Best SEO Bang For Buck from $1000
-
I'm a developer with little SEO / Marketing skills.
I've recently redesigned my site ( www.habitmix.com ), I think the site is great but it doesn't get a lot of organic search traffic (about 30 visits a day).
I have $1000 available to spend in next couple of weeks and am wondering what the best way to use the money would be.
I realize SEO is a long term process not a one time job, and I realize $1000 isn't a big budget.
So far I am considering :
-
Finding someone on ODesk to create blog content, say a post a day for a month
-
Finding an SEO company to analyse the site and create a link building strategy for me to execute.
Surely there are a lot of other ways I could spend my $1000 that would help grow organic traffic.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers
Sam

Sam,
I strongly recommend you follow EGOL's advice in this case. The other suggestions are OK, but they run a distant second to EGOL's suggestion.
Your site needs SEO attention before you add additional content or link building. Everyone has their own experiences and proceeds differently. I am a firm believer in taking care of your site SEO first, then adding content and link building. If you were to follow the other suggestions and add content / link build now, you are adding to a poor foundation as your site requires SEO attention.
Your site is duplicated. You have a www version and a non-www version.
http://habitmix.com/ and http://www.habitmix.com/ both are working URLs for your site. This is a major SEO issue as you have links built for both versions of your site. Fortunately, it is very easy to fix.
There are other issues as well but this highlights my point which is you either need to be prepared to invest a lot of time learning SEO and applying it to your site, or acquire the professional services of an SEO then act upon the advice you are given. If you choose otherwise, I predict your $1000 will disappear and you wont be happy with the results.
You have a great concept. Back it up with some solid SEO.

Invest in yourself. Spend that $1000 having a great SEO do a study and recommend on your site. They study it, make a list of tasks that can be done to improve your site, then spend an hour on the phone with you to improve your SEO.
This improves your site immediately and gives you skills that you can use over time.

Thanks for your useful reply.
Can you tell me what you mean by "maximize that content via a digital marketing campaign."
If I wrote some articles and hired someone to maximize the content via a digital marketing campagin, what would they actually be doing ?
Cheers

Hi James,
Thanks for the tips, I am interested in what you mean when you wrote the following :
- Use some of the funds and buy a link building service on related sites, I would outsource that to some where like odesk but do your research wisely.
What sort of link building would I be paying for ? Would I be paying someone to email blogs and request a link for example ? I'm not sure what the link building service would be doing.
Cheers
Sam

Hi Mate,
Here are some ideas how you can spend the money:
-
Use PR content and syndicate articles about your product via different PR websites, would involve content writers writing PR content about your product.
-
Use some of the funds and buy a link building service on related sites, I would outsource that to some where like odesk but do your research wisely.
-
Generally just look for some people to buy social media based link building from, and really push it in related sections.
-
Hire some one to write some guest post content for you and also hire them to find related sites to post guest posts on.
I mean their are millions of ideas out their just check out SEER for a great post about local link building ideas:

Hey Sam, I'm not sure there is a "Right" answer to your question. How much time do you have to personally invest in addition to your $1000? What are you good at doing, and what do you enjoy doing?
If you have some subject mater expertise and writting skills, then you'll want to create your own content, and hire someone to help you maximize that content via a digital marketing campaign. Read some of the great advice at a site like copyblogger.com to get you started.
On the otherhand, if you aren't a strong writter, or don't have much subject mater expertise, but you find all the SEO discussions here fascinating, then start reading http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo and hire someone to create great content for you.
If you don't have time or inclination to do either, then I'd still focus your budget on creating more valuable content that will attract visitors and search engines rather than maximizing the SEO value of your current content.
By creating new content, I don't mean hiring some anonymous SEO copyrigher to ghost write their own copy for your site. If you're a subject mater expert, hire a copy writer to interview you and write a series of articles based on your interview. Ideally focus on creating some "Pillar" articles (substantial pieces that have practical advice or useful tips for your audience, that will encourage sharing/linking). Alternatively, hire a graphic artist to create infographics relevant to your audience. Sites like http://99designs.com/ can be a great way to get amazing creative for reasonable prices.
If your not a subject mater expert, then use your budget to hire a subject mater expert.
Great content can help you earn an audience in-spite of SEO flaws, but in the long run the best SEO in the world won't help you keep an audience without great content.
Another way you could consider turning your money into great content is to invest it in a social tool for your site. I.E. Pay someone to add a forum to your site or blog. If you can offer great tools to get your users to create great content for you, that can provide you with great content on an on-going basis vs. buying $1,000 worth of great content and then running out of resources.
The bottom line is find a way have that budget subsidize what you or your users are willing to do themselves, to create a sustainable ongoing way to build your traffic.
I hope that helps!

