Google analytics now showing social signals
-
Looking through Google analytics today and noticed that there is a section under top content that shows number of Facebook likes & shares, tweets, diggs, delicious book marks, etc. Anyone else seeing this?
[staff note: see answers, this came from a Chrome extension]
-
Well the simple answer is that I made a mistake. It popped up again today and after doing some research yesterday and this morning I realized it is being populated by an extension that I have for chrome (started wondering about that when it showed up today in Chrome but not FF).
The social stats are being populated by the SEO Site Tools extension for Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/diahigjngdnkdgajdbpjdeomopbpkjjc
Evidently this feature works intermittently as I have never seen it before and it only worked once yesterday and only on this page and I have been using it for about a month (for some odd reason it doesn't work on any other page).
So apologies for getting you all excited. If you want to read more about the tool SEJ did a review on it a while back: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/the-seo-tool-that-may-make-you-switch-to-google-chrome/20672/

If Google can not access "shares" how did it track them in GA? hmmm
-
Thanks for the screenshot. I'll be on the lookout for any changes.
-
Well, bummer, believe it or not but it is gone now. i attached a link with a box around where it was showing up. if I see it again I will take a screen shot of it. It was interesting because for the particular page it showed 6 likes and 1 shares, no comments for the facebook stats. so it distinguished between likes and shares somehow. Which is something I am fuzzy on as FB seemed to merge the two.
-
Joshua, where exactly are you seeing this information?
I am looking at GA > Top Content and I do not see it in the sidebar nor anywhere on the page. I tried selecting a page result which is highly liked and +1'd but I did not see any reference to social signals.
-
ya, it just shows up on pages where I have shares. otherwise nothing shows up.
-
Nope. I'm not seeing it on my end. Don't know if its because im in another country or havent gotten any shares yet.

Links to Social Media Sites
I am in the process of updating my website where all the URLs of my individual blog pages are changing. I have, in the past, done a lot of link sharing on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter of my individual blog posts, but now on the new site my links will be different. Therefore, when I launch the new site anyone clicking on my previous tweets or facebook shares will get a broken link. Is there a tool I can use that identifies all the links on social media sites? Opensite Explorer doesn't show these - unless I am missing something? Any tips on how to overcome this would be very useful. thanks

How do I build author rank on Google+ ?
I have a website for one of my businesses at www.trustworthycare.com that we've been building upon for many years. On that site we have a lot of content and we publish at least two blog articles each week with solid content that is relevant to members of the market that the business wants to attract as customers. I have a second website for a new business at www.ageassistance.com that is in the same market but which operates in a different manner. That second business is very new. It also publishes two articles per week. Both sites name me as the author and I have created a Google+ page for myself. The sites identify me as the author for google+ author purposes. Both businesses also have google+ pages. The weekly articles are being pushed out to the respective Google+ business pages as well as to my own Google+ page. I think I've got all the basics established for us to take advantage of google+ for SEO purposes, then. Is that correct? If so, what do we do next? What matters? Getting others to +1 my posts? On which Google+ page, mine or the businesses? Getting others to share my posts? If so, is it better to get them shared from my personal page, or from the businesses' pages? Thanks!

Pay with a Tweet (or other social payments) in the Freemium world
Hi Mozer(s), I work for a company which provides cloud-based collaboration environments for companies. Like many companies in this field, we offer a Free package, which gives users enough capabilities to explore our tool under business-alike circumstances. However, we currently dont have a time limit for our free version - which, makes us (I think) quite unique from a competitive standpoint. But consequently, it also means a lot of users see no immediate need to upgrade to a business package. If maintaining this business model, we are considering various options in how to generate more awareness. The company is quite new and can generally only get better results of SEO and social media advancement. One alternative is to start charging for signup to the Free package, using Social payments scheme, i.e. get access to the collaboration tools for free if liking, tweeting, plusing us, using a pre-defined message, hashtag, etc, using a hybrid approach, allowing users to edit some/all of the message. It may have an impact on number of sign ups, but are there other potential negative effects? I have seen some comments, both positive and negative, about its SEO impact, mostly positive, not least from this [Youmoz post](How To: Win Tweets and Influence Search Engines with PayWithaTweet).- though unlikely to have a direct SEO effect, it can increase sharing, exposure and SERP presence. But any flip sides social payment users should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Wordpress Social Button Plugins Change
Hi Guys, I'm thinking of changing the plugin I used on my blog for people to share my blog posts on Facebook, Twitter and Google +. If I do this, would I lose all shares (meaning that all the buttons would go back to 0, I know the shared content would still appear on people's profiles)? Thanks, Carlos

On the new Google+ Local pages, I was wondering if anyone knew how to add the "Follow" button to lead to the company Google+ profile.
I saw a video on an Internet marketing blog that showed a company's Google+ Local page with a "Follow" button on it so people could follow their company Google+ profile.
