OPINION on forum software phpbb OR vBulletin?
-
Anyone recommend one over the other? If so, why? I don't care about price.
-
Can you elaborate on the security issues? There were some issues with phpbb 2 (many years ago), but phpbb 3 is extremely secure.
I think your information is very outdated.
-
Your answer was one of the main reasons I bought vBulletin instead. Thanks Himanshu!

Ryan, thanks for the response. By the time I read it, I has already purchased vBulletin. The client paid for it anyway. I appreciate you helping out.

I strongly recommend Xenforo as the best forum software solution on the market today.
I used phpBB in the past and would agree, it should not be used for any professional site and it lacks a lot compared to professional solutions such as vB and xF.
A bit on the history on vB. From vB 2 forward the lead developer was Kier Darby. Kier is an outstanding developer who has a passion for forum software. It is not just a job to him, it's what he loves. vB is the success it is today because he actively engaged the community and worked directly with many of the add-on developers.
A bit over 2 years ago Kier left vB after there were management changes with vB and disagreements. Kier took a few team mates with him and created XenForo. XenForo went through all the alpha and beta testing and RC, and it was officially released earlier this year. It is clearly the most innovative, engaging forum software on the market. Many of the software users are former vB owners and developers. Feel free to visit the Xenforo site and ask questions.
I recognize I probably sound like a sales person with the above endorsement. I am simply a happy user of their software and have no other relationship with them.

Another vote for vBulletin. Overall much more refined with the possibility of adding many plug-ins and customisations.

phpb has major security issues and its back end is not as Good as vbulletin.

Can forums bring down your search engine rankings?
it might be my imagination, but i could swear that after the launch of a bbpress forum and posts and replies coming from members, the site alexa website rankings actually went DOWN for a while. i always thought forums would de facto bring up rankings - more content, traffic, etc. Is it possible that forum content is considered lower quality? i remember reading that lots of new threads and such from forum members can actually hurt your rankings- is this true? i guess i'm trying to figure out: on balance, what is the impact of forums on rankings - and if there are any negative impacts, if you still want to have one, how to minimize the downside? thanks much for any help!

Having Blog and Forum for Store is Beneficial or Not
Hello ! I am building a cosmetic store. I have blog.storename.com , forum.storename.com. i started both to make my store content rich. On my blog we are personally reviewing cosmetic products. and forum user are sharing experience and problems related to beauty..... But i was reading this post http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/uncover-competitors-using-multiple-sites-for-multiple-first-page-rankings . it has this " Alright, Google dislikes pages, subdomains, and domains with substantially duplicated content. Got it. " Any way my content is not going to be dup at all. but Product which we are reviewing on blog. ll also be on our store for sale. and might be people sharing own experiences about same product on forum. do u think i should worry?

Forum Site: Content Value Post Panda
I run a forum website built on Wordpress. We're about two years old. The theme of the site is a directory of attorneys, with each directory listing having its own blog account on our site. Through this platform, we receive 75-80 blog posts now every month of varying quality from our users. QUESTION: A good number of the blogs published on our site are also published on the attorney's law firm site as well (they're syndicating on our site). Will this hurt our site in light of Panda? A lot of the syndicated content is very well written and insightful. By contrast, Will non-syndicated but average to below average posts hurt our site? The authors almost always link back to their firm site. Would love some feedback on whether we should be happy about the syndicated content or whether we should potentially ban it?