Does embedded content (from my site) help seo
hi i am creating a new accommodation site and will have some great videos on it (fly bys of local beaches and virtual tours of hotels etc). from an seo perspective i have two questions: 1. should i host on my own site or youtube/vimeo - its a new site but in the long run i want my site to get the credit 2. i will be giving the hotels the chance to embed and video content i have on their own sites. does this help my own seo juice and if so is there a particular way it should be done. there will be around 90 well established local hotels in total so figured it should add up.

Are SEO fundamentals accurate or real?
Hi I've been studying about seo for quite a good time. I have learned about linking building, on page optimization, and so on but I in the real word all these fundamentals seems not be followed but google's algorithm and here is an example. On google.com.br (brazilian google) I'm trying to rank for the main keyword "airsoft" and its variation for the website www.qgairsoft.com.br. But the the top 1 os SERP is: http://lojaairsoft.com.br/index.php But this website doesn't follow almost any seo advice: 1. It has almost no backlinks at all 2. It has no good content (both on pages and doesn't have a blog) 3. url's are not user friendly 4. It doesn't have a mobile website 5. It has almost no presence on social media, with almost no interaction 6. It doesn't have H1 7. I doesnt have any "canonical" set 8. It has a lower DA 9. It has a lower PA 10. Moz metrics are lower 11. It is not as old as my target website... 12. .. I think you got the point. And dispite all that the website do better than my website and also better then other websites with theoretically better 'seo'. What is wrong? What I am missing? Does all these principals really matter for ranking?

Seo & Real Estate Site?
I am a Realtor. I am also a web developer. I want to make a site about real estate and web development. Primarily how I use my unique skills with web to sell homes. A real estate website caps it's Page Rank very low. There are not a lot of good backlinks to get when compared to the web development industry. There are millions of blogs I participate in about web development/seo. There are a lot of blogs I participate in about real estate too; however, the real estate websites all have low page ranks. This is obviously because the seo/web development industries know how to build page rank, which makes it easier to accumulate it. It's difficult finding good outlets to get link power from in real estate. How confused would google be? Is there an acceptable strategy to making this a reality? Please point out all of the variables I am not seeing. Pros and Cons. I'm not an SEO pro. I would be going for the keyword Pensacola Real Estate. I would accumulate backlinks from the real estate industry and the web design industry. Help 🙂

When placing content on external sites, what are some best practices for back links?
Hi there, I am working on a content strategy that includes placing content (i.e. bylined articles, how-to's, guest blogs, etc.) on other web sites and embedding links back to our site. In some cases we're very limited to what we can do with our bank links (i.e. just a company url), and in other cases we are free to place multiple anchor links within the content. In cases where we have no limitations, what are some best practices for implementing back links? I understand it's important to link to deep pages (not just our home page), have diverse anchor text, and make the anchor links relevant to the surrounding content. Are there other things I should be thinking about in order to maximize the SEO value of such placements? For example, is it better to have just one anchor link per placement? Or should I aim to embed multiple anchor links within a single placement? Any advice would be much appreciated! Sincerely, Debra

Facebook Notes for SEO Purposes ?
I just two minutes ago learned what a Facebook note is. I discovered this while doing a search of one of my keywords and i noticed one of the results was a Facebook note talking about the keyword with links in it to a competitors Amazon page. Is anyone here familiar with using Facebook Notes as an SEO tool? It obviously works if they are appearing in my search results. Does anyone know basic guidelines in terms of how many links, anchor text, etc... ? Thanks a lot...

Best Way to Analyse Linking Structure of My Site
My site http://www.taxproblem.org is now undergoing many changes due to bad report card scores from this site. I've had people tell me that my linking structure was obviously artificial, especially if most of my links are from "Mr. Wong - social site" O.K. stop laughing 🙂 Yes we use bookmarking demon and rss feed wp plug ins, etc. But haven't discovered how to best get links yet, although reading a lot and waiting on seomoz's DVD's I ordered. 1. What is the best way to analyse our sites linking structure to determine if Google will consider it bad (my site was trashed by Google twice in the last two years) probably for link farms and the like. I know the obvious, but I was looking for a program with guidelines to judge by. 2. The best source to review the many strategies for getting back links so I am not a victim of rehashed b/s based on someones fears of Google, but actually good methods that work. We offer something of value. (CPA firm doing IRS rep. and we have a free download so people can do their own IRS rep and save thousands, and know it's done right) I need to know the bast way to market this. I need good souces for info and for keeping up. Thanks in advance to all that can help.
