Promoting a Technical Site
-
I have to promote a manufacturer's rep site. They deal in process control instruments, and they don't have much original content. Creating it is hard for me due to the technical nature of the business.
If any Mozzers have an idea I'd love to hear it.

I have had success meeting with the clent and asking how they think potential clients will find them in search.... we brainstormed some keywords and I showed them the adwords keyword tool which they greatly enjoyed and played with for nearly an hour.
After that I told them that if they wanted traffic for any of those keywords that I would need a page of substantive content for each one. I told them that substantive content would be needed to inform Google that they are seriously in that line of business. That got the attention of the owner and he assigned shares of the content development to members of his staff.
Playing with the keyword tool opened their eyes to how search engines recognize what a website is about. I received lots of content as Word documents in about two weeks.

I like your suggestion about creating the content and normally I would have no problem writing it. The barrier for me in this case, is that it very technical, filled with lots of specs, and I don't understand it enough to create accurate content.

I'm working on a similar set of sites right now - for conveyors. I've set up blogs, written entries, set up a couple of AdWords campaigns. I've also hired people to write some blog entries, but, like you, I'm not the expert so my fear is my words/content/blog writer direction will not be pertinent enough to attract the eyeballs we're after. In any case I know the line well enough to get a certain amount of traffic. I'd like to be better at it and do more though. I think this is the conundrum we face - the owners/marketers at the manufacturer want the hits but they don't have the interest/time/confidence to put in the effort to write the words or make the plan for SEO effective. That's kind of the nature of the proverbial beast - they're technicians - they're not thinking or acting like SEO'ers!
The bottom line answer to this conundrum is to understand the vision of the people who own/run/represent the manufacturer. But you probably don't want to call it the "vision" as that will make them think you're an alien left-coaster (or something!). The goal is to combine their vision with the right words - put those in order of priority - sometimes they're easy to access within their cut-sheets and marketing literature - and start writing.
Once you start creating the "original content" you're seeking you'll become their go-to-guy for this and more.
Is this the secret to success? I don't know. It's a start.

Multiple links from a single web-site
When one good web-site (PR5) has a link to my web-site - it's great. But, if this site has a second link to my web-site from another page, is this also good? Or, let me ask in a different way, will my web-site get "double benefit" from that web-site?

How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
Not sure whether to actually name the term and site in question, but basically it is a very big term for a popular type of home furniture. Since the algo change, there is a site thats appeared in p2, right behind the market leader in google uk. The site has a domain authority of 20, and only 84 links - none of which even have the anchor text in question, and infact well over 90% have the same anchor text which is related but different to the search term. The search term appears on the home page 3 times - once in a 120 character+ keyword stuffed home link title, once in a 100 character+ keyword stuffed h1 tag that isnt even visible on the home page and one in a paragraph that is visible.

The site is badly made and buggy, but its outranking John Lewis, Dunelm Mill etc - very big players in the UK market. How on earth does that work? They are doing so much google tells you not to and winning big rank!? What is Google doing?0 -
Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
I'm going through all the links (hopefully) to my website and I've found so many links from site scrapers. For instance: http://www.fzccg.com/cmsteam/dvbbs/boke.asp?zkhod76681.showtopic.148760.html ... which links to my site with anchor text "abercrombie uk How To Change Your Wiper Blades" It is surely not realistic to think that I can contact all the scraper site owners. So what should I do with this kind of links?

Challenge: How to SEO a site with almost no content
Wondering what you all would recommend for SEO on this site: www.gudville.com Most of their content is behind a login. Basically there are 5 pages open to Google and to anyone without that login, and they are not open to doing it differently at this time. Once in, there will be a lot of sharing with Facebook friends that will include invitations to join them in their causes. Love to hear all your recommendations. Kathy

How to Earn Links to Boring Pages on Your Site
We do great in earning links to our homepage, articles, linkbait, and resource pages but we get few links to our product pages which are honestly pretty boring. Do you have any advice for increasing links to these important "money" pages? (we are trying to add useful content to make them less boring and unremarkable)

Discrepancy in Site Metrics
I site I've been working on has been up since early January. The domain was not new, but no site or links existed prior. Link building finished 2 months ago. There are about 80 fairly high quality links mostly from unique domains, and the site has been doing well with search engines for some time. OSE lists only 24 of these domains (for all pages on the root domain). OSE stats hardly changed in the last update so here's my question: when will OSE data reflect the current reality?

What is best way to evaluate external links to my site?
What is the best way to evaluate external links coming in to my site? I have been working on trying to build links by commenting on blogs/forums and adding to directories, etc. I've run link reports through Open Site Explorer and Yahoo and they never seem to show the same links coming in. For example, i run link eport on Open Site Explorer and it will show links coming into my site that Yahoo doesn't show, and vice versa. I guess I'm trying to figure best way to monitor each week new links coming into my site to determine if my efforts are fruitful. Also, is there a certain period of time that should pass from time I put my link on another site (ie, a blog) until it will show up in OPen Site Explorer? Thanks! Oh, and I use the NoDoFollow Add-on for Firefox to only comment on those sites that do follow. Not sure if that's really effective or not.
