Competitors with thousands of links
-
Looking at my competitors link results on OSE some of them have 30,000 links to their websites. They are top rank on google whereas I am page 2. I know its quality over quantity but am I ever going to compete with that number of links? Is it worth getting some low value links just to bump up numbers while continuing getting good links? thanks for any advice!

Thankyou for your replies- will carry on plodding on as I am!

Everybody starts as a beginner.
If you work hard five years from now you will be in a powerful position if you work smart.
-
You can buy a 1,000 links for 9$ all from different domains, and then you could prooably get one link from a decent souce that is worth much more then alll of them.
numbers really dont mean much, thats why they have metrics like domain authority and trust, that try to take all this into account
-
They have double the number of linking root domains as me. Just to clarify (am a beginner!) that you can have lots of links from one website but only one counts as from a linking root domain?
-
I would suggest looking past the "total # of links" and instead examine the "Linking root domains" number. You can easily obtain a single footer link from a forum site with 30k pages and then instantly you have 30k links to your site. The actual value of those links is quite low.
Alternatively you can obtain a single link from a New York Times article which offers a lot of value to your site.
Ultimately you want to be able to look past site-wide links and understand the site's link profile. An authentic link has value but many sites are fluffed with a ton of links which are frankly worthless or very low value. That may or may not be the case with your competitor.

Its wort checking out the webcast made back in the summer called something like 'successful link building'. The overall message was the classic link building is dead and that social media signals and great content will do your work for you. Have a look at the video and all becomes clear.

We are moving to HTTPS and wanted to know if our link building efforts were in vain or will the link juice pass to HTTPS?
We are switching to HTTPS and want to make sure the links we've gotten in the past will still transfer since they are pointing to HTTP? I'd hate to go back through and ask people to please add an s to the link.

Linking to a pdf
Hi All I have a pdf that people can download from my site, what I want to know is that when people link to the pdf does the pdf share link power to pages linked to from within the pdf (like a html page would) or is the link power being waisted going to the pdf and should I somehow get the links to a normal page? The pdf is a free downloadable resource to people in the party planning industry and so gets linked to quite a bit by sites telling their readers to get the information we provide. Thanks for your thoughts Sean

Are Directory Links a Good Source of Branded Links?
I am trying to increase the number of branded links for a few of my sites since the links are too heavily weighted on anchor text. If so, would you recommend a service like Directory Maximizer?

Open Site Explorer - Finding 404s from my competitor's external linking Root Domains
I want to find websites that have linked 404s to my competitors. My goal is to contact webmasters who have linked to my competitors with 404s, but I cannot figure out how to get Open Site Explorer to give me that data. I can easily see this in GWT for my own site, but I need this for my competition instead. Does anybody know a quick way to get this information?

Blog traffic / link ratio? (Esimated of how much traffic will result in a link)
Hi, Was wondering if people could please tell me some estimates of how much traffic is likely to gain links to a blog post? For example 1,000 hits = 1 link, Hence 10,000 hits = 10 links to a blog post? I understand there is no magic ratio I just want to know what people have achieved. I’m after averages not just a one off really successful blog post too. Please specify the topic you achieve this in e.g. SEO, photography, business, heath... etc.

Link Building
I've been hearing about going after niche directories, and my question is most of them have a ton of links on any given page. Is it even worth taking the time to approach these sites knowing they won't pass a lot of link juice?

Google not providing all competitor site's external incoming links?
I heard Google is not providing all of a competitor's site's external links, speculated as protecting their privacy. But that Yaho still provides the complete list of their recognized links. (I assume they mean when using the term 'link:url') Has anyone else heard this claim? Is there a way around this check? What sources do you use at SEOMoz for your Pro reports? thanks, geo
