Advice on why page isn't being indexed in google top 1000 for keyword
-
Hi,
http://www.cgcomposites.com.au/composite-material.html
This page isn't listed for keywords 'composite material'
It has been live for a few weeks and gets grade A report for onpage optimisation?
regards
Michael

@Dan, yes that is my thinking. The page ranks as #2 for "Huntsman Advanced Materials (Araldite), Gurit High Modulus (SP)" and then #1 spot is the home page of the site which also contains the phrase. Basically the page is indexed and exists but since it had no links to it, the PR was the absolute lowest possible.
@Michael, it is a best practice to always use lowercase letters in URLs. I notice the page URL you originally shared is all lowercase, but your sitemap capitalizes various URLs such as http://www.cgcomposites.com.au/Composite-Material.html
From an SEO standpoint there is an issue on your site where all forms of capitalized URLs are valid on your site and return a 200 (OK) Header response.
http://www.cgcomposites.com.au/composite-material.html
http://www.cgcomposites.com.au/Composite-Material.html
http://www.cgcomposites.com.au/COMposite-Material.html
The above 3 URLs all work. They shouldn't. It is another issue which should be fixed.
Lastly, adding the HTML Sitemap to your footer is a good step, but ideally you should have a better link to your /composite-material page. You can link from your navigation, your sidebar "Product Range" block, or an anchor link within your text.

Good call Ryan. I simply did a site: search for that page and it came up in the index. I also searched for a portion of random text from that page and it still came up. Could it be indexed but because its an orphaned page it doesn't rank for the term its optimized for, because it doesn't get any linkjuice / domain authority flow?
Nice catch again!

thanks so much for your reply. I've no practical experience with SEO.
The page is a test, an island as you described.
It is listed in the sitemap.xml file which was submitted to google via webmaster tools
Am I wrong to expect that that would be sufficent?
I have since added a sitemap html page to the footer
thanks Michael

Hi Michael.
If I am on your site's home page, how can I get to the /composite-material through your site? I didn't notice any link from the home page. I checked several menus including Products, Resources and Construction but I could not locate a link to that page. I also noticed there is not a HTML sitemap offered.
Unless I am missing something, it seems like it is an island page which cannot be reached.

For an e-commerce product category page that has several funnels to specific products, for SEO purposes does it matter whether the category page's overview content is above or below those funnels?
We manage an e-commerce site. On a category page, there are several funnels to specific products. We moved the category overview content below those funnels to make it easier for users to quickly get to products. Seems more user friendly to me, but could that move of the main content to the lower part of the page be a negative ranking factor?

NOINDEX, FOLLOW on product page - how about images indexing?
Hi, Since we have a lot of similar products with duplicate descriptions, I decided to NOINDEX, FOLLOW most of these different variants which have duplicate content. However, I guess it would be useful in marketing terms if Google image search still listed the images of the products in image search. How does the image search of Google actually work - does it read the NOINDEX on the product page and therefore skip the image also or is the image search completely dependent on the ALT tag of any image found on our site? Thanks!

Is it convinient to use No-Index, Follow to my Paginated Pages?
I have a website http://www.naukrigulf.com and it has a lot of Paginated pages on its SERP and most of paginated pages are getting indexed in Google SERP. Is it beneficial to use No-Index, Follow to keep the link equity to main (first page), although we have already used rel=next and rel=prev. If Answer is "yes" is their any harm by using no-index, follow with rel=next, rel=prev.

Page Not Indexed
Hi Guys I wrote and published an article last night on my site but it is yet to be indexed. This is strange as articles are usually indexed pretty quickly. Could you have a quick look and see what the problem is? http://www.rankmytri.com/tomtom-running-and-triathlon-watch/ Also all my Blog posts (in the blog section of the site) are not indexed as well (and I dont think they have been for a while) yet I dont have any messages from Google in my webmaster tools. Thoughts? Thanks in advance Ross

Keyword Cannibalization/stuffing on an ecommerce category page
Hi, Whats the best way to tackle e-commerce category pages? If you have, say, a category showing 30 pairs of socks, and each of the sock products in the lists has a 'view more' link, a link from the product name and a link from the thumbnail. Naturally each of those links should be the product name - sprinkled with a slight variation, a preceding 'View more on [product name]' or superseded with the shop name, so you dont end up with complete duplicate link titles, you get the idea. But you suddenly end up with 90 instances of links with title tags containing 'socks', which ultimately lead to keyword stuffing/cannibalization - especially as you then move to another category with, say, sports socks showing 40 products and therefore 120 link titles also with the word 'socks' Thought on a postcard please? Thanks Tom

Does Google look at page design
Hi everybody, At the moment i'm creating several webshops and websites with the same layout, so visitors can recognize the websites are from the same company. But i was wondering: Does google look at the layout of a webpage that it's not a copy of another website? This because loads of website have the same wordpress/joomla templates etc, or doesn't this effect rankingpositions? Thank you,

Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
On some sites, the H1 is contained within the logo and remains consistent throughout the site (i.e. the company name is in the of the logo). If the h1 in a logo is dynamic for each page (i.e. on the homepage it is company name - homepage) is this better or worse to have it changed out on the logo rather than having it in the page content?
