Please view website http://www.staddonsbeds.co.uk. In the footer is the keywords the client is aiming for. These pages have been created separately to the sitemap. Is this tactic and pages white hat seo or is this considered black hat seo such as gateway pages?

I like to build brands. If I have a site at http://www.staddonsbeds.co.uk with a name Staddons Bed Centre then I provide relatively little content on the home page and focus on my brand name, Staddons Bed Centre.Your site says "since 1919" so I have to think if they been in business 90+ years they have built some brand traffic.
The internal pages would then focus keywords such as /beds-nottingham
I also strongly prefer clean URLs so I would drop the .htm extension. where possible.

Yes, you understand perfectly.
I took a look at your page and it is improved. There are additional improvements you can make. For example, your target phrase is "Buy beds online". It is your title and H1 tag, but you should use it at least once in your content. Presently the phrase is not used at all on the page.
You offer the following text snippet: "Our advice, wide range of products and delivery service make buying a bed....." Perhaps you can tack on the word "online" after "bed" so a form of the phrase appears once on the page. Ideally you would like to expand a bit and have an exact phrase match once and then perhaps add variations.

So what you are saying is that a keyword should only be targetting for one page so with the tactic being used at the moment the two pages are conflicting with each other and might not be getting the best result.
Are you able to view the site again and see if the changes been made are better.

Black hat SEO occurs when a site attempts to manipulate search rankings through tactics which do not benefit users but are intended solely for a ranking benefit. These tactics violate search engine (i.e. Google) policies.
What I see on the web site you shared is a normal web page with a footer which has links to other pages on the website. What exactly are you concerned about being black hat?
Site owners are welcome to add footers to their site's web pages. Those footers are allowed to have links to other pages on their site. Am I missing something?
On a separate note, I would share the page is not optimized very well for SEO. The page title is "Beds Nottingham | Buy Beds Online | Staddons Bed Centre Nottingham". Ideally you want to target one or two terms for a page. Three is stretching your ranking ability quite thin. Additionally, the title indicates which keywords are the focus of your web page; accordingly, you are indicating "Beds Nottingham" is a focus of this web page. In your footer "Beds Nottingham" is being used as anchor text to another page. This dual use of the same keyword sends a mixed message to search engines. Which page from the site should be listed when a user searches for "Beds Notthingham"? Your home page or your /beds-nottingham page?

Advanced Outside Perspective Requested to Combat Negative SEO
**Situation: **We are a digital marketing agency that has been doing SEO for 6 years. For many years, we maintained exceptional rankings and online visibility.However, I suppose with great rankings comes great vulnerability. Last year, we became the target of a pretty aggressive and malicious negative SEO campaign from another other SEO(s) in our industry - I'm assuming they're competitors. Overnight, there were 10,000+ links built on various spam domains using the anchor text: negative marketing services poor seo butt crack kickass ... and more (see attached image) The issue we face are: Time Investment - Enormous investment of time and energy to contact each web admin for link removal. Hard to Keep Up - When we think we're getting somewhere, new links come out of the woodwork. Disavow Doesn't Work - Though we've tried to generally avoid the disavow tool, we've had to use it for a few domains. However, it's difficult to say how much effect, if any, it's had on the negative links. As you can imagine, we've seen an enormous drop in organic traffic since this all started. It's unfortunate that SEO has come to this point, but I still see a lot of value in what we do and hope that spammers don't completely ruin it for us one day. Moz Community - I come to you seeking some new insight, advice, similar experiences or anything else that may help! Are there any other agencies that have experienced the same issue? Question about local SEO when you serve many more cities than you have brick and mortar locations
My URL is: http://www.mollysmusic.org for the record.I run a music school that serves in-home lessons to a whole slew of cities. Since I only have 3 brick-and-mortar locations, I can't make google local profiles for all the cities served, but I want to get seen by those people searching in their own cities. Right now, our biggest competitor, takelessons.com, is top ranked for every single city you can think of, because they have individual web pages for every city served. Their content is repetitive and scrapey, and to me, that says "doorway page" which supposedly can get you de-indexed. I'm reluctant to do that because I'm afraid I'll get banned, but I have to compete. I also want a strategy that can scale when we move into new areas. Is there something that makes TakeLessons's content NOT a doorway page? What's the best practice for getting ranked in multiple individual cities if you run a service? Thanks in advance.

Off-page SEO and link building
Hi everyone! I work for a marketing company; for one of our clients' sites, we are working with an independent SEO consultant for on-page help (it's a large site) as well as off-page SEO. Following a meeting with the consultant, I had a few red flags with his off-page practices – however, I'm not sure if I'm just inexperienced and this is just "how it works" or if we should shy away from these methods. He plans to: guest blog do press release marketing comment on blogs He does not plan to consult with us in advance regarding the content that is produced, or where it is posted. In addition, he doesn't plan on producing a report of what was posted where. When I asked about these things, he told me they haven't encountered any problems before. I'm not saying it was spam-my, but I'm more not sure if these methods are leaning in the direction of "growing out of date," or the direction of "black-hat, run away, dude." Any thoughts on this would be crazy appreciated! Thanks, Casey

Black Hat? Is it really possible my new client paid someone to SEO the word "here"?
I just took on a client and first thing I saw in Webmaster Tools was the dreaded "Unnatural Link Patterns" message dated Apr 7th, 2012. MajesticSEO is reporting 212 backlinks, OSE is reporting 251. Nothing out of the ordinary, in fact they only anchor text is their brand. However, we then ran an SEO PowerSuite Crawl and found 429 backlinks with 78.1% of links use the anchor text "here" and 77.9% of all links point to the same URL. If this is indeed true I can see why they got the message from Google. The company has admitted they hired a service to do SEO for $299/mo for several months but when they saw no results they quit. Could this company really have gone after "here". It not, I can't find anything that would give them the message they got from Google Webmaster Tools.
