New sitelinks - can we control the number?
-
A quick question on Google's new sitelink format. When searching for our brand name (Confetti) Google returns 8 sitelinks for our site. When searching for our domain (confetti.co.uk) Google returns the maximum number of 12 sitelinks.
Is there a quick way (Webmaster Tools for example) to increase the number of sitelinks for our brand name to 12?
Thanks,
-
Thanks guys,
I guess it's a case of keyword relevancy so I'll have to be happy with just the 8!
Cheers,

I think you're right. There was certainly no way to request them for the old sitelink style and could/can only remove them.
@confettiwedding Is 8 not enough for you
I get 10 appear for [confetti wedding] as well as for my own (2 dictionary word) brands. I imagine that you might actually be getting the max for what it is. In so much as people searching for confetti aren't definitely looking for your site.
-
Probably not
Webmasters Tools, when talking about sitelinks (Under Site Configuration>>Sitelinks), only gives you a way to demote sitelinks that are appearing which you would prefer not to appear. Conspicuously absent is any way to request certain sitelinks.
(If you find a way, though - let us know!)

Will Google penalise me for duplicating my own website on a new domain?
Hi guys, Currently, we are using Magento Enterprise to run two separate ecommerce websites, for arguments sake lets say these two websites are ElectronicsX.com and electronicsY.co.uk. ElectronicsX.com isn't doing too well, it has little traffic, makes next to nothing each month and is just a waste of resources. ElectronicsY.co.uk on the other hand is getting 30,000 unique visits every month and is over exceeding every month in terms of revenue in sales. At the moment, the only traffic we get from Europe tends to be the odd "word of mouth" customer and English customers who have emigrated to Europe but still like to use English companies. We can't rank on Google FR or ES or anything like that because the website we have "electronicsY" is on a .co.uk TLD (a GeoTLD). So what we want to do is take ALL the content from electronicsY.co.uk and place it on electronicsX.com so that we can start targeting Europe and ranking in the serps internationally. What sort of effect will that have in terms of penalisation from Google? Or because the websites are on the same C block, would it have any effect at all? Thanks guys Tom

Replacing "_" with "-" in url, results in new url?
We ran SEOmoz's "On-Page Optimization" tool on a url which contains the character "_". According to the tool: "Characters which are less commonly used in URLs may cause problems with accessibility, interpretation and ranking in search engines. It is considered a best practice to stick to standard URL structures to avoid potential problems." "Rewrite the URL to contain only standard characters." Therefore we will rewrite the url, replacing "_" with "-". Will search engines consider the "-" url a different one? Do we need to 301 the old url to the new one? Thanks for your help!

Create a new page or try to improve rankings for homepage
I'm working with a client attempting that competes in the highly competitive anti-virus market with a very limited marketing budget. They are currently ranking well for only a few terms - one is "Free Antivirus trial" - currently position 11 on Google. The top ranking sites have a page SEO'ed for this term. My client's SERP is their homepage, seemingly based primarily on the meta description tag. For SEO and PPC purposes I would like to create a new page specifically for the "Free Antivirus trial" but I'm afraid of messing with the second page listing that currently exists. My question for SEO folks is... Should I create a new, properly SEO'd page or attempt to improve the home page ranking?

My blog title is getting added to my post title and I can't figure out how to remove it
Hello everyone, I am sure most of you guys know how to do this. I am finding that when my posts are listed in google, my blog title is added to my post title. 2 questions. 1. Is this hurting my rankings because the blog title is diluting my keywords making it look like I have a huge title? (the on page optimizer is dinging me for this. 2. I use a self hosted wordpress blog with the all in one seo plugin. Does anyone know how to remove the blog title from being appended to the post title? I thought I could do that in all in one seo by checking the rewrite title box and just having it say %post_title% but that didn't fix it. Also it was doing it before I checked that box as well. Any other ideas to try? Thanks

What's the best strategy for reducing the number of links on a blog post?
I'd like to optimize my blog better for search. The first reccomendation I got from my SEOMoz Pro Campaign Crawl was that I needed to reduce the number of links per page on my site. I have lots of links from navigational items in the sidebar that people do click on. I'd really like to keep some or all of the tags and categories I list. Comments are another issue. Most of our posts get about 10 comments. However, our best posts get 50-100 comments. Those comments create a lot of links. I was planning on attempting to reduce the number of links using javascript but I guess Google understands javascript now. I may still do this b/c our pages are huge and some progressive rendering would likely help the user experience. Can you use javascript (ajax or otherwise) to limit the number of links on your page in a way that helps your SEO efforts? Any specific suggestions for reducing links that come from comments and navigational items? How much will reducing the number of links on a given page help with SEO? Any simple way to estimate or quantify this without diving in? Thanks in advance!
