ups?
Chrome will be blocking ads on websites that are not compliant with the Better Ads standards as of Feb 15. Could not find any clues whether a pop-up (not an ad) asking for your email is included in this? We currently have a pop-up that appears on exit intent only (which is not penalized). Any ideas?

Am I hit by an update????? Please help
Hello. Is possible to have just a page or two penalized?? From 24th april ( around that date i heard was an update) two of my pages ( out of 37) do not rank for their main keywords but are indexed. Also, lately a lot of my pages drop out of top 100 and get back on their position. Any help? Am I in trouble? Anyone has the same problem?

Google Mobile Algorithm update
Hi there, On April the 21st Google seems to going to update their Mobile algorithm. I have a few questions about this one. Our current mobile website is very mobile friendly. We block all mobile pages with a noindex, so the desktop pages have been indexed on mobile devices. We use a redirect from desktop page to mobile page when someone hits a result on a mobile device. My gut tells me this is not April 21st-proof so I'm thinking about an update to make this whole thing adaptive. By making the thing adaptive, our mobile pages will be indexed instead of the desktop pages. Two questions: Will Google treat the mobile page as a 100% different page than the desktop page? Or will it match those two because everything will tell Google those belong together. In other words: will the mobile page start with a zero authority and will pages lose good organic positions because of authority or not? Which ranking factor will be stronger after April 21st for mobile pages: page authority or mobile friendliness? In other words: is it worth ignoring the 21 April update because the authority of the desktop pages is more important than making every page super mobile friendly? Hope to get some good advice! Marcel

Republish An Updated Blog or not?
We need to update one of our older posts (a new federal ruling came down that now applies) but do I just update it or should I republish it? I know that just republishing something that hasn't been changed, can get you flagged, but if it's an update, I would think that would be appropriate to republish. I'd just like some guidance before I proceed. Thanks and Happy Friday! Ruben

How do I rank higher in Bing/Yahoo?
We are doing really well across the board on Google, but having issues in ranking with Bing and Yahoo. What is different between the three search engines? I have read a few articles that Bing is happier with Flash, and they are more interested in Top Level Domain links, but what else is different? In Google we are sitting on page one for most terms, but are page 2-3 in Bing/Yahoo for the exact same terms. Any help would be appreciated!

Has there been a change in the Bing/Yahoo Algorithm?
I have noticed many of my sites took a beating this month on Bing and Yahoo, while Google stayed pretty flat.

Did the Bing/Yahoo deal change?
I just went to my campaign to check on rankings, and my Bing rankings are wildly different from my Yahoo rankings. None of the keywords are even close, every one is very different. Anyone know what is happening here? Shouldn't they still be the same?
